I did go ahead and email the rude lady and told her - sm

thank you, but I do not think I want to work for someone so rude.  I am glad I did.  Maybe she will consider her actions more thoroughly before sending a response next time.  I sure hope so.  I am glad I did that, too.

Good for you! - nm - anon

Now she knows why she doesn't want to hire you.

Getting the last word in never solves anything. Nobody who hears it is ever impressed.

Hope she doesn't share your resume around at other companies.

And hope she doesnt switch jobs and goes to work for - next company you work for. nm

of what was said. It is not so much a matter of calling out a rude person and addressing the fact that someone was rude. It may be more a matter of picking your fights in life, as so often is the case. The rude person may have had a job, though we can't know because you said you sent an unsolicited application or resume. Even if they don't have a job today, if they have a job tomorrow, you will not be considered at all. That person could have just been a recruiter, or another staff position, or could have been one of the higher ups in the company, but we can't know that. Recruiters as well as higher ups often move from one company to another. It was probably a person that if one was hired, you would have little to no contact with them. The long and short of it all is if that person has something you want, even if we don't like the way they respond to us, it is a fruitless endeavor to address it at all, because you can't gain anything more than fleeting personal satisfaction from it. Nobody like's it, but that is the way it is now and has always been. You could have applied to them in a 6 months to a year and possibly have gotten a completely different response because they would not have remembered who you were or that you had ever sent them a resume or application. But they will indeed remember you now, and not in a good way.

I actually applied for a position quite recently with an office that does sleep studies, and the starting pay was not bad. The interview was horrible. I was interviewed by a young woman and a young man, both of whom were more than young enough to be my children. I had sat in one of the two chairs that were in the room (like ladder back dining chairs). There was also a half sofa that was sitting very low. This was in one of the sleep study rooms. The two of them came in and told me that I was supposed to sit on the half sofa, which had me sitting probably 1-1/2 feet below them. Although I have not been on a lot of interviews in recent years, I have been on enough interviews to consider to know what the intention of all this is. I completed the interview, but knew that I was not going to hear from them again. Between feeling like I was being arraigned in court and then the ridiculous questions that I was asked, one of which was what would be my motivation to come to work? I think they probably were supposed to ask the canned question of what motivates you at work. I left feeling more than a little insulted, considering that I have worked for more than 40 years and have worked as a legal secretary, administrative assistant, paralegal, executive secretary, human resources specialist, to name a few, in addition to a college degree. I did take note of the young woman's name. I looked her up on the internet. What I found out about her and about this particular company was interesting. I found oodles of pictures of the young woman from her high school days (she was only about 18 or 19 years old) dressed only in her undergarments, drinking and in various stages of intoxication, throwing gang signs, etc. This was when she was a junior in high school. I also found out by doing a little research that this place was owned by two brothers and this young woman's sister was married to one of those two brothers, which was probably why she even had the job, and that I would probably be the only non-family employee there if I had been hired. When I had asked in the interview how many employees they had, she would not tell me. I know why now. I, too, would have gotten a great deal of personal satisfaction by letting them know that this was not a place I would want to work that was so unprofessional with this "manager's" pictures of her in her underwear, drunk, plastered all over the internet, but it just wasn't worth it. Just knowing was enough satisfaction to me, and they actually did me a favor. I would have been more miserable there than with doing MT (even though that job paid more).

That miserable interview actually drew my attention to all the BS that the mindless sheep follow when conducting interviews because they don't know how to interview and don't know what they're really looking for. Should I be asked to sit on furniture that is lower than those who would be interviewing me again, I will let them know that I am not going to sit on something that uncomfortable and bad for one's back, and will just stand for the interview. I also researched the interview questions and found that this is where they are getting all these ridiculous questions from. In the end, the next time I will indeed be better prepared for the interview and better prepared to get treated with some basic level of respect.

And all this was for a receptionist position.
To the one who had the bad interview - anon
[ In Reply To ..]
Everybody's different in how they react (or not) to things. Personally, from what you described, I think you acted liked a doormat at that interview. I might consider sending a letter to the owner of the company (BIL to the girl who interviewed you), straight to his home as that info is easy enough to find on government tax property records, and explain what happened. If I felt like wasting my printer ink, I might send along a couple of the scantily-clad social media pics you found.

Yes, so, it would give me a fleeting moment of satisfaction, but it would also be a learning experience to the employees, hopefully eventually anyway. What difference does it make if you tell them how you feel? They're not going to hire you and you don't want to work for them. It will probably take that female interviewer a good ten years to mature or maybe find a "real" (in other words, not family-owned business) job, and by that time, you're probably ready to retire so you won't see her again.

Think of it as doing them a favor. Apparently they don't know how to interview prospective employees.
You're right - different strokes
[ In Reply To ..]
It is your prerogative to think that I acted like a doormat. The only thing I would have done differently, however, was to stand for the interview. What you propose is not my method of handling things that in the end are of no consequence to me and do not serve my purpose at hand. It clearly was a place that I would not have liked to work, and since I was not going to work there, it seemed pointless to have any further contact with them. I much preferred to devote my time and energy to something that I would be of benefit to me, i.e., a job that would produce income. The learning experience that you refer to would consist of all 5 employees (which includes the female who interviewed me). I have no interest in teaching anybody anything. I am not a teacher and school let out a long time ago.

I was looking for a job, not revenge.
Class act, way to take the high road! nm - starzzz

Has The Fat Lady Sung? 95% Accuracy.
Sep 12, 2011

I had a conversation with my personal physician today.  He was using a laptop throughout the course of my exam. I questioned him as to whether this was EMR. He stated that it was.  His entire practice has converted to EMR in conjunction with front-end speech recognition.  This is the part that knocked me off of my feet--he stated that the physicians in the practice consistently get 95% accuracy in the drafts that present on the screen for them to edit. Note: They are editing the ...

Rude QA
Sep 13, 2010

Have to say, have been with this company for over 2 years and have always found QA helpful and informative.  Today; however, I ran into my first "smart %&^%".  I am sure they have a lot of work and attitudes to deal with, but....  I am sure sarcastic remarks will come back to bit this person in the butt at some point.  Their function is to assist the MTs in making an accurate report for the customers, pointers and assistance are great.  Ridicule,  not so much.&n ...

I have encountered my first rude QA at this company (Transcend).  My audit scores last week were 100%.  The week before that 99% and 100%.  They have never been below 98% but are usually around 99%.  Starting receiving a new worktype and I sent some reports to QA because I didn't know what the heck the doc was saying.  The SR didn't even pick him up because he is difficult to understand.  Besides the fact, I hadn't transcribed his reports but a few ti ...

For the past 2 audits I only came in at 97%.  I think we are suppose to be at 98.9%, but they are all stupid things... like a hyphen or a comma.  I forget sometimes that standard grammar may not apply to MT, but if it was stated in the AAMT BOS or client profile I tend to do it!  All 3 of the reports pulled were  ...

Reading Ahead While Editing
Oct 29, 2010

I've read in quite a few posts here that one of the ways to speed up your editing process is to read ahead of the highlighter. I've also read that some people read up to a whole sentence ahead. I cannot believe that people do this. What if the doctor says something that you didn't catch? Sometimes sentences make sense and you are not aware that the doctor said something because you were paying attention to correcting the draft. Can someone explain to me how you do this without mak ...

Warning! Rant Ahead!
Dec 14, 2010

So my company is moving everyone from IC to employee on Jan 1. Pros: PTO days, insurance for FT, and they deal with taxes. Cons: I don't need their insurance. I want the "employer paid" portion in my check, which we won't get. Expected daily production went up. Level to reach incentive pay went up and not calculated daily. CPL rate went down 15%! And that's for standard transcription, not VR. Just in production pay alone, I'm losing $100-150 per pay period. Even wh ...

RUDE RECEPTIONIST

DTSOK, SO RUDE
Mar 20, 2012

Dealing With A Rude TSM
Oct 18, 2013

I've had it with our rude TSM so I just sent an e-mail to HR about them.  Ten weeks ago I put in a request for PTO to attend a family wedding this weekend and sent them an e-mail.  They never got back to me.  I've sent several reminders.  We finally just presumed it was OK and booked the hotel.  Now the TM responds - and we're leaving this afternoon - that I need to give more notice on these things in the future but will approve it anyway.  Say w ...
