Is this correct or should the + signs be written out as 1.75 plus 3.00 plus 3.5 cm.

Amniotic fluid index (AFI) is kind of an estimate of the amount of amniotic fluid[1] and is an index for the fetal well-being. It is a part of the biophysical profile.[1]

AFI is the score (expressed in cm) given to the amount of amniotic fluid seen on ultrasonography of a pregnant uterus. To determine the AFI, doctors may use a four-quadrant technique,[2] when the deepest, unobstructed, vertical length of each pocket of fluid is measured in each quadrant and then added up to the others,[3] or the so-called "Single Deepest Pocket" technique.[4]
An AFI between 8-18 is considered normal.[5] Median AFI level is approximately 14 from week 20 to week 35,[6] when the amniotic fluid begins to reduce in preparation for birth.
An AFI < 5-6 is considered as Oligohydramnios[3] The exact number can vary by gestational age. The fifth percentile for gestational age is sometimes used as a cutoff value.[7]
An AFI > 20-24 is considered as Polyhydramnios

The AFI is the sum of 4 measurements in centimeters, so I would definitely use the + sign, but am concerned that you only have 3 measurements there.

Also, beware that Wikipedia is not a relaible source of information for MT.

Written By Every MT Who Really Had Something To Say.

There is a profession well hidden from the world, but involves your everyday care when you go to see your doctor. The skill is called transcription and a transcriptionist is the person trained to prepare a dictated voice recording from your medical provider into a legal document that goes into your medical record. When transcription became a skilled job back in the early 1960-1970s, the reports were typed on a manual typewriter, and then progressed onto the electric typewriter, and on to com ...

CSF Fluid Components And Meningitis

Someone's got encephalitis! Plan For Fluid Retention?
Dec 03, 2010

Hi everyone, thanks for looking at this. I have a discharge summary with a patient with volume overload, renal failure, and electrolyte imbalances, among others. This is an ARNP dictating, and in the plan, she dictates 1500 mL fluid retention. She specifically says retention, but that isn't something they try to do, right? I think it should be fluid restriction, but I don't know if I should change it or flag it. What do you think? Thanks! ...

hello. I'm posting this using Google speech recognition. Its a program on my android tablet. I never noticed it was here before. It isn't dragon. It isn't capital dragon. Well I guess I can't figure out how to make the capital letter show up, but I think if I found the instructions I probably could. If this tablet computer program works this well for me now, you can imagine how well front end speech recognition works for doctors and hospitals. Sure, there are some minor typos ...
