Not following CP's is beginning to catch up. - dnr

Posted: Oct 04, 2012

Some clients starting to notice and complaining. But geez, some of those CP's are so lengthy and convoluted and laden with so many things we do not get paid for. Of course, the longer the CP, the more likely the client is to complain. ... Some CP's are so long and involved, those accounts really shouldn't be farmed out to those who normally do the account. To be unfamiliar with an account with so many peculiarities is inviting trouble. Choices, choice, go through that CP and make sure you don't miss any morsel of unpaid tasks and cut your count in half, or just pick out anything major and move on, but then, some of these accounts, if you are not very familiar with them, you will be likely to miss some tiny detail. If the client gets angry enough, which will happen (because of there CP commands and the number of people doing the account who are new), the threatening emails will appear in your in box and the account may be lost anyways despite all the threats. Some clients need a CP "intervention" :)

I think if the clients knew... - Des

what MTs had to do but weren't getting paid for, maybe they'd start doing a little more on their end, instead of demanding the MT do it all.

Clients (thanks to MTSOs and their inflated promises) still think MTs make good money and are paid for all these little extras.

Clients need a wake-up call. It might not change anything, but at least they'd know and the ethics burden would be on them. "First do no harm." I'm sure Hippocrates meant this for the patient, but I'm also sure he didn't envision medicine as a commodity to be sold to the highest (or lowest) bidder.

I don't believe they would care. Just looking for cheap. - dnr

Most, if not all, of the people making the contract decisions have no knowledge of transcription - just like the clowns who make the software we are forced to work with.

One small ray of hope - old and burned out

One of the cardiology groups at a local hospital complained long and loud about the quality of their reports and the hospital hired back a half dozen or so experienced American MTs to QA the work, paying them decent salaries. A friend of mine is so happy she can now work 1 job and have some time for herself that she can barely contain her glee. It will probably be too late for most of us but hopefully this will begin to happen in other instutitions as well. We can only hope.

ASR Catch-22
Jun 12, 2010

Is anyone else experiencing sort of a Catch-22 with ASR in terms of staying disciplined to stay in your chair?  I hate it so much that it makes me tense, and then I have to pop up out of my chair.  When I'm doing straight MT I don't have this pop-out-of-the-chair syndrome.  As well, with ASR, I want to pop up because I'm ticked that I'm not making much money doing it.  Almost like there is no incentive to even SIT there.  But, I have to, a little more ...

The Kinds Of Things ASR Will Never Catch.
Apr 13, 2012

I'd love to know how my old hospital feels about the reports that they're putting in their charts, now that they've outsourced everything to a company that uses ASR (which, incidentally, they were not told would be used when they contracted with the MTSO....although they may have assumed it--I don't know).   There are just soooo many things that ASR will never, ever catch--especially in cases where the doctor is just being absent-minded.  For instance, I once had a ...

I Had An Interview Today, Its In-house, Temp, To Catch Up. Sm
Jul 24, 2013

I am still reeling from this sit-down.  I interviewed with the hiring manager of a huge medical group in this fairly large city.  I got her opinion on the future of MT.  This group wants to get caught up on everything because they are converting to EHR.  So, there is a temp position available.  Its $18 an hour.  Just like the old days.   She told me that, as a manager, in her opinion, MT is gone.  She was a true skeptic and had a wait and see attitude abo ...

P.r.n. Or P.R.N. At The Beginning Of A Sentence
Mar 24, 2012

This has always bugged me.  It looks better with P.R.N. (all caps) at the beginning of a sentence, instead of P.r.n. (just first letter cap'd).   Also, P.O. or P.o. at the beginning of a sentence. 1.  Bactrim. 2.  P.R.N. or P.r.n. fentanyl. 3.  P.O. or P.o. steroids. 4.  Potassium.   Any suggestions? Thanks!   ...

Mar 20, 2010

No replies to Oncall for 6 -7 cpl.  Look down a few ads and see the pathetic one put on by Lee Perfect.  She cannot get anyone to type and says "sad but true."  It just may be that the time for the MTSOs has arrived, meaning that sooner than may have been expected they will be begging for MTs to come to work for them and it will fall on deaf ears and very still fingers.  I think most of us who have been in this profession for years have "finally had it." We are either stayin ...

Why Does The Audio Randomly Start At The Beginning On DQS 7?!

Shortcut To Return To Beginning Of Audio?
Jan 24, 2013

Does anybody know if there is a keyboard shortcut to get back to the beginning of the audio?  With 6.whatever you just went back to the beginning of the text and then did control m to put the audio there and went to the beginning because of the skip markers, now with no skip marker, it only goes back to where the actual report starts, not the beginning of the ADT, if it will go back at all.  I like 7 way better in all other aspects, but having to manually slide the audio back over with ...
