It has been a long while since Nuance took - over my former MTSO

Posted: May 28, 2014

So I don't really remember, but I do NOT recall them offering a choice of NOT accepting to become an employee of Nuance, just all the details of what the merger or whatever it was would be.

I get that they would not want everyone to quit en masse, but was there no choice even offered, which is how I recall it, and is it legal for them to do that?

So has anyone else been allowed to make that choice, i.e., UE rather than being sold to the devil?

I would be interested to know the different ways in which we have all been duped, extorted, and compelled to become employees of Nuance, and if anyone escaped with any fair deal, if anyone's former company actually helped them make an informed choice, instead of trying to dupe them into thinking everything was going to be just the same.

No choice... - Tried of being stressed all the time

[ In Reply To ..]
It never even occurred to me that there were any choices...it was just, we are being bought out and everyone would go with them. I guess I was just happy to have a job still, but you made me think...looking back, we lost our jobs and UE may have been a better choice.

I feel as though there are hidden cameras in my house directly tied to Nuance management....Exciting news to me is NOT capacity organization whatever it is called....it is always DO THIS....DON'T DO THAT...SCORE NEAR PERFECT...NO EXPLANATIONS...There are so many things to remember and check and verify...etc...that have nothing to do with the actual work...I just want to work...Now I fear everyday that in October we will have a pay cut again just in time to not be able to heat my house for the winter. I am now on Medicaid and food stamps because I cannot afford to feed my family which puts more of a strain on this entire nation. Before the Nuance takeover, I was doing okay...could pay my bills and feed my kids.

In essence, Nuance is causing a strain on society by cutting our pay more than 50%. We all know the company income is the same--they are not charging facilities less for VR than straight typing, but are paying less for us to do the work.

So, no...my previous company did nothing except to say you will keep your job and your accounts...nothing about a drastic pay cut, etc.

This is exactly as I recall it too - can this possibly be legal?

I think we all agree on the terrible practices Nuance has as an employer, but I wonder if a legal challenge could be mounted based on the changeover process alone, i.e., the fact we were just sold into virtual slavery with no choices given, not even unemployment.

Someone mentioned re-employment insurance, or other MTSOs sometimes offer TAA retraining when offshoring is involved. I see there is the WARN Act, but that seems to only require notification if mass layoffs, not mass pay-cut-by-half takeovers.

I think at the very least that UI should have been a choice, and with my previous income (rather than the Nuance terrible income) I would have at least been able to buy some time and a chance to look for a better job. Now it seems all my time is spent waiting for work and making up time, too tired at the end of it to do anything.

So sorry to hear of your dire straits. You're right, there is really no excuse for the extremely poor compensation we receive now, except they want more and they want to pay us less, and most of us are trapped because we have to make some income to pay for our former unimpressive lifestyle we thought would not be hard to maintain, yet now Nuance seems nothing will stop them until they truly make us all minimum wage or less.

What about? - soweary

Class action law suit? There's one going on for Transcend before it became Nuance. However, I don't really think Nuance is involved in that case. We have been screwed royally by this company and they know that divided THEY STAND!

I could have predicted pay cuts but didn't dream it would be as drastic as it was. I lost my home, have no money in the bank for any emergency and I'm the only breadwinner. It can't get much worse. Not only this but this software program not production oriented at all -a real time waster dealing with so much minutia.

I wasn't given any choice at the take over that's for sure!

I wasn't given a choice either and wish - sm

I would have left when the merge occurred approximately 2-1/2 years ago. I stupidly thought it would be a good thing to work for a huge international company. Boy, was I wrong. Since then, a lot of my co-workers have left or are leaving. Nuance is the absolute worst company in the world. In addition, it's obvious that they hate America!

The choice was go with Nuance - or quit

[ In Reply To ..]
and if you quit you were SOL, no UE, no nothing... you lose both ways, and how!

It is just plain... - Diabolical

and there will be a fair judgment someday!

no choice - outsourced to the outsource co - 10 days before Christmas

xo

We were not offered a choice. Just - EXCITING NEWS

[ In Reply To ..]
You've been sold down the river!!!

There was never a mention of UE, so never believed it was an option.

There ya go... always on the edge of my seat - for more exciting news

[ In Reply To ..]
When you hear the word 'exciting' from Nuance, you can expect trouble ahead.

being laid off - and going on UI

[ In Reply To ..]
I've been outsourced twice now and both times it was done in the most unprofessional way. They don't want you to know that unemployment insurance benefits are an option because it increases their payment rate to SSI. Any time you are laid off, you are losing your job through no fault of your own, and in a hospital that means the department is closing too. Your job will no longer exist and that is about the only time you will qualify for UE without a headache. You will not be denied UE if your employer has laid you off. An IC is a different story.
Your former employer is told by the MTSO sales team their former MTs will be hired and make 8 CPL when it is really 4 CPL in a few months. They don't know you don't get paid for research, or demographic entries, or that the medical insurance is practically impossible to afford.

Re: So Long Nuance.

Re the post from the person who posted "So long Nuance." I could have written that post regarding time off without pay. When you get in your 60s (as I am) if you have an income you can get by on (my husband has a decent job and I am taking early SS), time with the people you love is the most precious thing you can have. In your 60s, you have probably already lost friends and relatives, and living life to the full becomes the most important thing in your life. At the same time, sometimes you ...

So Long Nuance-Hello Menards
Aug 18, 2014

I wanted to make sure the new job was going to work out before I told you all about it. After 43 years as a medical transcriptionist (will turn 65 next month), I did leave Nuance and started working at Menards as a cashier. For those who do not know (since Menards is only in 14 states so far), it is the third largest do-it-yourself store company, right behind Home Depot and Lowe's. Though there are advantages to the new job, for example, certainly I'll be making more money (though a ve ...

How Long Does It Take Nuance To Convert Platforms To Their Methods On Companies And Accounts Acquire
Sep 24, 2013

My company was acquired by Nuance a few months back and so far the only thing that has changed has been e-mail addresses.  Paystubs even still reflect our original company name.  Will they keep our proprietary platform or make us change to eScription soon?  Also, we're all ICs.  Does anyone know if we will be required to become Nuance employees at the first of the year?  ...

Wmx/nuance Paycut Meeting, listen To Tape Shut Up Or QUIT, Nuance Attitude?
Dec 12, 2011

According to a poster below which has apparently already attended one of the payroll meetings (as the poster posted) for nuance they have decided to keep the incentive part of all of our pay going with an exception that now you have to have over the industry standard of 98% to get a production based incentive. In addition (if this poster is accurate) they have again cut the overall pay from 8 and 4 to 3 3/4 AND 7 1/2. This is nothing but a bunch of crapploa...an MT who is now getting ...

Why Does It Take So Long?
Mar 08, 2011

Anyone out there notice this?  That it takes twice as long to do an op note anymore in ASR what with all the cutting, pasting, standards, going back to check whether or not to delete headings, blah, blah.  It used to be a cinch to simply bring in one of my standards and make the appropriate changes according to the audio, but now with ASR, it takes twice as long.  I feel like I'm running in place and going nowhere just to make ASR learn something.  It's such a waste ...

How Long Does It Take To Not Be Known As An MT
Jan 24, 2013

I have known where this 'profession' was headed for years; even in the late 1990s I knew. I earned the education that I need with both an associate degree and bachelor's degree (bachelor's degree from Big 10 university) and, still, many people view me as an MT, which we can all agree is not good. I have experience in my new line of work, and I have worked in that field in the past. How long is it really going to take before people do not view me with all the negative stereoty ...

After Long Deliberation
Feb 16, 2010

After over a year without an MT job I have decided to turn my degree into a Nursing assistant degree. Not to say the MT jobs aren't out there it is just tough for newer MT's to land them with all of the competition. Employers have the right and the demand to be very picky with everyone vying for the position. Good luck to everyone who stays and does well in the MT business but it is time for me to turn my dreams into reality and start making a little green. ...
