New jobs - Anon

Posted: Nov 28, 2013

Why is it that all of you that get on here bragging about your "new" jobs and how great they are don't SAY who you're working for? I'm probably not the only one interested here. Give it up!

Why? - Up2Here

[ In Reply To ..]
Speaking only for myself, I do not know any of the posters on this board personally (that I am aware of). I have no idea whether they are good at their job or what their work ethic is. I have no way of knowing whether where I am would be a good fit for them or not. Having made specific personal referrals only to find that the person referred (who I thought would be a perfect fit) was more unhappy than they were in their prior situation due to a bad fit, I find it best not to do that.

Why? - Anon

[ In Reply To ..]
I just went back and read over my post. I didn't see where anything was mentioned about a referral to a company anyone might work for now. How would that work? Under "How did you hear about this job?" I guess we would put MTStars website by Up2Here? It's not up to anyone else to secure a job for anyone else on here. It would be nice once in a while for the ones bragging about a new better job to SAY where it is. Maybe someone else would like to try it. Maybe they have already worked there and didn't like it either. Who knows? Of course, I'm not normal. If I found a better position I would tell it. There's always more than 1 person needed in a lot of jobs. But then, there are people that have the mentality of "I got mine, you get yours."

The personal referral in my previous post was in reference to my experience providing specific information in a case where I actually had more information on the MT I was giving information to and in a situation where I thought it would be helpful, and it was not. I was not indicating that I felt I would be giving a personal referral to those on the board. I am sorry I was not more clear in that. I thought that you were asking why we didn't give specifics, and that is one of the reasons I don't.
Up2Here - Anon

No personal reference, specifics or pay scale. Just company name. Getting a position is up the applicant. Sometimes starting wages are contingent on ability.
You simply do not understand. Or maybe you - do, but dont care. SM
[ In Reply To ..]
I'm so sure you'd share your company if it could put your job at risk, wouldn't you? You wouldn't mind at all, would you, fighting for a job out of 100 applicants rather than only 3 people?

I think you do fully understand why people are not willing to share, but you're still looking for the easy way out, still asking for a company name to be handed to you without having to put the effort into finding names for yourself. Everyone else has to do their own research, find a good place by trial and error. Why should you be any different, or be made a special exception?

Nobody wants to lose their job. That is why no one wants to share the name of a company they found, have the company deluged with resumes, and possibly lose work or their own position due to extra people hired on. MTs can't control how many people their company hires.

As difficult is the economy is, nobody wants to fight any more competition than is already in the pool. That's only common sense.

People share that they have a good place simply to give hope to others that there still are a few good companies out there, to not give up looking.
Up2Here - Anon
[ In Reply To ..]
Ok, let's get one thing straight here. There IS no "easy way out" of anything. I ask that YOU "hand me" nothing. I'm not a special exception and I'm no different than anyone else. How would recommending a good company to work for put anyone in danger of losing a job they already have? Companies are always looking to sign up new people. And no, I don't understand the mentality of some that can get on a site and brag about what they have but then make excuses as to why they aren't willing to help. If I got a new job and didn't keep it long because of new hires I guess that would tell me what I already know. There's always someone better and faster than me. That doesn't mean I'm any less of a person. So, safeguard your position. But, if I find a great place to work and IF you find yourself looking again? I'll still share with you and anyone else. Have a great Thanksgiving!

Let me guess, you think socialzed healthcare is bad too? - CuriousMT
[ In Reply To ..]
Okay, you have really struck a nerve!

You seem like the kind of person that thinks that socialized healthcare, as in, we all pay into a pot for everyone's healthcare, is a bad idea... because you don't want to "pay" for anyone else's troubles. Maybe you're the kind of person who doesn't want to be "forced" to have health insurance, but let's see you pay for the hospital bills when you have a heart attack, have a catastrophic accident, etc...

That may not be you, but what is you is being selfish. None of the things you mentioned would happen if you truly work for a good company. A good company, despite getting inundated with thousands of resumes, is going to randomly hire employees it doesn't need, thereby putting YOU out of work! Sharing the name of a company or even the type of work you transitioned into can only help people. Chances are, unless you're working remotely, 99.9% aren't even close enough to where you are to work there!

Someone recently posted about a "clinical documentation improvement specialist." They didn't say where they were working or even what extra training was needed, but that was at least a hint, something to plant a seed so I could go do some more research. Even if she had posted the name of the company, etc., unless I have the same training she did, and unless they are actively looking to hire a new CDI person, AND unless I actually live near her, I have no chance of being ANY threat. And even if I did live near her, have the right training, and applied, they aren't suddenly going to say, "Oh! This person is more qualified that XXX. Let's fire them and hire this new person!"

A LOT of us got into this field out of necessity. I don't have kids that I need to watch at home, but I do have a need to work from home and have a flexible schedule. And I'm pretty sure that some of the people that have found their way out of this dwindling profession have found other opportunities that afford these same benefits.

So, plain and simple, you are selfish, self-centered, and out for nothing but yourself. I don't want to live in the same world as you. I want to like in a world where we help one another. Where we don't have to have "charity drives" to "save a sick child," because we're all going to be sick at some point and need help... and we all need a job to pay basic necessities like food and shelter.

We're not asking what street corner is the best place to pan for money. We're asking what companies are good employers, ones that don't treat their employees like rats in a maze and treat them like human beings... where they aren't hiring humans to train computers that will eventually replace them. We're just looking to survive!

So, I hope you had a good Thanksgiving, because we have no thanks to give you! And you certainly haven't given us anything!
Thank you CuriousMT...nm - Anon

LOL. Then you give her your company name - freely to save her the research. SM
[ In Reply To ..]
I've done the work, busted my butt researching for hours on end to find jobs and companies.

I'm not giving information out to someone who just demands "give it up!" in her original post. Not entitled? Not asking to be handed anything?

Yet, on the other hand, when presented with that very fact she is denying that she's asking for freebies: "I ask that YOU "hand me" nothing. I'm not a special exception and I'm no different than anyone else."

Sure seems like a sense of entitlement with several posts I've seen demanding to be given names of companies.

The OP seems perfectly capable of making many posts/responses on here demanding "give it up" and giving several excuses of why she should be freely given information, so I believe she's certainly capable of doing the same hours of research the rest of us have to do to find a job. It's that simple.

Socialized health care - me, against it? No. Not for those who simply cannot care for themselves. I'm all for that. What I'm not for, is those who don't want to help themselves and expect a handout.

Curious MT - Up2Here
[ In Reply To ..]
I did not make the post you responded to, and I am not going to address the socialized health care issue as there is another board for that, but I do feel the need to respond.

As for calling people selfish for not sharing, you do not know for certain what another's motive for not sharing is. It could be any number of reasons, included being prohibited from sharing the information by the company you work for. I already gave mine. In addition, to put it bluntly, I would be doing my company a disservice to put them in a position of having to shovel through what could be hundreds of applications to find a handful of applicants who meet their requirements to fill a limited number of positions. Not to mention, the disappointment of those who do not, for whatever reason, get a call back causing them to come here and post negative comments about the recommending poster and/or the recommended place. I am not saying you do it, but if you have read these boards for any length of time you may have seen it.

Also, along the lines of being "selfish," how many posts have you seen that pertain to people being upset about doing things they are not paid for? Sitting in front of your computer waiting for hours for jobs to trickle in only to be paid for a fraction of the time you spend babysitting the computer is, to say the least, frustrating and disheartening. Is it selfish to want to be paid for doing this? Having to correct errors and conflicts in ADT and other areas, having to look up prior reports for medications and other information because the doctor was in a hurry to get through the report and mangled the pronunciation on EVERY drug he dictated, sitting through meetings and webcasts, everyone wants to be paid for these things and feels slighted if they are not. Do you feel that they are being selfish? My point here is not that people should be paid to provide names of good companies. My point is that it is not selfish to protect the fruits of your labor. Why is my time so much less valuable than yours that you would expect me to just hand over my hard work to hundreds of people I do not know and demand that I do so?

Additionally, the hardworking, downtrodden, deserving MT is not the only one who would have access to the information posted on a public forum. How about the "cherry-picker" everyone talks about? Do you think I want him or her at my job? Do you blame me for not wanting to open myself up to that?

Lastly, (I know, thank god) there is not even the semblance of civility in the posts that demand to know where all the "bragging" ones are working, not even politeness. What is it exactly that should induce me or anyone else to "share?"

the only real reason I can think of - is

[ In Reply To ..]
the employer doesn't want to be swamped by resumes. For instance, I got a pretty decent job with a very small local MTSO. I know she would like more help. I told her she could always post on the MTStars board but that probably she would get 100s of applications (and she would too). She said no thanks, she'd rather just get personal referrals, so I did refer people I actually know. If I had posted the name on this forum, she'd have been really mad at me.

I suggest googling right now to find out who in your community is doing transcription for local clinics, and then calling those companies Monday morning to see if they are hiring.

real reason - Anon

[ In Reply To ..]
You are right. Small companies wouldn't want to be inundated with 100s of apps. I can understand that part. Locally, here there are less than a few of this type of work opportunities. I was self employed for the last 14 years and loved it. I picked my hours and worked for the same hospital and docs all that time. Our group was like a family that shared. I have a hard time "getting" that when I work for huge corporations there are people that do not wish us well sometimes. I guess I never will. Here it's like, do your work without questions and if you do question you are accused of being argumentative. But, like I say, I'm looking. Small town employment with a college is sometimes difficult. But, not a quitter and have no malice against ones that find their "dream job." Have a great Thanksgiving!

expand your search to your nearest - metropolitan area

You may have to drive to Billings or Bismarck one time to get software loaded on your computer, but after that it will be remote.

If that fails, you could check other medium to large cities. Just google "medical transcription Des Moines" or something. They may be able to download software to you remotely. There are just certain advantages to work for an MTSO servicing clinics in your general area.

With that attitude - I would not want you as a co-worker

[ In Reply To ..]
No one is "bragging," that's simply your perception of their statements and it's likely skewed.

And the entitled attitude of your post just red flags me that you would NOT be someone with whom I would care to work.

And, yes, that's MY perception about your attitude, since you so freely judge others' intentions with their posts.

Just Another Vent About Jobs, No Jobs, Requirement Of Jobs, Etc.
Aug 18, 2010

It is insulting to all of us with the way that MT pay has gone down the drain, it is frustrating and aggravating to look for a "decent" job these days, trying to work out which companies will treat you fairly, which ones lie about their platforms, work, etc., and not only do these companies not want to pay us what we are worth but now I see that MANY companies are requiring the MT to have or "be willing" to purchase hundreds of dollars worth of equipment.  If an employer can PROMISE IN ...

Will We All Be Out Of Jobs?

Once And For All - There Are No Jobs!
