Hey, it's Christmas. Even us secularists can scrape up - a little courtesy. Hi, Jojo. SM

Look left. You'll see a forum just for Medquist people. A search on the Company Board will also bring up discussion. Please note in trying to evaluate companies that a lot of people come here to indulge personal moods and, sadly, even to spread deliberate lies. No company is safe in this time of traumatic and dramatic change, and certainly Medquist, the largest MTSO in probably the world, gets whole a lot of discussion, many blasts no doubt warranted, but... So for your own sake read everything and be very careful about what you believe, or you'll give up any idea of finding a decent MT job anywhere and just go hide in bed instead. Good luck.

Unless you have been living in a cave, you are should be aware of this company's reputation. Did you know that their nickname is THE SQUID? Start by researching the many lawsuits brought against them some years ago--by investors, by hospitals, and by medical transcriptionists. This information is in the public purview and you can find it online. If you have a stock broker, call him and ask why they were delisted from the NASDAQ. There is a boatload of information about these people both in the MTS archives and in the general sources available to the public. Go to some financial databases and trace their history. Above all, DO YOUR HOMEWORK before signing on with these folks.

I used to be an MQ cheerleader. I had a fabulous account with decent backups and a schedule that I loved. I made about 1800 a paycheck. Then, I got a pay cut for ASR 2 years ago, which cost me about 200 a paycheck. Last year, it was FTR and I had to pay to have my reports QA'd if they needed. Then, my primary account got moved to a new service area, and thus began NJA every day for at least 4-6 hours so they asked me to change my shift to graveyard, which I did for the promise of a differential. Lo and behold, my primary got sent to India, and I got transferred to a teaching hospital with over 790 interns and residents. Never the same dictator in a shift, 90% ESL and crap audio. That dropped my pay another 500 a payday. My old primary came back from India, but it got to stay in its old book, and I had to stay in my new one. Now, I have had my differential taken away, which will cost me about 200 a paycheck. I beg of you, don't put yourself through the crap this company dishes out. It is not worth it. I'm in the process of starting my own business (not in the MT field) because working for MQ has killed my love for this work.

I think you said it all when you said you USED to be an MQ cheerleader. That is what the people who still have it good don't understand. That's why they call people like you and me whiners. Wait until it happens to them. I not only believe you, I have been there. There are no words to express my distaste for MQ. And before I get criticized . . . NO. Not every single company is run like MQ. Maybe the pay in this field is not what it used to be, but not every company is run like MQ. They are the bottom of the barrel when it comes to integrity.

And while I'm thinking about it, I honestly believe they want all the US MTs to quit so they can tell the holdouts who won't allow their work sent overseas that there are not enough qualified US MTs to get them to allow it. That is why they are not just laying people off. It has nothing to do with unemployment, they have to pay a set amount for that anyway.
You make a good point. Will be interesting to see if this is - how it all plays out. nm
This is kind of an embarassing question, but when you send your resumes out to companies, do a majority of them simply not contact you to say "thanks anyway" if they are either not hiring or do not want to hire you? I've sent my resume out to a dozen and have only gotten one "not hiring right now " reply. ...
Hi all. There has been talk on this board a lot about people being negative. Seems the people who are venting are too negative and the people that are happy are too happy. I think we all need to respect where the next person is coming from. Isn't it really all about perspective? Where you have been? Where you are going? Some people used to make more money in this field but find themselves working just as hard if not moreso for less pay now ...
HI everyone. I'm seriously thinking of doing medical transcription as a career change. I've been researching schools for about 4-6 months. I realize that Andrews and M-Tec are considered the top two, but I just can't afford these schools. I have read several posts on this forum and am wondering if it is possible to get schooling elsewhere that will give me the information I need to find a job and work successfully. I've b ...
Dear Prospective Employer,
It would have been great if you had specified in your ad whether the opening was on-site or if it was available to telecommuters. If it is not available to telecommuters, then I just wasted over an hour of my time and your HR department has a unqualified application to process.
It would have been great if your HR department had done a trial run through your online application to get the bugs out of it.
It would have been great if you had not designe ...
HI, I would like to hear from anyone who has experience with CardioScribe transcription service. If you have worked for the, how well does their performance match their promises? What is their pay range? Do they have steady workloads to keep their employees busy and happy? Is there effective communication from the management to the workers?
Any information would be appreciated. Thanks!

connection, I would rather have QA when I am unsure of something. FTR doesn't make sense to me. But that's what the winning essay stated, FTR helps MQs sparkling reputation. How can anyone believe that all of the past years medical transcription has been done, it has been done wrong by having MTs be allowed help with dictation they could not be completely sure of, and not even considering them inferior MTs when they needed that help? I know I believe t ...
I can't say I wasn't warned about SS, not only in the archives but by an acquaintance who'd worked there for 2 years, leaving a year ago. I took a shot, hoping they had, or were in the process of turning over a new leaf. It turned out to be the worst employment experience in my 20 years 'on the force.' I have never posted here before, often wondering if the gripes here might be limited to a handful of disgruntled employees; they're not & I'm living proof. I ...
Hi everyone,
I just graduated from Rasmussen online college with a 2 year degree in medical transcription back in September. I was able to land a brief 2 month job in November but the lady that hired me wasn't a patient trainer and let me go because I wasn't perfect right away and she was very busy as well, backed up in fact.
My question is, does Rasmussen College have a good reputation in the medical transcription world? ...
Even though I just let my AHDI membership expire, I was still due one more issue of their journal, Plexus, which I received today. In previous issues, I always scanned the "Employers Guide" pages in the back of the journal, and there were many employers listed - at least two pages' worth. This newest issue, however, lists only seven. Perhaps the rest went overseas? ...
I have been an MT for about 4 years now. I have been working with one employer doing speech editing transcribing 3200 lines per 8-hour shift. However, I just received a 2nd job from a different employer working part-time and they pay more. My question is one employer needs my computer to have Word 2003 on it for their program to work and the other employer needs my computer to have Word 2007. How can I do both jobs at the same time. Has anyone done this before and i ...
Dear Employer:
Please make client sheets clear. I am so tired of reading a client sheet over and over trying to understand how something is supposed to be done. There's got to be a better way. Don't put information in one area of the client sheet and then an exception to the rule somewhere else. I read through the instructions until I find what I need, if there is an exception to the rule it should be where the rule is, not somewhere else in the instructi ...
Are the rest of you as disgusted as I am with not hearing back after sending an application? Are all these ads for work just made up to look like there are jobs when in reality the ads are fakes? I hear from so many other MTs/editors that they apply for jobs but never hear back, even after receiving permisson to do testing. Maybe we should all stop applying and let them sit and spin! ...
Has anyone here turned down a job with an MTSO because their platform is crappy?
My employer's platform is TERRIBLE!! You have go through 15 mouse commands (no hot keys!) to perform the simplest function such as signing off a job. I have never seen more inefficient software in my life!! Of course, since they own it now they claim it's the greatest thing since sliced bread....
Would love to hear your platform stories!! ...
To apply for a job as a Medical Language Specialist employers prefer that your training was acquired from Career Step, Penn Foster, The Andrews School and others. I acquired my training from Professional Career Development Institute, The School of Medical Transcription. Did anyone find a job after graduating from this institute? ...
It was not bad enough for them to let me go without any kind of notice, but now they will not tell DHS how long I worked for them so I can get food stamps!! Thanks DSG!!! ...
Hello fellow MT's! I was wondering if anyone knew of any companies hiring MT's with 1 year exp? I have been an IC for a company since October 2011 and am having trouble finding another company to work for (I want to supplement this income). Thanks!
P.S.
I've already tried M*Modal. ...
So I graduated in February and began the job hunt. Finally I receive one call back from a local company. To date I have attended two seperate interviews. The second time I was supposed to test but the computer was not working so a couple of weeks later they schedule testing at one of the transcriptionist house. I test and the computer freezes up. Luckily the test is recovered the next day and sent to the boss for review. Get another call today, and am told that ...
at home for MTSOs? Some ads seem to want X-number of years of RECENT on-site MT experience. Others don't say that, but with so many failed job applications this past year, even for areas that I've specialized in for 20 years, I'm getting no interest, and often no replies at all. In addition to having more than 20 years' experience, do you think these employers have a problem with work-at-home MTs? Like maybe they see us as undisciplined, poorly trained ...

This is an interesting read by ALANA SEMUELS, of the McClatchy-Tribune.
Here is an excerpt, but please follow the link to the full story. Sound familiar?
"The relentless drive for efficiency at U.S. companies has created a new harshness in the workplace. In their zeal to make sure that not a minute of time is wasted, companies are imposing rigorous performance quotas, forcing many people to put in extra ...
I don't know where they get all of their silly ideas, one new, amazing idea after another. You would think they would look back at the last several silly ideas they've had that didn't work and use some common sense, but that doesn't happen.
It's always the idea to end all ideas, but those ideas never end well.
Just a vent. ...
Unfortunately, I have failed to contact the IT Departments of companies on-line I have worked for transcribing medical dictation after I have left their organizations and asked them how to remove their software. How do I identify and remove any old software from these companies? They don't seem to mind their software is on my computer, but I think it is probably time to delete it. I am having trouble reaching these people as some of the companies are no longer in business ...
I've been an LPN for 20 years and want to learn medical transcription for at home employment. There are so many online courses out there. Career Step is quite expensive and does not give credit for nursing experience. Tempted by MTrans for Nurses. Can anyone recommend an accredited online course that would help me find decent transcription employment at home opportunities. Thank you in advance for any help. Kate ...
Does anyone have any information about a company called "At Home Professions"? i attended a seminar presented by that company to learn more about medical transcription as a profession. I was impressed by the information and the materials but want to hear from someone who has taken their course. Is the company credible?
Thanks! ...
I've been reading these posts about the trinket trash as one person called it (good name) that MTs are receiving from their employers. My employer sent nothing, which if you think about it is less insulting than some of the garbage that has been sent out.
The whole issue reminded me of something, I couldn't think what, until it finally dawned on me. It's like the white man giving the Native Americans trinkets and baubles for their assistance or their land or the ...
