Looking for a job is terrifying, heart-in-throat time. On the other hand...you discover there are jobs with YEARLY EVALUATIONS (yes!)...RAISES (double yes!)...PROMOTIONAL OPPORTUNITIES (I can't believe it!)...absolutely stunning, you don't realize how brainwashed you are, how hammered you are, till you GET OUT.

Scared...but free.

Don't think of it as shaking like a leaf. Think of it as fluttering like a butterfly.

I think it will be worth it also. Just recently got a new job out of MT but haven't started yet... not for a couple more weeks. It is such a strange feeling to realize that I will actually be going to an office sometime soon. I keep telling myself, yes it's real, you actually succeeded in getting a different job. I have to find all new clothes and shoes, and there are so many things spinning in my head. It's exciting and frightening all in one.

I start tomorrow! Going to an office! Seeing people! - Wearing nice clothes! Dream come true! nm

for my State troopers last Friday. I am still going through the certification process but at the end of my 6 months probation I get a RAISE, if all goes well. It is tough, I will be completely honest, learning something new. I was a medical transcriptionist for 25 years (I am now 45) and was terrified to look for something new. Now I get up EVERY day, shower, dress nicely and get the heck out of my house. That, by itself, has done so much for my self-esteem, my mental outlook, my feeling of self-worth, everything. In addition to the wonderful feelings that go with it, I have lost 10 pounds within the last week just by being up, moving, out and going. Again, I cannot express to anyone who is still a MT, there are jobs out there. Be bold, be strong, remember that you are wonderful and worthy women and men who are worthy of so much more, YOU deserve more and you CAN and WILL find it if you continue to look. Leave no stone unturned and never assume that you are too old to learn something new or for someone to hire you, I am a prime example that is NOT the case.

I really wish you all the best of luck. I think of you all, all of the time and will continue to check back, hoping that things are making a turn for the better.

Congratulations to you, wheres_my_job, I hope that you are happy in your new quest in life and very successful. :)

I graduated a year and a half ago from a very good MT school. I graduated with high honors and felt ready to tackle this profession. I have over 30 years experience. I have worked in 2 major hospitals and as an independent contractor. I know what I am doing. Problem is, I am human. I make mistakes. Is it worth purchasing the BOS 3 before I start testing? I have looked online to see what others have said, and it seems like most have said they wouldn't spend the money because it's not that different from the 2nd version. If I take the CMT test the goal is to increase my income from my current earnings as a full time MT/ME. But is it worth the $$ and time required to prepare for and take the CMT test? I am confident that I would have no problem passing the test after adequate review, etc. So is it worth the effort? I guess I just need to vent/rant for a minute. I have been an MT for over three years now. I seem to be one of the few who prefers VR over ST. I worked for Spheris before MQ gobbled them up, and I thought they were a great co. to work for. They paid 5 cpl for VR, which is pretty good if you can edit 300-400 lph. Just wondering if it is worth it to test up to tier 3 or not. I wouldn't mind getting more in my work pool (especially as things have been a bit slim lately with the holidays), but had heard there was no pay increase for moving up a tier, plus was worried that I'd have to spend more time in research for the first while getting used to the new work, hence slow production down.
