rude employers - Irritated MT

Posted: Jan 19, 2011

Are the rest of you as disgusted as I am with not hearing back after sending an application?  Are all these ads for work just made up to look like there are jobs when in reality the ads are fakes?  I hear from so many other MTs/editors that they apply for jobs but never hear back, even after receiving permisson to do testing.  Maybe we should all stop applying and let them sit and spin!

I dont see this as a big deal. Keep sending resumes, - eventually you will hear back. nm

Last time I was looking I applied to 2 carefully - chosen companies, did not hear

anything for 2 weeks, although I sent follow-up e-mails, then got offers from both within 2 days of each other. That was a healthier job market, but the hurry up and wait's the same. Keep applying. :)

rude employers - sc

Yes, I'm very discouraged too. At least I know it's not just me they're ignoring, which is somewhat gratifying. These days, they have all the control and they know it. It's like they periodically come out and throw chicken feed at us, and we're all down on the ground scrounging to get what we can to survive. This used to be a proud industry, but not anymore.

If you submit resume to Target, water company, office, - etc, do you expect to hear from SM

[ In Reply To ..]
them that they recieved your resume? NO. MTSO gets 100s of resumes, if not more. Surely you dont think they are going to acknowledge all of those, heck, 1/2 the time they done acknoledge emails from employees. You ever heard dont sweat the small stuff? This is the smallest of the small stuff.

You know what would be kind of a fun thing to try? - ** see message **

Get a lot of MTs together to pick a particularly RUDE employer, one that advertises all the time, and never responds to resumes, and then crash their website by totally flooding it with thousands upon thousands of applications to their so-called "job".
Bwaa...ha..ha..haaaaahhh!

Seriously, if they are receiving 100s of resumes, - they do not have time to repond.NM

Sure they do, it's never been easier to pop an auto email - back. Although I am in the oh-well group anyway,

[ In Reply To ..]
I'd give first consideration to a company that had the courtesy to hit the send-answer button.

Try applying in person and see how much you like the "old" way of doing things - It really is no big deal

[ In Reply To ..]
I wouldn't worry about that too much. It isn't worth the energy you are expending over it. Just apply and get on with it.

Alot of places, you cant even apply in the store. It is all - on-line. nm

It was horrible fighting traffic, waiting for appt, interviewing, waiting weeks for response - The old days of interviewing were awful

[ In Reply To ..]
I much prefer online interviewing and testing. I remember waiting weeks and weeks to find out how I did on face-to-face interviews, after fighting traffic, looking for parking spaces, shaking in my shoes, sweating through the interview, and then nothing for weeks, if at all. Sometimes they would turn people down on the spot. Often they would send you to the next level for another interview and another one after that, then there were no guarantees that you would get that job after all that time, energy, sweat, gas, dressing up, etc.
Not here! Back in the day, if I had an in-office interview, - I was always put to work that same day. nm

The same day? - Anonymous

What about 2 weeks notice to your current employer, the preemployment paper work, new employee orientation, etc? No one who gets hired for an in house job starts work the same day they interview unless they are the only candidate applying, which would be extremely rare.
The same day. (Inhouse). I was always between - jobs when I applied, so no 2-wk notice. sm

Our "orientation" was, "Here's an empty desk, and here are some tapes. Let me find you a headset, and you're in business."

This experience wasn't recent, it was about 20 years ago. And yes, back then employers could advertise for weeks without getting a single bite. In some cases there was no ad. I just walked in cold, asked if they had openings, and was usually looked at the way someone might look at a $1000 bill that just happened to blow up to them in the wind and land at their feet.

And of course, after finding that yes, I COULD transcribe the work they'd given me to test on, they simply said, "You're hired", kept me at that desk, and gave me work to do. They needed the work done; in most instances they gave me the paperwork at the end of the shift, which I brought back in with me the next morning after having completed it. Things were a little bit simpler then, without all that HIPAA cr@p to worry about. As a result, we were ALL much better off: Employer, MT, patient, and doctor. Today the MT business is just one big circus and money-grabbing free-for-all.
HIPAA crap? Try serving that sincere opinion up - to an interviewer, or do not if you want
[ In Reply To ..]
to be hired THESE days. No wonder they scan these boards.

And they do. I believe I inadvertently helped myself that way. I'd once posted a "how to succeed by working hard" response to someone who clearly was probably not going to, a good deed sort of thing, and a couple of days later in a phone interview got a nuanced, cute tone of voice referring to some "clue" that I was that person. The same voice then offered me a job. BTW, in case nuance passed over, I am a HIPAA supporter. Of course, since I do understand it's not all about causing me trouble.

As to why they were so eager to hire way back then: geographic limitations. They had to take what they hoped was the best available within about a 20 to 30-mile radius at most.

Rude Employers - No Mo

I am assuming you think you are dealing with actual people when applying to these companies! I too have fallen into the trap of applying, testing and never hearing anything back, except perhaps a computer generated e-mail, stating I didn't qualify. I applied at MedGarde and heard immediately back from a "recruiter" (yeah right) and they sent me a test, which I did and I know I did well, despite all the static and never a word back. It finally dawned on me, that the minute you send in a resume, it just gets bounced back to you via the internet. I am tempted to send in another app to this company under a different name and listing very limited experience and see what happens. I bet you anything it will come back just like the first one did. We are all lost in cyberspace. No more for me, I'm done. Unless someone can personally call me, no more wasting my time on these places.

I bet you are right. Send a resume, immediatley have to - test with no human input in it. nm

I know what you mean, but I still do it anyway. I am on unemployment and I know they will soon as me to show proof of who I send to. Very few responses do I get, but have gotten some, saying I don't fit what they are looking for, do not have proper equipment (software, OS, etc). But I just keep sending and sending, hoping somebody will get back to me. I have a file folder on my outlook of all the ones I have sent and after six months go back and resend. I guess in the internet world it is the same as "hitting the pavement" from years ago. Good luck. I hope you get something soon. Hang in and try not to let it bother you.

Rude QA
Sep 13, 2010

Have to say, have been with this company for over 2 years and have always found QA helpful and informative.  Today; however, I ran into my first "smart %&^%".  I am sure they have a lot of work and attitudes to deal with, but....  I am sure sarcastic remarks will come back to bit this person in the butt at some point.  Their function is to assist the MTs in making an accurate report for the customers, pointers and assistance are great.  Ridicule,  not so much.&n ...

Rude QAs
Mar 18, 2012

I have encountered my first rude QA at this company (Transcend).  My audit scores last week were 100%.  The week before that 99% and 100%.  They have never been below 98% but are usually around 99%.  Starting receiving a new worktype and I sent some reports to QA because I didn't know what the heck the doc was saying.  The SR didn't even pick him up because he is difficult to understand.  Besides the fact, I hadn't transcribed his reports but a few ti ...

My CCM Is So RUDE. This Is
Apr 11, 2012

apparently the first time she's ever had any power & she doesn't know how to professionally handle it.  I've been a supervisor before.  This is not how you treat employees.  We are all adults, in this together, working as a team.  We're not children to be talked down to.  Asking nicely for something works a lot better than threats & rudeness.  I would love to transfer to a more professional, less nasty CCM.  The one I had before was ...

Rude People
Dec 15, 2009

Why has everyone gotten so rude.  You apply for jobs and you can sense the "Tude" through the E-mails - if they are kind enough to send you one!  35+ years experience and they act like you are just off the boat to Transcription Land.    Counting the days until I can retire.  Love the websites that say you can make $60 K a year too - now that is really rude! ...

RUDE RECEPTIONIST
Jul 30, 2010

I have been seeing my PA every three months right after my cardiologist for congestive heart failure.  He prescribes my meds and communicates with my cardiologist during my checkup.  He's a pretty nice guy who really cares about his patients, and his nurses are awesome.  However, his receptionist is rude and unprofessiional. She answers the phone with an attitude, like she hates being there, and seems like she takes it out on the patients. She's only in her early 20 ...

DTSOK, SO RUDE
Mar 20, 2012

I responded to DTSOK's job posting on another board 2 weeks ago.  Within a couple hours, I received an email from their recruiter, indicating that I should take the test that day, as they were planning to talk to people that week.  I did this.  A day later, I received an email from the transcription manager, indicating that I had passed the test, and asking if I was still interested, and asking me to respond to her with the best time for her to call me.  I did this.  ...

May 22, 2012

I don't even really work "for" these people and I get emails that are not only unprofessional but extremely rude.  So after working for 12 years with this company we get a new QA and she thinks she can blast me because I've been in the hospital and didn't work for a week? Yes, I'm very mad. ...

Dealing With A Rude TSM
Oct 18, 2013

I've had it with our rude TSM so I just sent an e-mail to HR about them.  Ten weeks ago I put in a request for PTO to attend a family wedding this weekend and sent them an e-mail.  They never got back to me.  I've sent several reminders.  We finally just presumed it was OK and booked the hotel.  Now the TM responds - and we're leaving this afternoon - that I need to give more notice on these things in the future but will approve it anyway.  Say w ...

Where Have All The Employers Gone?
Jan 21, 2011

Even though I just let my AHDI membership expire, I was still due one more issue of their journal, Plexus, which I received today. In previous issues, I always scanned the "Employers Guide" pages in the back of the journal, and there were many  employers listed - at least two pages' worth. This newest issue, however, lists only seven. Perhaps the rest went overseas? ...

2 Jobs At Once 2 Employers
Oct 15, 2009

I have been an MT for about 4 years now.  I have been working with one employer doing speech editing transcribing 3200 lines per 8-hour shift.  However, I just received a 2nd job from a different employer working part-time and they pay more.  My question is one employer needs my computer to have Word 2003 on it for their program to work and the other employer needs my computer to have Word 2007.  How can I do both jobs at the same time.  Has anyone done this before and i ...

To Employers: My Pet Peeves For The Day

Dear Employer:  Please make client sheets clear.  I am so tired of reading a client sheet over and over trying to understand how something is supposed to be done.  There's got to be a better way.  Don't put information in one area of the client sheet and then an exception to the rule somewhere else.  I read through the instructions until I find what I need, if there is an exception to the rule it should be where the rule is, not somewhere else in the instructi ...

Employers' Platforms
May 14, 2011

Has anyone here turned down a job with an MTSO because their platform is crappy? My employer's platform is TERRIBLE!!  You have go through 15 mouse commands (no hot keys!) to perform the simplest function such as signing off a job.  I have never seen more inefficient software in my life!!  Of course, since they own it now they claim it's the greatest thing since sliced bread.... Would love to hear your platform stories!! ...

Are The Remaining In-house Employers Discriminating

at home for MTSOs?  Some ads seem to want X-number of years of RECENT on-site MT experience.  Others don't say that, but with so many failed job applications this past year, even for areas that I've specialized in for 20 years, I'm getting no interest, and often no replies at all.  In addition to having more than 20 years' experience, do you think these employers have a problem with work-at-home MTs?  Like maybe they see us as undisciplined, poorly trained ...
