Can't help but think MM getting into coding is the beginning of the - end for decent pay for coders nm

BackingOutWithCoding - CodeMode

[ In Reply To ..]
If they can get you interested in coding and training for it, it maybe their backdoor escape from UI. Can't help but believe doctors could do their own coding along with the EMRs. After all, it is only an ICD-9 code of which doctors know better than anyone because that is how they get paid.

Doctors and coding - gltrgrami

[ In Reply To ..]
As far as doctors doing their own coding, that is exactly what I think will eventually happen. I have already read the coding is the next thing to go overseas. So, there you have it.

Yep, I've been warning about this for a year, & - get eaten alive by the Board Pirhanas -

[ In Reply To ..]
every time I do. I was curious about getting into coding in the fall of 2012, but began to see the writing on the wall when I read that MTSOs were getting involved. Here comes the Middleman, and there will go the on-site jobs that pay a living wage.

Okay, watch out - here come the pirhanas!

Isn't the point of the ICD-10 - To eliminate need for dictating

[ In Reply To ..]
That is why there are 100,000 codes. The Provider pops in a code, you have your dictation and your billing, bada bing bada boom.

Both jobs are a dead end. The only difference is MTs know it and coders haven't quite woken to reality yet.
You can dislike, but it doesn't change the reality - anon

Those codes are very precise - like left ankle injury from water skiing while jumping through ring of fire chugging a margarita (slight exaggeration, but not by much).

They totally eliminate the need for transcription and pretty much coders too. It is going to become one stop shopping.

Shake the sand out of your hair, clock is ticking.
Honestly, after listening to some of the doctors - I edit for

I do not believe the reimbursement department of the hospital would allow these doctors anywhere near the codes. The codes are extremely precise and I think some doctors could do it, for example clinic doctors who code EMs and common complaints, but not inpatient specialists. Too much room for error and that affects the hospital's bottom line, delays payments, not gonna happen.
"Not gonna happen" - Heard that about a lot of things
[ In Reply To ..]
Most of them "happened."

I am 20 years from retirement. Transcription certainly doesn't have that long and what is happening with coding right now is following the exact same path as what has lead to our imminent demise.

Like Fox Mulder, I Want To Believe, but wanting and reality are very different.

I am getting retrained for something that requires a human.
"Not gonna happen": Isn't that what we said - about transcription? That it was - sm

so precise, required an immense amount of education, reading and comprehension proficiency, and typing proficiency?

I remember back when they hauled my very first computer into the office and plopped it on my desk. I was the guinea pig. I liked it, felt it had promise, but my co-workers thought no way a computer could be as good as a Selectric. (Back then, the printout of computers left a lot to be desired, but that got fixed.)

We said the same about an electronic medical record. We said the same about VR, offshoring, and doctors entering their own data.

And right now I'm sitting here thinking there's no way I want to share the road with automated, driverless cars, let alone ride in one. And yet they're still building and testing them......
No, that is not the point of ICD10 - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
Sorry, no, that is not the point of ICD10.

No, you cannot drop in a code and there is your documentation. The documentation justifies use of the code.

There aren't 100,000 codes, either. It is 68,000.

I have an acct where dictator gives the code. It shows up in the - ADT automatically and is dictated. nm

pretty sure that was intentional, and had some higher purpose further down the road. And now we know that it does.

P.r.n. Or P.R.N. At The Beginning Of A Sentence
Mar 24, 2012

This has always bugged me.  It looks better with P.R.N. (all caps) at the beginning of a sentence, instead of P.r.n. (just first letter cap'd).   Also, P.O. or P.o. at the beginning of a sentence. 1.  Bactrim. 2.  P.R.N. or P.r.n. fentanyl. 3.  P.O. or P.o. steroids. 4.  Potassium.   Any suggestions? Thanks!   ...

Not Following CP's Is Beginning To Catch Up.
Oct 04, 2012

Some clients starting to notice and complaining. But geez, some of those CP's are so lengthy and convoluted and laden with so many things we do not get paid for. Of course, the longer the CP, the more likely the client is to complain. ... Some CP's are so long and involved, those accounts really shouldn't be farmed out to those who normally do the account. To be unfamiliar with an account with so many peculiarities is inviting trouble. Choices, choice, go through that CP and m ...

Mar 20, 2010

No replies to Oncall for 6 -7 cpl.  Look down a few ads and see the pathetic one put on by Lee Perfect.  She cannot get anyone to type and says "sad but true."  It just may be that the time for the MTSOs has arrived, meaning that sooner than may have been expected they will be begging for MTs to come to work for them and it will fall on deaf ears and very still fingers.  I think most of us who have been in this profession for years have "finally had it." We are either stayin ...

Why Does The Audio Randomly Start At The Beginning On DQS 7?!

Shortcut To Return To Beginning Of Audio?
Jan 24, 2013
