Now different line requirements for SR reports vs transcription - BH

Posted: May 27, 2010

Spheris minimum line count was 127.5 lines per hour, and after taken over by Medquist, they had a meeting. They said this was nothing to do with Medquist's higher line requirement, but they said if we do only SR work, then we have to do 192 lines per hour. Straight transcription is still 127.5 lines an hour. They do pay less for SR lines than transcription, but still as long as we got our line counts in during our shift, they were happy.

How do we keep straight our line count for SR and TR?  Well, we count our line totals for the day and subtract the lines for transcription reports.  Or you can do it by the hour.

I feel bad about this new development.  I know I am not being shorted on my pay for these SR reports, but it's just that SR reports aren't all that easy.  When an ESL dictates, what appears on screen is not what they say.  In one report, the word "baby" appeared on the screen, but there was nothing about a baby in the report.

Do you realize - Spherite

that at 127.5 lph you are only making 6.37 per hour? That is less than minimum wage in most states. Even at 192 lph, which is pretty darned hard to achieve, that is still only 9.60 per hour. Unless for some reason you are making a much better rate than me. I am at 7.5 cpl TR and 5 cpl SR.

They promised they were going to put my account through some kind of cleanup, but I have not seen any improvement in it at all yet.

I am not planning to stay much longer. I had what I thought were a couple of great days, great dictators, everything went smooth. Ended up at about 220 lph. That is only 11 dollars per hour, much less than my hourly rate was before. I fear it will never be the same again and have a plan to get out.

SR has ruined my job.

Good luck with that. MQ ASR is so bad, I usually - anon

can't even hold onto the required 150 lph.

ASR - Old MT

I can do way more lines on straight typing than with ASR. What are these people thinking?

Same here, 150 lph not happening - Adios

I also am looking to move on. Just not going to get better. There is no way to justify how we experienced transcribers struggle to make the minimum lph on ASR. Of course, who do they have to justify it to? That is why I am getting out. No way to get justice at MQ. Aint gonna happen.

Minimum Line Requirements
Jan 20, 2010

Have any MTSOs set a minimum number of lines per hour for VR Editing (per hour, day, week, or pay period)?  I have seen posts where Medical Transcriptionists/VR Editors have lamented about losing benefits because they are not able to meet straight typing minimums (the average seems to be around 150 lines per hour, 1200 lines per day, or 6000 lines per week), but I have never seen anyone talk about not being able to meet MINIMUM VR Editing requirements.  Since it seems as though most la ...

MT Pay Versus What Nuance Charges Per Line For Hospital Reports
Jun 07, 2014

Does anyone know or maybe even make an educated guess...how much a hospital might pay per line to have Nuance do their reports?  We are guessing somewhere .12 to .15 upwards to .20/line.   Of course they are claiming that this will save them all sorts of money and we'd like to know if they are really going to save as much as they think they are.  Oh...and did I mention that Nuance said they wouldn't be sending anything to anyone who didn't speak English ou ...

I do have some benefits with the VR job, but not good enough to even take them on right now.  After 3 months I will start accruing PTO up to 12 days a year.  Is it worth it?  I was thinking having benefits would be really nice for once in the last 16 years, but now I am thinking it may not be worth the struggle to make a living on VR.  They said the platform for transcription is chartnet or chartscript?  What do you all think? ...

MTSOs - Why Anyone Would Do VR For 0.03 Per Line Or Straight Transcription For 0.07 Per Line
Mar 13, 2012

It's beyond me why anyone would do VR for 0.03 per line or straight transcription for 0.07 per line, even 0.08 stinks.  Are we all that desperate to let these companies get away with not paying a living wage?  It's outrageous.  As long as MTs send their resumes to these companies and apply for these positions, the longer it will take to bring us back to the pay level we deserve.   At this point, i'd rather starve then sell my soul to the devil. ...

What Determines Which Reports Are SR And Which Are Straight Transcription?
Jan 16, 2014

I'm just curious how the clients and/or MTSO's determine this.  You'd think it would be the best dictators use SR, but we have one that is such a horrid dictator it is faster to just transcribe.   There are also some excellent dictators that come through for transcription rather than SR.  Is this a decision the doctors can usually make? ...
