OOW, wait 15 minutes for response from supervisor?? - sickened

Posted: Jun 23, 2015

Is this legal?  Just how much do these people want for free?  With all the talk and threats of people turning them in to Department of Labor, I'd think they'd be a little more cautious about all the "FREE" time they expect us to spend.

15 min used to be the case - MTrauma

The last I heard, it was amended to: wait a minute to make sure more work doesn't come through, but if it doesn't then you punch out, then punch right back in as the OOW category, and finish off the 15 minutes in that way. Which also helps save your line count a little, as the clock isn't still ticking during your nonproductive time. Looks like this policy isn't being followed consistently company-wide?

15 minutes does count against lph - mt57

Nope the policy is not being followed that way on my team. Our instructions clearly state to do the 15 minutes but all hours that are not for conference, training or PTO are counted as production hours, even if the OOW comment is used - flexing or notify supervisor either one. My last check showed that and this was confirmed by my TSM. Why we have to show the OOW comment is beyond me.

Nope, it's still production - Fellow Nuancer

Yes, this is what we are supposed to do. Clock out, then clock right back in w/ the OOW comment for up to 15 minutes while you wait for a response.

HOWEVER, this is STILL counted as production time and factors into your C-LPH. I have confirmed this w/ my TSM, who confirmed this w/ her supervisor.

thanks for the correction - MTrauma

Guess I'd better get my facts straight!

There are obviously 2 different ways we are - told to do this, each with their issues

Obviously, Nuance communication is so great they can't even explain it to the TSMs so the TSMs can communicate it to us!

There appear to be a lot of people staying logged in for 15 minutes without working. The plus is that you are allowed to stay logged in for 15 minutes of not working. The minus is it is put into your line count as sitting there doing nothing so that screws your line count.

My TSM stresses to log out immediately we receive the OOW, wait 15 minutes WHILE LOGGED OUT OF WEBCLOCK, and THEN go back on and if still OOW immediately click the box that says OOW in webclock and that is the protocol. That way the punches include no "dead" time at all, just the time for logging in and out which is like 1 second each.

Getting your hours in means nothing if your line count is crap. Line counts are bad enough anyway lately since all the good dictators have apparently gone onto that EHR thing and we are left with the awfuls.

I think they should really clarify this so everyone's doing it the same way.

I'm glad my TSM tells us not to stay logged in because line count is important and even if they pay you for being logged in, the joke is on us as usual.

If indeed, Nuance finally willingly pays for something (only 15 minutes of dead time), but in the process they are forcing you to lower your own line count, which will in turn lower your PTO rate, etc., who is winning on this?

Hint: We never win with them. They always win.

Not true. They do NOT always win and they are - losing a lot lately.

Don't stop fighting their nonsense. You WILL win.

I would not hear from my TSM for more than a week after sending her an email about ANYTHING!!! I just lost my job a couple of days ago. I can't even be sad about it. I had the absolute worst speaking docs, and due to their bad dictations, I had to send reports to QC, I mean I thought we should not ASSUME what they were saying. 19 years as an MT and of course when I have decent dictators I can speed through reports!!! But OH MY GOSH!!! It was just a set up!!

New IC Contract Requiring Response To E-mails In 5 Minutes
May 29, 2010

Got a new kind of rudely worded in places contract from company I've been with a little bit.  I don't care about agreeing to 98% on quality audits, or agreeing to provide a certain number of minutes/lines of work a day and specifying which days, or agreeing to 24-hour TAT, but there is a section that we must respond to e-mails or any other form of communication within 5 minutes during active work hours, otherwise without an acceptable excuse (power/internet outage or emergency) af ...

Badgering Supervisor
Jul 26, 2011

Does anyone have any ideas of what to do about a supervisor who always says, "It is a privilege to work at home".  She threatened me that I might have to come in-house to work because I complained about my keyboard no longer being compatible with the new computers.  I have to work weekends in-house on a rotating schedule.  I also said it is difficult to get readjusted when you go in house because the work station is different.  I should have never complained because now she s ...
