I was just looking back at some old posts relating to how MTs are penalized at MQ for sending notes to QA and I have to say, this really bothers me. If you are trying to do the right thing, why is your pay reduced? Here's my story: I was thrilled to get a call from MQ asking me to interview, even more thrilled when I got the job. I had read all the negative posts here but thought I would give them a chance because the only way to know for sure is to try it out yourself. I was under the impression that most of my work would be straight typing with some VR. I was very disappointed when I saw that the vast majority of my work was VR at a substantially lower line rate than they had offered me for typing. I knew the VR line rate would be lower, but I didn't realize the majority of my work would be VR, hence a chronically lower line rate. When I got my first paycheck, I was shocked and thought there was a mistake. I knew, as a new employee, that all my work would have to go to QA for a period of time, but I never realized that I would be paid 3 cents per line less for ALL the work I did during that period of time. I thought this was unfair since I was not choosing to send ALL of my work to QA, nor was it necessary. I have 21 years of experience and know what I am doing. That is not to say that I did not have questions -- I did -- but to be paid 3 cents per line less for every single note I typed for two or three months was outrageous. Needless to say, I left the company very shortly after I started. As MTs, we should not be penalized for utilizing QA. One of the main purposes of the MT and QA is to send the best possible product to the client. Why are we docked for trying to do that? And why are new employees penalized before they are even given a chance to show what they can do?
