Offered job at Nuance, question about pay plan... - just curious

Posted: May 06, 2015

I was told that the position would be acute care and on the Escription platform.  Supposedly the majority of MTs on this account are making 10 cents a line.  I have since been doing a lot of research and see a lot of posts about how you are unable to make any money with Nuance.  I guess my question is do different platforms and accounts affect what your line compensation would be?  I need to make a decision and looking for some information.  Thanks....

Do NOT believe anything this company tells you. Did they show you the grid and tell you "the majority makes 10 cpl?" Escription is going to Epic (basically sentences -- each report -- the dictators can piece together themselves...maybe one sentence, maybe 3). You've read the posts correctly. Regardless of your platform, you're screwed.

First I've heard about this....sm - mt2

My primary account is on Escription. I've run out of work this week multiple times. Secondary account totally sucks. So what happens when it goes to Epic? No more work on that account?

While it is impossible to know if this true at this point--sm - anon

it is absolutely conceivable that it could happen in the near future. It could possibly explain the extreme slow-down in work I have seen over the past 2 weeks.

To the OP, many are likely 10/line some weeks but it can vary. You never really know what you will make week to week. I think I am making 10/line this week, but I am having to constantly check back in due to OOW. Many on my account asked the supervisor for secondary accounts. We were told that there are none, even the secondaries have no work. Even if I made 50/line, it would not mean anything if there is no work to do. Is this a temporary lull? Maybe, but if you need your paycheck, I would be wary.

Ask them to put in writing that it's likely you'll make 10 cpl sm - acuteMLS

because the majority of the people on that platform do. They won't. I wouldn't believe a thing they have to say about how much money you can make here.

Ask them -- ??? - AnonQC

Ask for a snail mail offer letter, with a pay rate, that you have to sign and return! Not an offer for what you'll "likely" make.

Run as fast as you can in another direction.

I'll share a little something with you and you can draw your own conclusions. On the particular accounts/platform I am on, we have to transcribe 300 lph to get 10 cpl. For the many years I have been on these particular accounts, the average lph for both teams has been in the low 140s. Nuance is well aware of averages and knows 300 lph on these accounts is not possible, yet put it out there as a dangling carrot. They tell us we just need to add more to our word expanders and do power hours; i.e., it is our own fault for being incompetent that we are not meeting their standard and there is such a great opportunity to make so much money--woohoo!! There really is a reason (many, many reasons) that Nuance has the reputation that it does. Good luck to you!

10 cents a line may be possible... - dhh

some weeks as long as all of your other metrics are in line...HOWEVER, keep in mind, this is not 10 cents per line for all of your lines. Your edited lines will be "multiplied by a factor of 0.5," so you are getting paid for half of the lines you edit. Typed lines are paid per line; however, if your accounts are like mine, you will be 95% to 100% editing.

Do you have other options? - None

[ In Reply To ..]
Is this your only option for employment? If you are out of work and at the end of unemployment compensation or almost broke, I'd say give it a shot, but do not stop looking for work even after you start at Nuance. I've been here for 4 years and there are constant changes, none of which are beneficial to the individual MLS. If you have any other option for employment, take that one first. Nuance will always be hiring. The turnover here is high and the pay is low. I've done this kind of work for 15 years and this is the least I've ever made. I'm just biding my time until my last daughter leaves the nest and then I'm getting out of this mess.

New pay compensation plan - all smiles

[ In Reply To ..]
You can make 10 cpl but remember this: Your lines are cut in half. So, when you do 6000 per week, that is only 3000 lines which equals $300 for that week. I made $300 a week in transcription back in 1980.

But, your actual pay is based on production (minimum 100 lph which is really 200 lph) and performance (below 99% gets you 8 cpl - which is really 4 cpl) and percent to internal quality assurance (above 10% gets you 7 cpl - which is really 3.5 cpl).

Then there is out of work or having 5-6 accounts in order to have enough work. Or flex and come back later, reschedule your entire life for the needs of the company.

Can you make 10 cpl? No.

Some of us still think a line a line but now a line is half a line. So what you are really making is 5.5 cpl provided your QA% is above 99% and your percent to QC is below 10%.

The pay cuts have been brutal. Many have filed bankruptcy, lost their homes, moved in with other family. I'm not too far from there. I make $1200 per month now, net. Before December 6, 2014, I made $1800 - $2000 per month.

Sad thing is, they are not yet done with their brutality.

I was offered a job yesterday with them, promised a lot of things. Told I could make up to 12.25 cents a line and offered a sign on bonus of 2K after 90 days. But what I don't get, if they don't have enough work for people, why are they hiring? Quite frankly I don't know whether to bother with this or not because the reviews are so bad for Nuance.

Don't Bother - sm

[ In Reply To ..]
That 12.25 is part of a pay grid. Did they tell you all about the pay grid and how your pay will vary from week to week? It is not possible to reach 12.25 because of the factors the MT must achieve. Those factors involve the number of reports sent to QA, quality score, and average lines per hour. There's this lovely thing called FIESA which is a nitpicky, evil thing created to justify paying the MTs less and is all based on "errors" (which could be something as minor as leaving out the word the or a and your pay will plummet). Realistically, you will NOT make more than 7 to 8 for straight typing. They cut your VR lines IN HALF so you will only get paid half of what you edit. What you've read here is true. Please consider ANY other options you might have.

Since those of us working for Nuance have not heard a damn thing, I'm wondering if anyone has tested and received an offer letter.  If you have, would you be willing to share the rate they offered?  I don't foresee them telling us anything before December, if then, since they said we'd know more about the compensation changes on Nov. 1 and nada!  ...

Hey Nuance !!! This Is My Take On This New Pay Plan...
Dec 31, 2014

Just went back and studied all my pay statements since this new "Patient Safety Pay Plan" was implemented.  Here is what I found: My pay was a bit MORE when I was off the grid QA-wise at 98.8%, less than 10% to QC (barely), and higher-than-normal for me lines per hour (I busted arse; hence the lower QA score)...but...pay was HIGHER this way than when I was more careful, got 100% QA post audit scores, less than 10% QC, and about average-for-me lines per hour.  So much for your "P ...

Sick Over New Nuance QC Pay Plan
May 07, 2015

Sick over the new compensation plan.  The number of lines I would have to do to make what I'm used to making is impossible if we are doing full review since they are paying QC'd lines at half of actual line count.  I can't do 100% voice to text and fill in blanks on 250-300 lines an hour all day every day. Heck, back when we just filled in blanks only and did not do full review, we were considered good and meeting goals if we QC'd 220 lph.  No way to do that an ...

Nuance QC Compensation Plan
May 16, 2015

At Nuance, the caste system THRIVES. The deception of this company is criminal. For the last year, the QCs were required to meet the company standard metrics of 150+ LPH, quality of 99% or higher, schedule adherence of 99%. If you failed to meet any portion of the metrics one week, you received a verbal warning; two weeks, you were moved to the Performance Action Plan. On 5/4/2015, we received our individual QA Weekly Scorecard; we also received the QC Compensation Plan on the same day. With no ...

Does anyone know what, if any, disciplinary action Nuance has taken due to variances between system hours and hands-on-keyboard hours? Webmedx/Nuance Pay Plan Unveiled Today.
Dec 13, 2011

It appears they have done away with our paid holidays.  We can work on holidays and have a bonus (if the facility is open and there is work).  If not, we have to take it out of our PTO or not get paid. My pay  by the new plan is cut from 9  typing and 5 voice recognition to 8 and 4 instead per line.  The incentive bonus requires 99% accuracy by QA audit, and 15% or less of reports going to QA, paid every 2 weeks.   ...

Nuance, Legitimate Bonus Plan??? Please Read.
Jan 03, 2012

My opinion,  having been in the industry for over 30 years and after reading a few posts on this subject below. For years a good deal of MTSO's including Webmedx had in place bonus or incentive plans based on production ONLY. Such a plan most likely helped Webmedx win "employer of the year" for years. Employees would go the extra mile even working through breaks to achieve higher line counts while at the same time the newer employees could look forward to gaining more experience and e ...

With New Plan STM Stated 35% Of Our Team Would C Increase With New Comp Plan
Dec 04, 2014

This means 65% will see decrease and/or paid minimum wage. They are touting this as the great new comp  (local Burger King is advertising job for $10/hour).  Anyone find out if the QC percentage is just for blanks or include all sent to QA including Audio issues, etc, and will EQA be included.  Also, trying to figure out our pay from week to week is going to be a pain.  I am going to see how this new comp plan works out, but since the conference call, I'm not feeling pos ...

Wow!! I Was Just Offered 2 Cpl To QA!!
Jan 20, 2010

Why dont they just start asking us to work for free!  At that rate I dont even think you make minimum wage!  This is obviously not even because of outsourcing.  I think what has happened is that a lot of work has gone overseas, but the remaining work that the transcription companies are getting is still paying a half-ways decent rate but they have taken a small cut to keep them.  Then they turn around and pay NOTHING to get it transcribed so the people running the companies a ...

Would Any Of You Take A Buyout From MQ If Offered?
Jun 20, 2010

In past months I have read on this board, with dismay, so many posts about long-time MQ MTs/MEs failing consecutive audits, and eventually being discharged. I think it is a major coincidence that so many employees are suddenly and consistently failing to meet the same quality standards they always met. I think it’s a flimsy contrivance to get rid of the more highly paid employees and replace them with cheaper newbies while avoiding an age discrimination actions because those higher-paid pe ...
