angles. Workshops put on by our local AHIMA, bootcamp as we get closer, doing some online education that is provided, all of which provide CEUS, and also doing some of our own homegrown work.
Much the same... - Wondering

That sounds similar to what we have. There have been local programs from both AHIMA and AAPC. We have several who took the AHIMA instructor course, so now we have a formal program using those materials. We also offer online courses and have had some homegrown, as well.
I am looking for work and notice some companies ask for a salary history. I feel uncomfortable about this, not sure why, but I think it is to their advantage to know this info, not mine. In my case, I worked for my last company for 5 years with one raise and the companies before that are ancient history. How would one handle this. I am not even sure if I have that info on some of my companies. Why do they want this info? ...
I have been doing MT for over four years now and have been working for other MTSOs. I am now ready to try to get my own contracts and have been doing lots of research, but what I can't seem to find out is who is responsible for providing a HIPAA agreement, me or the doctor (covered entity). I found on the Department of Health & Human Services website some sample contract language, but I'm just not clear if I need to put language in my contract with the doctor to cover this , or if the ...
I have noticed that there is a lot of fear among workers here when it comes to reporting any suspected illegal or even unethical activity on the part of their employer. Therefore, I will put you onto a tool that might help. It's called TOR and it was developed by the US Government to help people in places like Iran post on line without fear of repercussions from oppressive governments. This tool not only allows people to browse the Internet annonymously, it allows users to ...
Even though I just let my AHDI membership expire, I was still due one more issue of their journal, Plexus, which I received today. In previous issues, I always scanned the "Employers Guide" pages in the back of the journal, and there were many employers listed - at least two pages' worth. This newest issue, however, lists only seven. Perhaps the rest went overseas? ...
I have been an MT for about 4 years now. I have been working with one employer doing speech editing transcribing 3200 lines per 8-hour shift. However, I just received a 2nd job from a different employer working part-time and they pay more. My question is one employer needs my computer to have Word 2003 on it for their program to work and the other employer needs my computer to have Word 2007. How can I do both jobs at the same time. Has anyone done this before and i ...
Dear Employer:
Please make client sheets clear. I am so tired of reading a client sheet over and over trying to understand how something is supposed to be done. There's got to be a better way. Don't put information in one area of the client sheet and then an exception to the rule somewhere else. I read through the instructions until I find what I need, if there is an exception to the rule it should be where the rule is, not somewhere else in the instructi ...
Are the rest of you as disgusted as I am with not hearing back after sending an application? Are all these ads for work just made up to look like there are jobs when in reality the ads are fakes? I hear from so many other MTs/editors that they apply for jobs but never hear back, even after receiving permisson to do testing. Maybe we should all stop applying and let them sit and spin! ...
Has anyone here turned down a job with an MTSO because their platform is crappy?
My employer's platform is TERRIBLE!! You have go through 15 mouse commands (no hot keys!) to perform the simplest function such as signing off a job. I have never seen more inefficient software in my life!! Of course, since they own it now they claim it's the greatest thing since sliced bread....
Would love to hear your platform stories!! ...
To apply for a job as a Medical Language Specialist employers prefer that your training was acquired from Career Step, Penn Foster, The Andrews School and others. I acquired my training from Professional Career Development Institute, The School of Medical Transcription. Did anyone find a job after graduating from this institute? ...
It was not bad enough for them to let me go without any kind of notice, but now they will not tell DHS how long I worked for them so I can get food stamps!! Thanks DSG!!! ...
Hello fellow MT's! I was wondering if anyone knew of any companies hiring MT's with 1 year exp? I have been an IC for a company since October 2011 and am having trouble finding another company to work for (I want to supplement this income). Thanks!
P.S.
I've already tried M*Modal. ...
So I graduated in February and began the job hunt. Finally I receive one call back from a local company. To date I have attended two seperate interviews. The second time I was supposed to test but the computer was not working so a couple of weeks later they schedule testing at one of the transcriptionist house. I test and the computer freezes up. Luckily the test is recovered the next day and sent to the boss for review. Get another call today, and am told that ...
at home for MTSOs? Some ads seem to want X-number of years of RECENT on-site MT experience. Others don't say that, but with so many failed job applications this past year, even for areas that I've specialized in for 20 years, I'm getting no interest, and often no replies at all. In addition to having more than 20 years' experience, do you think these employers have a problem with work-at-home MTs? Like maybe they see us as undisciplined, poorly trained ...
This is kind of an embarassing question, but when you send your resumes out to companies, do a majority of them simply not contact you to say "thanks anyway" if they are either not hiring or do not want to hire you? I've sent my resume out to a dozen and have only gotten one "not hiring right now " reply. ...
Unless your compensation plan is based on audio minutes or report page, "paid by line" doesn't mean anything to job seekers other than tedium on both sides of the hiring process. How many characters are in your line? ...

This is an interesting read by ALANA SEMUELS, of the McClatchy-Tribune.
Here is an excerpt, but please follow the link to the full story. Sound familiar?
"The relentless drive for efficiency at U.S. companies has created a new harshness in the workplace. In their zeal to make sure that not a minute of time is wasted, companies are imposing rigorous performance quotas, forcing many people to put in extra ...
I don't know where they get all of their silly ideas, one new, amazing idea after another. You would think they would look back at the last several silly ideas they've had that didn't work and use some common sense, but that doesn't happen.
It's always the idea to end all ideas, but those ideas never end well.
Just a vent. ...
Unfortunately, I have failed to contact the IT Departments of companies on-line I have worked for transcribing medical dictation after I have left their organizations and asked them how to remove their software. How do I identify and remove any old software from these companies? They don't seem to mind their software is on my computer, but I think it is probably time to delete it. I am having trouble reaching these people as some of the companies are no longer in business ...
I've been an LPN for 20 years and want to learn medical transcription for at home employment. There are so many online courses out there. Career Step is quite expensive and does not give credit for nursing experience. Tempted by MTrans for Nurses. Can anyone recommend an accredited online course that would help me find decent transcription employment at home opportunities. Thank you in advance for any help. Kate ...
I've been reading these posts about the trinket trash as one person called it (good name) that MTs are receiving from their employers. My employer sent nothing, which if you think about it is less insulting than some of the garbage that has been sent out.
The whole issue reminded me of something, I couldn't think what, until it finally dawned on me. It's like the white man giving the Native Americans trinkets and baubles for their assistance or their land or the ...
... providing high quality care OR high-quality care.
I did it one way and the dictating NP says it should be the other way. I have to do it her way but I would appreciate hearing from some fellow MT professionals.
Thanks for any input.

I am considering an online school to learn Medical Transcription. What does the future look like for upcoming MT's? With all the medical changes coming, would this be a career to consider? Thanks for any help!

I am a mom of 3 boys with a lot of secretarial experience. I have taken several college courses recently including Anatomy&Physiology, Medical Terminology, Medical Transcription and Advanced but cannot find a job. Everyone looks for experience. I am in the process of applying to Everett Community College for their certificate. I would love opinions from current MTs regarding your opinion on beginning this career. Is it still a good option? I hear so many differing opinions on the future. Do ...
How long does training takes? How long do they give you to get up to speed, meaning getting your required lines in. Do they pay a shift differential? ...
Anyone know how long you are supposed to get training pay?
Came back to company for some extra $$ and thought I was told this is a 90 day thing, but 2nd paycheck was on production pay though I am still 100% QA?
Anyone have any suggestions on this? I am so confused now. ...
hello... I'm looking for opinions and advice from MTs as to where I should get my MT training. Where do most MT companies like their MTs to have their MT training? Thank you

I am still in training, but was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on the software and or equipment I could go ahead and purchase to help me get through my training more smoothly. My dictation at this time is on a CD disk and wondered if a foot petal would help me at this point.
Thanks,
