Its one thing when private business with private equity sends jobs overseas. It is entirely another when Medicare and Medicaid is supporting job growth in India. Why are we not emassing in the halls of Congress????

By Saturday, I will have a rough draft here for review. I want other's thoughts. This is life and death now people. I live in California and I didn't go to grad school because I married a dolt and did MT. I divorced the id but kept the kids and MT. The entirety of this infuriates me. Is there no one speaking for me at all???? I thought this concept was pretty obvious. CBay? I had an Mmodal mid manager tell me, her voice to my ear, 40% goes to India. WE PAY FOR THAT!!

According to her, Medquist could only manage to offshore 40% of their total volume because 60% of their clients will not allow their work to be sent overseas. Seriously!! I don't know how that has changed or if it has. I currently have two jobs. Both outsource to India but not all of it for exactly the same reason. And honestly, after reading that the US is on its way to becoming a banana republic, with nothing but super-rich and semi-poor people, this business strategy is just offensive.

I think sending a copy to your governor is helpful also. Medicaid is state-level reimbursement.

How should I disperse it? Send me an email? Should I set up a wordpress-type stop and shop, where someone could just copy/paste or download a canned copy and send on?

I can write. I'm really good at that. I need some managerial advise on dissemination of the info.

Irregardless of our geography and our beliefs and political opinions and whether or not we like peas, we ALL have this thing in common. I think there are thousands of us.

Medicare and Medicaid dollars are generated from all of us through payroll tax deductions. Right now, MT companies, some of whom have ties to Wall Street (m$modal), are creating jobs in India, paid for by American tax dollars. Not just MTs tax dollars. Every single person on the payroll.

People, this is our edge we can fight with.

Ooh, I like that. I've been thinking for some time about gathering all our gripes and sending them to a major news outlet, like CNN or Fox. My daughter suggested Bill O'Reily since he'll get the most angry about it. This is a very good stance for concern.

This affects every single person who gets a payroll check. The money WE USED TO MAKE was spent here in our communities. But now its spent in India. This is a a huge amount of commerce that has been moved to India by MTSOs. JP Morgan pretty much owns Mmodal. Do the math. I'm really glad you agree. Lets educate people. The more the better. Everyone. No one is making this connection that is so game-changing. Again, our tax dollars, Medicaid/Medicare are paying for medical transcription to be done in India, and not at home where those dollars are generated by and spent in the local communities. This is a great angle to pursue, the money being taken out of the local communities. Then you throw in the fact that SSN and personal identity is going to India and breaking HIPAA I would think every American would be outraged. We are paying them to take our jobs, break our laws and pretty much encouraging them to sell our most vulnerable citizen's identities.

to family or friends about medical reports going to India? The people I have told have been horrified. I was talking to a recruiter about attending school recently, and we were talking about medical transcription and why I want to get training for a new career. When I mentioned the work going to India, he was very obviously disgusted. He said "you have got to be kidding me. Our medical information goes to India?? Is there a petition to stop that or something?". I think if more people knew, this would not go ignored. MM can try to reassure people all they want about the security of their medical records, but at the end of the day, you can't get around the obvious issue of "are you sure 'bout that MM??".

I have many, many dictations where the doc is just rattling off all kinds of useless - info, like the SS#, DOB, etc. sm

The social history often gives the employer of the patient and spouse's and children's names. That and a google search of that town should turn up an address and enough information that one could literally "become" that person. Meanwhile, the British version of the state dept has issued travel warnings to in India. But its SO AWFULLY SAFE THERE!!! Each individual there has more reason to steal an identity than any one of us has. We would go to prison. They cannot be prosecuted at all and even if they could, India's legal system is corrupt and a mess. Tell EVERYONE about this.

Great!! And you are right. When you throw in security concerns, on top of tax dollars being spent - we have ourselves a good argument.

There is also a Medicare deduction and though you don't see it as directly, Medicaid (statewide public healthcare) is also generated by tax dollars, right? My mother paid into SS and Medicare forever. She had a chronic illness before she passed, it was paid for by Medicare. But that transcription had about a 40% likelihood of ending up in India if it was an Mmodal account.

There is no link for this. This is something that only we see vividly. The LINK is going to come from us. I don't want to go off on a tangent but honestly, in this situation, capitalism just doesn't work. Capitalism should be out of healthcare, period. There is no way that our tax dollars spent to support our parents and grandparents should be propagating job growth in India when we are in jobloss crisis.

Again, there is no "link." We have to make our link and make our voices heard.

My PT job is calling Medicare. Guess who answers - the phone? INDIA!

I about had a heart attack. Yep! My other part time job is to call Medicare claims and checking why they did not patient this patient's bill. Who answers the phone? INDIA. Takes a long time to explain the claim, etc. and for them to understand the claim. Sometimes I get an English speaking person and it takes only 5 minutes or less to figure out why the claim was denied for payment.

Made me sick that OUR GOVERNMENT outsources call for Medicare to INDIA.

Did you ask if they were in India? Maybe it was just someone with an accent. At least that's the thought that will help me sleep tonight. I can't stomach the idea that our own government would do that. Canada's looking pretty good right about now.

Just wondering if it's okay/possible to put my "Call" macros back towards the end of General_Macro? And if so, where? I don't know where to begin with trying to record a macro for this need myself. If anything..they are simply a Sales Convention for MTSOs and only have their interest at heart. There are never topics that relate to working as an MT or being properly represented. Instead we get the never ending changing BOS, or the CMT certification which AGAIN has changed...and btw..took a look a "sample" test and it has NOTHING to do with being an MT!
