Mandatory hour of OT a day...I think not! - Debs
Posted: Dec 17, 2014That is not legal!
On top of that, helping other trouble accounts - sm

Just got an email that not only is there at least 1 hour of mandatory OT for everybody in our POD today through Friday, we will have work from another POD who needs help mixed in with ours. How in the heck does that make sense? You don't slow down your workers who need to get their familiar/semifamiliar accounts out of trouble with work from accounts that they don't know at all. If OT is needed in both PODs, keep them separate; I guarantee it will get done a lot faster.
Why can't we get people who know what they are doing to manage this company?
They're trying to prove that the POD works. - clyde

The POD system is a huge failure! And they're scared out of their minds. I don't know why they thought it would work.
They give us 40 accounts (maybe 5 of which we're familiar with) and expect us to produce the same amount, while bombarding us with emails about how behind we are. I don't have time to read emails. I don't feel motivated to work even my scheduled hours! Then throw in unfamiliar accounts and unfamiliar dictators. That all takes time. They thought we'd be "used to" it by now, but we're not, as we can see from the backlog. Usually this time of year we're running out of work on a regular basis, and here we are slammed.
Hello, MModal, your POD is a failure. You can offer all the OT you want. That's just money in my pocket as I try to make the same I was making in my BOB.
You think that throwing in accounts outside of the POD really bother us? It's all the same now! Every day is an unknown.
So now they face the difficult decision:
1. Do we go back to BOBs but have managers and schedulers manage many BOBs?
2. Do we continue on with the POD, and hope to that we lowly MTs get the hang of managing 40+ accounts on a daily basis while maintaining a 99.6% accuracy and limit QA submissions?
Time will tell, but I'm guessing OT will just be the new normal with a POD and I can't imagine MModal ever admitting that they made a mistake, so they can pay me OT to get the same amount of work done until they pull their heads out and get yet another CO who changes it again because he wonders why the company that went bankrupt is paying so much money in unnecessary OT.
Sign me...laughing all the way to the bank, only working OT when it's convenient for me, my family comes first because obviously I don't come first for this company I've given 25 years to.
actually, it is - true stuff

before the pods, while working for a supervisor i really liked, we had mandatory one hour OT quite often. i grumbled, and then i looked it up. it is indeed legal. so i just shut up and did it. i told you, i gave up the fight some time ago. not the complaining though.
;) that steam has to come out somehow.
Im not working a mandatory 1 hour OT EVER - sm

Never have, never WILL, don't care what they threaten with. As for the pods and the unfamiliar accounts..Am I the only one noticing the mistakes being made. I am 100% sure I am making them as well, cause I have no clue how to decipher the CPs that are so vaguely written..Go into past reports, no consistency in formatting at all, that is my pet peeve, drives me insane..Not a far drive anymore, BTW

I agree. How can they say mandatory hour a addy for the rest of this week? It's not our flippin fault these stupid doctors are dictating reports from months and even a year ago. I don't have time for overtime! Already on me to change my schedule and I don't want to do that either. We will see what happens.

If we are scheduled off on one or more of those days (not PTO)... are we still expected to do an hour of OT?
read the email - true stuff
[ In Reply To ..]
is says in the email that it does not pertain to people who are scheduled off.
You must be in a different POD - mtwillworkforfood

My email doesn't say anything about people who are off on those days with mandatory OT.

I thought it was just me. I am on a fairly new acct and get dinged for something, will write it down so I don't do it again, and then change it to the way they told me to, and then get dinged from another QA about the way the first one told me to. I too see many differences in old reports, and asked them about it, but never got a response. This place just gets weirder all the time.

I fractured my ankle 2 weeks ago, and it is tough enough to begin with to put in my 8 hours. I have to elevate my leg on a stool! I certainly am not doing it.

The way I read the e-mail, it sounds like at least 1 hour this week (between Wednesday and Friday), not 1 hour a day. Anyone else read it this way?

Ours is mandatory 1 hour each day for the rest of this week.

I checked, and ours, at least, is just 1 hour for the week.

We have been on overtime pretty much since the POD started of which I have participated every time they asked. Now today we get the mandatory emails. I am exhausted. Yes I have made a lot of money but finally I had to stop checking my email and walk away from the computer after my shift. I need to take care of my sanity and my family. I only thought this was a temporary thing but it is obvious now the POD stands for Permanent Overtime Demanded.
I really would like to see them write me up for not working OT this week considering how much I put in the last weeks. If I end up in the hospital because of exhaustion will I have to work there too?
OR WHAT? - MTFedUp

I had 13 hours OT on my last check, which only brought me back to what I lost when we went to the POD thing ($200). I already have 10 hours from last week, and 6 hours, so far, this week. I have already committed to 4 extra hours this week, but I intentionally did not offer OT for Friday, since my Saturday shift starts in the middle of the night. They can say what they want, but it is impossible for me to get up that early and work with only 4 hours sleep. You would think they could cut some slack to those who have already volunteered extra hours :(
After so many hours, all of my OT goes to taxes. It has gotten to that point where it's just not worth it.

I work 25 hours a week. My OT amounts to minimum wage for the hour. Thanks, but no thanks.

forbidden from doing any overtime if you are on Performance Management!!! Surprised there is anyone left who is eligible...
Oh they even waived that requirement in our POD - all hands on deck

Now there is even talk of extending the mandatory through Sunday. Bah humbug to them too. Makes you wonder though what happened behind the scenes. Somebody posted a picture once of an office full of monkeys and that is exactly what I imagine corporate to look like now. Nobody knows what is going on but they sure like to blame the MTs. Must be our fault. How about you tell the client that the reports they dictate months late will be late. Silly to expect the same turnaround as everything else.

Just Wondering What You Make Per Hour, Based On A 40-hour Week...sm Jul 26, 2013I know none of us get paid by the hour, but I was just wondering if any of you have ever figured out just how much you earn per hour, based on a 40-hour week. I'm just trying to figure out where I fit in. I seem to be earning $16-18/hour give or take based on how my week goes. ...
Average Per Hour With 0.75 Or 0.375 Versus $12.00 Per Hour Mar 31, 2014My transcription job was always paid by the hour. I was laid off and they recently offered me a temp position with them making $12.00 an hour. I was also offered a positon that pays 7.5 and 3.5 cpl. The $12.00 is employee status for a small local company I worked for over 9 years. The other is an IC position. Do you think I would make more with the $12.00 an hour or the per line production rate? I have never done production by line work so I'm not sur ...

Mandatory Oct 10, 2012Anybody enjoying the mandatory overtime. Yea funny how we are on mandatory overtime and then get an email that states that if you run out of work, you are required to email them and flex your time and can only make it up after 5 p.m. So again, you are required to check for your work throughout the day and if there is no work, sorry for your luck and if you want to be "lucky" enough to be employed w/ Nuance, you will then have to sign in and work on your off shift to make up your hour ...

Mandatory Meetings - DSG Apr 22, 2010How can a company order you to attend mandatory conference calls and mandatory HIPAA training and mandatory platform training sessions and not pay you for your time? Mandatory Training Without Pay - Really? Jun 03, 2010Just informed that I have to take MANDATORY HIPAA training without pay because I can take it "anytime on my OWN time!" LOL!!! The course is 45 minutes long! Looks Like Mandatory CMT Credentials Soon. Aug 02, 2010Just like the post below stated, House of Delgates known as (HOD) from AHDI is wanting everyone to ensure patient safety and the integrity of patient records, all persons involved in creating, editing, organizing, or transmitting protected health information should be formally trained and hold credentials relevant to those duties. To that end, AHDI should move forward with the support of its leadership in actively advocating for mandatory credentialing by whatever means that can be accompl ...
Mandatory Weekends....why? Apr 09, 2011Why do MTSOs require weekend coverage for every one of their accounts? I have 2 and have work up the yin yang during the week but come Saturday, I'm watching paint dry. My MTSO requires 1 weekend day, at least 4 hours. I changed my weekend shift TWICE to work during the "busy" dictation times and I'm still NJA. Now that it's getting nicer outside, I've got plans and wanna have a life again. The higher ups get off every weekend, why can't we, or at least rotate? I do ...
TT Mandatory Training Jun 10, 2011In my state, they are required by law to pay. I called the labor board to verify. By law, they have to pay if you are a non-exempt employee. I can't file a complaint until the training is completed, but I can do it online the same day as I complete the training. They (labor board) also advised that I keep emails and attach them to the complaint. Unfortunately, it could take up to a year to get the money - my state is sloooow in resolving issues.

I am aware of the OIG's compliance guidelines, but nowhere in that document do I find anything about mandatory certification.

Mandatory Credentialing Oct 16, 2012I was thinking... mandatory CMT credentialing might not be a bad thing. I'd have no problem passing that exam, but would the Indian MTs? If CMT were a requirement for ANY MT transcribing/editing US-based medical dictation, I think we'd lose our Indian partners pretty quickly.
If AHDI could ("would" is probably more appropriate) make this happen, I'd gleefully pay CMT dues and attend all the seminars, etc. ...
