To other new MQ employees: I'd like to know what - me

Posted: Apr 13, 2011

sort of things you're getting QA'd for, to compare notes.  For instance, I'm new to VS, and I tend to leave in double words.  I think what's happening is that I hear it, so my mind just blocks out the extra one and I don't see it.  I spend a lot of energy trying to out-guess the QA, but no matter what I put in certain instances, I'm marked off.  If I put "The patient," then she fills in the name.  If I put the name, then she puts "The patient," etc.  I even wonder if they're trying to get me to quit, I just don't know.   I'd love to know how your experience as a new MedQuist employee is going.

Not New, But... - MT

I'm not new, but it's our responsibility to catch double words in the report. It's not easy, but it's our job. Unfortunately, it's come down to this.

As to patient name, do according to the client profile. They're usually pretty clear on patient name in report or not. If QA has made a mistake, then just breeze over it if you know you are correct. If you're not sure you are correct or not, review all MQ resources you have, and if you're still not clear, write to who you are instructed to ask questions of.

How new are you, ASR/transcriptionist? Maybe you need to talk to your CCM or QC specialist. All QAs are different. I would not ask a lot of these people on this board because a lot of them are very unhappy with MQ. However, you need to listen very carefully to your ASR. You are NEVER supposed to put the patient's name in the body of the report unless your work specifics say you can and if you are having a problem with that QA, call your CCM with the QA name and explain to her what is happening. With the double words, it should show up when you are spell checking at the end. Hang in there. It will get easier.

Double words should be easy to catch because - elle

spell check will catch them, so I am not sure why there is a problem unless you have found a way to circumvent the spell check that automatically starts before the document uploads.

As far as the patient name, if the doctor did not dictate, do not put it in, and if QA changed it to the patient's name, call them out on it - email the QA. If they have gone against the client profile regarding patient names, call them out on it big time - email QA.

As far as changing patient to the patient and the patient to patient, just let it slide. Curse a little and let it fall of your back like water on a duck.

Spell checker not only does not catch them, it actually puts them in sometimes. At least mine does. I've been suspecting this for quite some time, and after getting dinged so much, decided to do my own analysis and very carefully proof after the spell checker did its thing. A couple of days ago it really went crazy and changed the word brought to brou g 0ht and spell checker did not catch it. I have nightmares thinking about the errors that are possibly going through because I have no control over that thing running before I finally upload....and yes, I put in a ticket about it.

If anyone else is noticing similar things, I urge you to bring it to the attention of MQ corporate because there is definitely something strange going on with that program.

really odd - coach47

That's is really an odd thing, I wonder if your spellchecker is somehow corrupt, I've never seen something like this happening when I work or QA. I would like to point out, however, that when we are listening to SR and "the" is not dictated, edit it out. We type verbatim for most accounts and also follow dr's style. When the dr doesn't dictate "the" and there is no gramatical reason to include it, edit it out. And yeah, I'm one of those QA people who does nit pick on that. LOL :)

Thanks for telling us you think nitpicking us to death is worthy of "lol." Let me tell you, none of us is laughing and we have a lot more to worry about than whether or not we need to include the word "the" in a sentence. Having QA working against us only adds to the frustration of working for this company.
I am shocked that you get paid enough to stop and - take out the word THE

OMG How Funny - Read Glassdoor Opinion Of Employees, US Versus Indian Employees!
Aug 05, 2013

I was just curious about what employees thought of Nuance on Glassdoor.  You read several US employee opinions and they reflect the morale listed on MTStars.  Scroll further down and read the opinions of the transcriptionists from India.  What a difference.  They are highly satisfied with their jobs and most have been working with Nuance for 6 to 7 years.  The US transcriptionists are very sad!!  What a difference..... ...

Do You MQ Employees Sometimes Think
Aug 17, 2011

Someone jumps on this board, fires it all up by saying to use F11 for every ASR job, and then calls their CCM to say "read the MTstars board" and then they go check who is doing it and fires them, all the while the pot-stirrer looks all cutsie in the CCMs eyes and more work opens up for the pot-stirrer?Maybe it is my wild imagination, but it seems like all that "stop typing for a day" and if that does not work, then "stop typing for 2 days," and "use F11 for all ASR jobs," all feels so not ...

Production Employees (not IC's): How Much
Jul 13, 2010

The compensation structure and "minimum" hourly or daily production expectations often encourage people in our industry to work unreported hours in order to meet minimums.  You have a day when you get a rash of the account's most trying dictators, for instance, and at the end of 8 hours you realize that you haven't met minimums...so you work another hour, while reporting only the 8 hours. Transcription companies are, of course, aware of this dirty little secret and do nothing abo ...

Employees Misclassified As ICs
