did MQ drop the night shift differential? - mt

Posted: Apr 12, 2010

I start work at 0500 and always have had at least 1 hour of night shift differential for each day I worked.  It amounts to pretty much next to nothing money wise, but I would still like to know without having to wait on an answer from CCM.  tia

I sill had it on this last pay check NM - 30 smackers

Last check I got evening or night hours was 1/11 - sm - Confuzzeled

That was also the last time I got any PTO. I'm PT and haven't been getting in all my hours due to maintenance. I don't know if that has anything to do with it or not, I do get my lines. I work 8-2 so even if it's a nickel I should be getting those differentials.

you have to do 24 hours every week to get PTO - no excuses

[ In Reply To ..]
Even if you are 15 minutes short, they will not pay it out.

Always make sure you have your 24 hours in.

I Will Ask My CCM - MT Idiot

I need to know for sure. I work all my hours so I can get the night-shift differential.

I looked over my last pay statement and was a little confused myself.

I need to look at mine too. sm - Bummed MT

I will look at mine today, I hate evening shift, my kids miss me, so at least that little bit might make a little difference. But my check has been getting smaller and smaller for months. I will definitely look today. Let us know what your CM says.

Please let us know what you hear - sm - Confuzzeled

I know that I have to work 24 hours hours per week to get PTO, I was just pointing out that January was the last time I was allowed to work all my hours due to constant maintenance on the oh-so-important Saturday night/Sunday morning shift. You can't make it up when there is no work.

Was just curious about the shift differential not being paid.

I have received shift differential on all my last - paychecks. NM

I just got off the phone with payroll. Since I was paid a portion of my hours at the MINIMUM WAGE rate, my night shift differential was somehow factored into that and not itemized on the paycheck like it was in the past.

None of this makes sense to me, but that is what she said. I guess the fact that I typed 90% ASR this pay period made all the difference:(

Can't trust anything here anymore.

thats easy then, - doublecheck

Dont know what your minimum wage is in your state but check that amount and make sure that what you were paid is higher or get back on the phone and make them explain it again.

To me, it seems like if you are paid minimum, they are not adding in the night shift differential, and if that is the case, I would contact your labor board and notify them that their calculations are not matching up and they are not paying you appropriately.

in my state is 7.25. I multiplied that by the total number of hours I worked, and I got exactly what the gross pay listed. No night shift differential.

Somehow there must be a loophole regarding this, and of course, MQ has it all figured out, hence, the "explanation" of my night shift differential on those few hours being "factored in" somehow.

I almost don't have the will to fight them anymore. After taxes, this shift differential pay would amount to less than $5.

Thanks for the help.
It may only be 5 bucks - but thats your 5 bucks!
[ In Reply To ..]
That is a gallon of milk, dozen eggs and loaf of bread.

If they do that every pay period, thats 120 bucks a year.

NO WAY! I would absolutely call payroll again and make them explain it in GREAT DETAIL!

Please, do this for yourself!
5 bucks - yes you are right

I looked into it further and did the math based on straight rate and ASR rate. The difference between that and the gross pay amount was the night shift diff. amount. I was actually paid for the night shift hours after all even though it didn't look like it on the pay check. Hope I didn't cause anyone else to have palpitations over this today. My brain is so fried lately.

I think I may have spoken too soon when I said they basically got rid of it.  Math is definitely not my thing, but after studying it further, isn't it basically the same?  It says, An additional $0.0075 per line or $0.09 per report for work transcribed between the hours of:  (and then it gives the different hours for each time zone)............. How Does Shift Differential Work?
Dec 26, 2012

Kinda confused about the shift differential and how it works.  I worked about 2.5 hours before the 6:00 a.m cutoff.  I did 1008 lines today in that amount of time.  Do I take the 1008 and multiply it by my shift differential amount and then subtract that 1008 from the total lines for the day, or is the shift differential "extra" in our pay?  Really don't have a clue how to figure this and I work these hours everyday.  Would like to know before the first paychec ...
