NEW MQ EMPLOYEES AND QA SUBMISSIONS - Here is what happened to me

Posted: Jul 06, 2011

I was just looking back at some old posts relating to how MTs are penalized at MQ for sending notes to QA and I have to say, this really bothers me.  If you are trying to do the right thing, why is your pay reduced?  Here's my story:  I was thrilled to get a call from MQ asking me to interview, even more thrilled when I got the job.  I had read all the negative posts here but thought I would give them a chance because the only way to know for sure is to try it out yourself.  I was under the impression that most of my work would be straight typing with some VR.  I was very disappointed when I saw that the vast majority of my work was VR at a substantially lower line rate than they had offered me for typing.  I knew the VR line rate would be lower, but I didn't realize the majority of my work would be VR, hence a chronically lower line rate.  When I got my first paycheck, I was shocked and thought there was a mistake.  I knew, as a new employee, that all my work would have to go to QA for a period of time, but I never realized that I would be paid 3 cents per line less for ALL the work I did during that period of time.  I thought this was unfair since I was not choosing to send ALL of my work to QA, nor was it necessary.  I have 21 years of experience and know what I am doing.  That is not to say that I did not have questions -- I did -- but to be paid 3 cents per line less for every single note I typed for two or three months was outrageous.  Needless to say, I left the company very shortly after I started.  As MTs, we should not be penalized for utilizing QA.  One of the main purposes of the MT and QA is to send the best possible product to the client.  Why are we docked for trying to do that?   And why are new employees penalized before they are even given a chance to show what they can do?

Thank You! - tired one

That is outrageous and no one ever believes how bad it is here...

MQ 3 cents less while training - MR

[ In Reply To ..]
Wow. One of the reasons I didn't accept the MQ job last month was because of the low VR, even though with Tier III they offered me the highest cpl for straight typing. Unfortunately, I know VR is the future of MT so I chose a job that paid higher for VR even though the straight was less. I can't believe they penalized you for training! And for 2-3 months with 21 years of experience. I was stressed out having every document QA'd at my new job in the training period and that was for only 2 weeks. How does MQ keep new employees if that is the MO?

MQ 3 cents less while training - Here is what happened to me

I should clarify that I was a part-time hire, so it took me longer to train. If I remember correctly, your training consists of a number of hours, and my hours stretched out over two to three months. It wasn't two to three months as a full-time employee. I am just being fair and honest, though I still think they were unreasonable to penalize someone who was training.

Hate to say (not really) bottom line is $$$$$. If they have to pay 2 people to do a report, they ma - mqmt

in the long run they would make MORE money, not less. They might even attract better clients, too.

Dumb, and dumber!

Even so. Can you imagine if their ads said to be aware that new hires will be docked 3 cents a line on production while training?

QA - so unfair! - me

[ In Reply To ..]
I've been with MQ a few months now and am doing much better overall, but recently was penalized for sending work to QA. I get so furious looking at my pay stub, I just don't anymore. One of my accounts has consistently fuzzy dictations with mumbling ESL doctors, and it's not humanly possible to understand what they're saying. Even the QA person leaves many blanks - yet they dock my pay for that? What else am I supposed to do? Just send to the hospital full of holes? It's damned if you do and damned if you don't. Another thing: Back when I started out, it was common to get scratchy tapes, but with technology switching to digital, I thought that problem would be a part of the past. Instead, I'm being flooded with bad recordings you can barely discern. What's up?

QA so unfair - Here is what happened to me

I agree, and I don't know what the answer for us is, but I sure wish there were a way we could all band together to fight back. I am incredulous that a large national company like MQ punishes their MTs for trying to do their job properly. And as for VR, we are training a piece of software that is ultimately going to take our jobs away, and we are being paid peanuts to do it. I no longer work for MQ and after my experience, I have no desire to work for a large national again. We are not "medical language specialists" to these big companies. We are a means to an end and we are reaping none of the rewards. I decided that I would rather be on my own, working my tail off, than have a "secure" spot with a company that really doesn't treat its employees all that well. I know many people do it for the benefits and multiple other reasons, and I do not fault them for that. We all need to work and we all do what we have to do. I am lucky in that I found some doctors who hired me to do their transcription, but on the other hand, I have no benefits, and that is a problem too. I just know that there are lots of talented people in this industry who have worked, and still work very, very hard, and I am wish we could organize together to make the changes that we know are needed.

QA Submissions
May 20, 2010

I need clarification please.  What is a QA submission?  Is that the same as leaving a "qa blank" in the report?  The reason I ask is that we were told that a certain percentage of QA submissions would result in a paycut, correct?  I NEVER submit to QA, yet my monthly detail would never reflect that.  my detail shows NUMEROUS submissions, putting me in the paycut range! I have yet to hear a response from CCM.  (surprise...)  If anyone can enlighten me, I' ...

ACKNOWLEDGE RESUME SUBMISSIONS
Oct 26, 2010

Does anyone ever get an acknowldegment when they send a resume for a job posting?  I have yet to receive one.  I am talking about the companies, of course, who do not ask me to test or have no interest in me as a potential employee.  The ones who do, contact me and I test and interview and blah blah blah.  I have always thought it was common business practice and just plain courteous to send a letter, heck, make it a form letter, I don't care saying, sorry we are not int ...

OMG How Funny - Read Glassdoor Opinion Of Employees, US Versus Indian Employees!
Aug 05, 2013

I was just curious about what employees thought of Nuance on Glassdoor.  You read several US employee opinions and they reflect the morale listed on MTStars.  Scroll further down and read the opinions of the transcriptionists from India.  What a difference.  They are highly satisfied with their jobs and most have been working with Nuance for 6 to 7 years.  The US transcriptionists are very sad!!  What a difference..... ...

sort of things you're getting QA'd for, to compare notes.  For instance, I'm new to VS, and I tend to leave in double words.  I think what's happening is that I hear it, so my mind just blocks out the extra one and I don't see it.  I spend a lot of energy trying to out-guess the QA, but no matter what I put in certain instances, I'm marked off.  If I put "The patient," then she fills in the name.  If I put the name, then she puts "The patien ...

Do You MQ Employees Sometimes Think
Aug 17, 2011

Someone jumps on this board, fires it all up by saying to use F11 for every ASR job, and then calls their CCM to say "read the MTstars board" and then they go check who is doing it and fires them, all the while the pot-stirrer looks all cutsie in the CCMs eyes and more work opens up for the pot-stirrer?Maybe it is my wild imagination, but it seems like all that "stop typing for a day" and if that does not work, then "stop typing for 2 days," and "use F11 for all ASR jobs," all feels so not ...

Production Employees (not IC's): How Much
Jul 13, 2010

The compensation structure and "minimum" hourly or daily production expectations often encourage people in our industry to work unreported hours in order to meet minimums.  You have a day when you get a rash of the account's most trying dictators, for instance, and at the end of 8 hours you realize that you haven't met minimums...so you work another hour, while reporting only the 8 hours. Transcription companies are, of course, aware of this dirty little secret and do nothing abo ...

Employees Misclassified As ICs
