It seems that my TSM gets nastier and meaner every week!  Maybe they offered her a new bonus plan?

The TSM is so important in regards to work morale and working situation. We all know that a good TSM (and good accounts) will make a much happier MT. Why does an MTSO keep TSMs who are so bad at what they do (i.e., communicating with their MTs)???? It's just good business sense to hire a good one.

What they should do is an anonymous survey regarding all present TSMs, learn how they deal with others, and fire those who have the most complaints.

Yes. I think they know we are screwed either way. It's not like we can complain to anyone about them. So they get to run the show and just blame the higher ups for any decision they make. What a joke they have become.

I do not work for this company any longer, but my TSM was a source of the problem that I experienced with the company in general. She hardly ever got back to me on any question I had. We had daily conference calls when the account was brand new (mostly for the sake of the imports from the hospital account who were laid off) but it was near impossible to ask a question during the C-call due to the # of people asking questions and then the TSM hurrying the call along always saying she had another important call, blah, blah, blah. We are constantly told of her having "over 200 e-mails in her inbox every our" and trying to wade thru them. Well, what I say to that is tough luck, its your job! If I was getting paid by the hour to edit then I would gladly have put up with all the crap that I eventually found impossible to put up with at the 4 cpl rate they dished out. TSMs need to be held to a high standard just like we MTs and MSLs and QCs generally are, but unfortunately it does not appear to be the case.

Mine's quite nice, very competent, and tries to be helpful. - She is paid to implement management, tho.nm

I have not had a "bad" TSM as of yet (knock on wood). I have been working under my current TSM for probably about 2 years, and she is probably the MAIN reason that I haven't quit on the spot without even giving a notice. I have had so many days where I just want to throw my hands up in the air and say, "I GIVE UP! I CAN'T TAKE IT ANYMORE!", but I also have bills to pay, a disabled husband who can't work at all, 2 teenagers still at home, and haven't figured out quite yet how I'm going to manage working full time and going back to school full time (but I AM working on this last one feverishly!).

My TSM has been the ONE source of encouragement since Transcend was swallowed up by Nuance. I can't say a single negative thing about her, and I truly believe she is good at what she does because she too was an MT dealing with the same things we are dealing with. She may not transcribe/edit anymore, BUT she is able to put herself in our shoes, and I have noticed that she will go to bat for her team whenever possible in her position. That speaks volumes to me about her character overall.

I'm so glad to have a good TSM. Otherwise, this job would be so unbearable that I doubt I'd even be able to MAKE myself work every day. I'd probably have already just walked away from MT altogether and prayed to find ANYTHING that would meet the financial obligations that we can't make without my pay.

In the meantime, while I loathe having to work at this particular job every single time I have to sit in front of my computer, I'm actively trying to work out a plan to attend nursing classes at a local college AND work full time at MT until I can complete my schooling and obtain a job that doesn't have anything at all to do with MT or Nuance.

I'm not even close to retirement age (I'm 45), but I sincerely feel for those of you who are in your 60s, close to retiring, primary providers of your household, and the obstacles that you all face. I know that for some of you, health circumstances, your age, and many other things create obstacles that those of us who are younger may not be facing right now.

I wish all of us luck in whatever path we choose or have chosen to get out of this industry.

obviously not in the office. I have to compete with her attention and annoys me to no end. This is during normal business hours, not some odd time. The last time I finally gave up and just hung up. She probably could have cared less because I didn't even get a call back to see why we were "disconnected."

I think they must. I used to work for Transcend, which was taken over by Nuance. My boss was horrible. She had her little pets who quickly were promoted up the ladder, but anyone else she didn't trust, we didn't even get a gift card for Christmas. She ended up firing me after one of her pet QA people said I didn't meet the standards after 3 years of working for them. I never received any documentation of what that QA person found, though. Give a few idiots some power and watch out! I don't think there is anyone monitoring the way employees are being treated at these places.

As more and more MTs lose their jobs to offshoring, I don't think the TSMs are realizing that they are becoming expendable quickly too - No US MTs mean no US supervisors. The hospitals and clinics will have to talk to India to complain about their reports, dial 1 for English (sort of) and then hold for the next available representative for the next 20 minutes. told to clock in at beginning when scheduled.  If no work, clock out.  Then it states to check back EVERY 30 minutes.  If there is work clock in and begin working.  When there are no more jobs clock out.  Keep doing this until end of shift.  Isn't this requiring us to be available for 8 hours but unpaid (most likely)?  Doesn't this even go against MModal's current policy on no work available?   ...
