VR line rates for beginning MT - Jm

Anyone know the starting vr line rate for a new MT? I was offered 2.5 cpl vr and 6 cpl straight. Any comments would help!! Thanks
JM, 2.5 is loooow, but just how bad depends on - now much editing the text requires. SM
[ In Reply To ..]I've edited reports so clean I could sip coffee while I read along with dictation sped up to sound like the Chipmunks, but that's rare. At worst text can be so messed up you literally can transcribe from scratch faster. For much text, your hands never stop moving. That latter SHOULD be paid something like 7 cpl to equate to maybe 9 cpl transcribing.
Some companies position themselves as entry ports for newbies into the field, with pay rates reflecting this, but editing wasn't out there when I was in your position. No matter how clean the text, you probably shouldn't expect to be able to support yourself on that pay as a slow newbie, but there'll be more information from people in your place in the New MTs forum on the left of the screen.

[ In Reply To ..]What you were offered are slave wages, and you should run as fast as you can. I work for Nuance, not much better, but you will be offered higher than that. Apply to an ad on here and give it a shot. The VR is one of the best, and I believe you will be near 4 cents a line as a newbie, but I could be off. Def will not be 2.5. Good luck!

I've been working for Medquist/M-Modal now for 11 years Full-time. I was one of those grandfathered in that took a pay cut last year as Medquist deemed they would not pay above .10 cents a line. I am looking at ads here and keep seeing things like 3 cpl for editing. Who could work for that rate and why? These MTSOs really need an awakening. No one should work for 3 cpl. Does getting paid for spaces add about 2 cents to line rate? I was getting 10 cpl for an account (not paid for spaces) and then lost that to offshoring. The new account pays 8 cpl, but paid for spaces, so they say that's equivalent. Does that sound right? Is that the average rate now? I have decided I will not accept any MT transcription rates lower than 9 cpl (in an employee position) or 11 cpl (in an IC position). For medical editing, I'm not going to work for lower than 50% of the transcription rate. For me, it will just not be worth it to do it for less. Can anyone explain to me the line rates on the new pay stubs. Mine is not showing my actual lines, just the money. When I go to the web site for the breakdown it shows 4 different rates that seem to vary from week to week. They are Week 1 TR, Week 2 TR, Week 1 SR and week 2 SR.
