Ok, which one of you trained the speech rec to put - "bowel numbers" instead of Alzheimers?

Posted: Dec 12, 2012

What on earth???

and how did it suddenly forget - how to spell catheterization?

[ In Reply To ..]
It gets the word catheter, followed by any word that ends in tion.

YEA!!!! it had it at one time, then all of the sudden...not??? - SOSDD

[ In Reply To ..]
and suddenly started putting a comma after -year-old, every flipping time!!

It quit putting a blank when dictator says paragraph.

still not getting answers on when these might get addressed.

BUT, it did correct the times 2 back to x2 pretty quickly - SOSDD

[ In Reply To ..]
guess our gripes don't dip into their pockets deep enough like 6 (times) characters vs x (1)

I had an end of report where the doc didnt hang up - sm

[ In Reply To ..]
and there was background talking but in places where there was just breathing adn rustling of pages..ASR printed out basically things that would have been in a report..like papers rustling translated into the baby was handed off..and the heading history of present illness...Very scarey I actually thought the doc was going to dictate another report..

speech wreck - recentlyoutsourced

[ In Reply To ..]
I honestly think that when India screws it up so badly, that's when we get the VR back to us so we have to correct it AGAIN!! Total BS. Mine is not catching simple words!

There is no doubt about the India connection - sm

[ In Reply To ..]
I think we are correcting ASR but I also think we are correcting the Indians. Too many inconsistencies, like sometimes there is formatting done that no way in heck ASR could do it with only minor problems (India),,then you get another report from the same dictator that is a total train wreck (ASR alone). Still cheaper for us to correct the indians under the guise of ASR

Which ones of you believe you are actually the ones training - the program? sm

[ In Reply To ..]
Unless they are putting each physician's document back through the speech wreck with the corrections, it will continue to type what it thinks it hears. I actually do speech recognition and there are days if I do not speak the way it wants me to, it actually acts as though it has never heard my voice before. I wouldn't blame the lack of VR intelligence on any Transcriptionist. It's a computer program, too many variables involved to just assume that one single transcriptinist mucked up the whole program for everybody else. Come on Transcriptionists, get a clue. You won't buy the garbage about getting more lines done with VR, but you will buy the garbage that you are training it? The person speaking has to train it and if the voice isn't put back through with corrections, then it isn't being trained. I seriously doubt that the MTSOs are going to take the time to do that (emphasis on TIME)

In the beginning,,,waaaayyy back - sm

[ In Reply To ..]
I did train the original speech rec..1999 ish? not sure..it worked great and then to the day, you could assume they sent it overseas cause all the sudden I was getting garbage back, where it had been very good before...So yes they are putting it through a filter but too many people are mixed in the training of it..

Agree - old and burned out

[ In Reply To ..]
Still worked in the office when the ASR was first introduced and it did "learn."
Now it produces the same crap over and over again and even if you ask to have something fixed (Lv ids instead of LVIDS)no one will do it. Now I just leave it. I figure fixing something 100 times is enough.

oh we're just kidding - we know

[ In Reply To ..]
we know we can correct something 1000 times and VR still won't get it.

hahaha. What about Ativan? I get add a van or - at a band, or add a can, but

[ In Reply To ..]
NEVER... ATIVAN. THE CORRECT WAY! HAHAHA

This Is A Well-trained Speech Engine
Jul 08, 2011

The below listed paragraph is echo-dictation. This means that I am listening to the dictator and repeating what is said into a microphone.  I have not read this paragraph, so what you about to read has not been edited by me (correct errors). --- If you are doing VR and the text you are reviewing doesn't look like this in terms of accuracy, then the problem lies with the facility who is using speech recognition. I just want to (hopefully) put to rest the negative comments about speech r ...

The Well-trained Speech Engine
Jun 10, 2014

This is copied/pasted from a document I'm to be working on. I have not yet proofed anything. What you are about to read is what appears on the screen. It's a fast dictator. The service is v-e-r-y emphatic about keeping the speech engine constantly updated with corrected documents. *THIS* is what I'm talking about.  The patient is a very pleasant 73-year-old gentleman who returns today for an evaluation.  He was last seen by.  His pain is though a very low back pain ...

Hey there wise, venerable coding veterans! I'm looking for an opinion on the coding course linked below before I contact the school with any specific questions. Do you think this will teach enough for the CCS or just the CCA?  How about the CPC? Should I look further into this course/school or scratch it off my list? Has Anybody Been Trained To Do Medical Coding And Do They Like It?
Nov 10, 2010

Has anybody been trained to do medical coding and do they like it?  I am trying to figure out where to go next since transciption no longer pays the bills and I am sick of sitting down for 12 hours a day.  I am ready to work away from home.  I just do not want to invest time and money in classes where I cannot get a job or where the pay is worse that what we make now.  ...

Just Heard EPIC Is Now Being Trained At My Main Account
Aug 16, 2010

Does not surprise me.. the Canned reports featured in EPIC I am sure will take over to completely do away transcriptionists.  Clearly healthcare is okay with homogenous reports that really are not particular to the patient, just trying to stay within the slimmest margin of the law.  It's like legal liability insurance...the bare minimum required. ...

You Know, MQs Speech Wreck Is Bad Enough
Nov 01, 2010

we have dictators who compose sentences such as this: "A xx-year-old female accompanied by daughter in secondary to within the last week has run out of her amlodipine, Prozac and clonidine anywhere from 3-5 days ago each of these." I kid you not, that is what this doctor said.  American doc, speaking clear English.  Now tell me, what am I supposed to do with that?  It is a verbatim account, but the last time I let some gobbly gook like that go through I got chewed out for it (!) ...

Speech Impediments
Sep 14, 2011

This is a first for me.  The doc is NOT ESL.  But, it took me quite a while to figure out what she was saying when I heard, "The patient lickscrapitus in his knee."  Later on, I realized that she was has difficulty with pronouncing some A's and E's correctly.  So, the "lickscrapitus" was "lacks crepitus", which is also a rather odd way of making the statement, IMHO. Why don't the facilities/MTSOs notify the MTs when there is a doc on the account with certain s ...

All Work Going To Speech

I am hearing from some that by 2014 all medical transcription, maybe just the at home work is required by law to go to speech recognition?  Has anyone else heard this?  I figured it is just up to the individual companies to decide whether they choose for the work to be done straight or by speech recognition.  If this is so, all of us at home workers won't have a choice and if we want to do medical work we will be forced into speech.  ...
