My husband and I pay 450 a month with a 10,000 deductible, and then they only cover 80% after that!

Those of us that have health issues and go to the doctor frequently and get medicines monthly need it even if it has a high deductible. It was great when I 1st started though. It was $500 deductible and 90%/10%. Man, that was great then.

You are correct. I really hate not having the copay for office visits since I have to go regularly because of chronic illnesses. If you don't have any major illnesses and rarely go to the doctor, it may not be worth it. You would be better off putting it into a savings account to use later on. But, you never know when something is going to happen and you will need it. Life is so unpredictable.

Sadly, that is the conclusion that I have came too.

Recent surgery for me --hospital bill was over 30K ... Humana contracted rate was 8K ..

My husbands' MRI - charged $1150, Humana contracted rate was $300.

so, even though I think the deductible and out of pocket are horrible, to get those contracted rates is what will help should it be needed. Our30% of 8K is a lot less than worrying about the whole 30K or filing bankruptcy because of it.

Not sure I explained this well, but it is better than nothing.

Our profession and the healthcare field as a whole are just so broken.

to keep the insurance. I had forgotten about the contracted rates. My doctor's office explained that to me when I told them I would no longer have a copay. Everything is going up everywhere, so of course the insurance has since the employers have to foot some of the bill, they will put the rest on the employee. It's a business and they have to make money some how.

If I take the CMT test the goal is to increase my income from my current earnings as a full time MT/ME.  But is it worth the $$ and time required to prepare for and take the CMT test?  I am confident that I would have no problem passing the test after adequate review, etc. So is it worth the effort?  Bottom line -- it will cost money to take the exam and it will cost money to either enroll in a review course or buy review materials to prepare for the exam.
