Have any MTSOs set a minimum number of lines per hour for VR Editing (per hour, day, week, or pay period)? I have seen posts where Medical Transcriptionists/VR Editors have lamented about losing benefits because they are not able to meet straight typing minimums (the average seems to be around 150 lines per hour, 1200 lines per day, or 6000 lines per week), but I have never seen anyone talk about not being able to meet MINIMUM VR Editing requirements. Since it seems as though most large MTSOs have already switched over to 50% or more VR as compared to straight typing, I am curious if any MTSOs have set minimum line requirements for VR Editing.
If your MTSO has set VR Editing minimum requirements, would you please list the minimum requirement AND the name of the company, please.
Lately, there are a lot of posters comparing transcription/editing with working at McDonald’s or for less than minimum wage. Minimum wages in 2010 range from $7.25 to $8.55, depending on the state you live in. To make less than minimum wage, you would have to Edit less than 181 to 214 lines per hour (at 0.04 cents per line, which seems to be the average pay for VR Editing). That does not seem unreasonable to me, since straight typing minimums are 150 lines per hour.
If you are averaging less than 181 to 214 lines per hour with VR Editing, would you please list your company name AND platform name. (I am looking for average lines per hour when work is available per hour or per day, not your average over a week or a pay period when down time may have affected and lowered your average.)
I would like to avoid wasting my time applying to MTSOs where I cannot even make minimum wage straight out of the gate with 15 years of Medical Transcription experience. I do not expect to make what I was making 10 years ago, but I would at least like to be able to pay my bills from day one.
It seems like some on this Board believe Medical Transcriptionists are nothing more than typists and that our jobs are no more complicated or demanding than workers at McDonalds. One poster went so far as to say MTSOs should not expect the level of perfection Medical Transcriptionists gave years ago because our current pay is on par with that of the undereducated or even fast-food workers. Even TSA airport screening agents start at $11.75 per hour and I am beginning to think that their jobs are less stressful than ours. At least they seem to be treated better than how some of the MTSOs are treating their Medical Transcriptionists/VR Editors (and I am pretty sure those TSA jobs cannot be out-sourced to India). Medical Transcriptionists/VR Editors should never fear making less than minimum wage, even on day 1 of a new job. Is that too much for us to demand of ourselves?
Let's see, which job, which job???
