calling all MQ employees! - Not a newbie

Have phone interview next week.  Looking for info on pay scale, weekend/holiday/schedule expectations, and vacation time info.  Don't want to waste my time or theirs.  Please only reply if you are a current employee with knowledge of current policies.  I looked on their website but can't find this info....  thanks a bunch!

I was told that current pay for all new hires was 4 cpl for editing and 8 for transcription. Please remember that you may start out typing, but you will be doing approx. 90% editing within 6 months.

I believe you create your own schedule and they see where they can fit you. I also believe you have to work 1 weekend day, but not certain.

Holidays are required if it is your regular scheduled day. You can take PTO time for a holiday if approved, but they do say "no" to requests. I was told had to work either x-mas or thanksgiving.

You accummulate PTO based on hours worked, however, I do not have the formula for that and it is different for full time or part time. Part time is minimum 24 hours.

Really? You want to work for MQ after all that you have read here! Good luck. Whatever pay you start out with get used to it, raises are very rare. I have been out of work several times in the past few weeks, so if you can afford that,then go for it.

have gone to VR, I am now making minimum wage. I used to make 3.5x that. They are putting accounts onto VR as fast as they can and also sending the work overseas as fast as they can.

BTW, you only get 60% of your cpl for VR. - nm

I have worked at MedQuist for a total of almost 11 years. I am at the same pay I was hired at 11 years ago. Have asked for raises many times, but always some excuse not to give one. The only other information I would add that is missing from posts below is that you must work 39 hours a pay period to qualify for health insurance. Also, starting recently you will be lucky if you get the 8 cents mentioned below...more probably will start at 7 or thereabouts with 4 cents for all ASR lines. Yesterday for instance, I only typed 3 actual jobs and everything else was ASR....virtually taking what used to be a $50,000 a year job and cutting it by more than half. Good luck to you....maybe you will figure out how to be more efficient with ASR than I have.

I know I used to be one of the $50k people. Now making half that and getting E-mails about "people" producing 400-500 lph on ASR. If I put out a decent report, I can only do pretty much the required 150 lph. I have learned every shortcut they offer and a few of my own. Just can't get it to go any faster (or get any smarter).

With the ASR get used to fixing things like patients being 999 years old, having BP's in the 720/630 range, having doctors tell patient's to get more sex instead of get more exercise and typing Doctors named Urine or something like that.

still expect you to work a weekend day. I've been here 10 years and make just over half of what I used to due to:

1. Pay cuts
2. No more production bonuses
3. No more weekend shift diff
4. No stable accounts (constantly moved to new ones, AKA cesspool)
5. ASR at a reduced pay but requires a LOT of editing, often taking longer than to straight type it but getting paid 60% less.

I've been trying to remember what the weekend differential was. I've been with them about 9-1/2 years. Do you remember what it was, when it was in effect, and when it ended.

I wasn't at all happy about how they messed with the evening and shift differentials either as those are 95% of my hours.

However, let me see if I can remember correctly (anyone correct me if I'm wrong).

I've been here about as long as you. I think in the beginning they paid a flat amount, which I think was 150 per month. Then I think they switched to a different way of paying, I think maybe an extra amount like they did for evening/graveyard shift, not sure. But they did away with that just a few weeks ago.

Think I need to do some checking into this. I'm assuming that weekend includes Friday, Saturday, and Sunday - or is it just Saturday and Sunday? Anyway, I work Friday evening and a few hours on Saturday in the daytime. To my knowledge, I have no indication on my pay stubs ever showing a "weekend" differential, and you're saying that this just ended a few weeks ago?

If there is any clarification you can give me as far as what shows on your pay stubs, please let me know.

Just wondering if it's okay/possible to put my "Call" macros back towards the end of General_Macro? And if so, where?  I tried moving them to just before End Sub and also before Page 1:Selection..., but those locations didn't work.  I'm getting an occasional errant "g" or "L" (apparently related to the GramLiter macro) at the very beginning of my VR text when I run it now, which I didn't have at all before when the "called' macros were at the end.  Was part of the fix ...

If anything..they are simply a  Sales Convention for MTSOs and only have their interest at heart.  There are never topics that relate to working as an MT or being properly represented.  Instead we get the never ending changing BOS, or the CMT certification which AGAIN has changed...and btw..took a look a "sample" test and it has NOTHING to do with being an MT!  It was more for a clinician.  We are language specialists..not clinicians.  I have been an MT for over 20 ...

Someone jumps on this board, fires it all up by saying to use F11 for every ASR job, and then calls their CCM to say "read the MTstars board" and then they go check who is doing it and fires them, all the while the pot-stirrer looks all cutsie in the CCMs eyes and more work opens up for the pot-stirrer?Maybe it is my wild imagination, but it seems like all that "stop typing for a day" and if that does not work, then "stop typing for 2 days," and "use F11 for all ASR jobs," all feels so not ...

As I am getting no work during the day shift anymore, I have the chance to go third shift Sun-Thursday (11-7), either that or find a new job (yeh right), or do ASR (done it at this company, no thanks to returning there).  I have never worked that one before.  How/when do you sleep?  Any other pros/cons about this shift?  Thaniks your your advice.    ...
