Your Dictators % Accuracy? - Rose

I just checked the accuracy of one of our best ESL dictators after editing. He has 28% accuracy.

Total words: 350. Total errors: 64 (words and punctuation). This was a full page of report.

I wonder what the average accuracy is for your dictators? How low a figure will they settle for allowing in the patient records?

I'm sick and tired of listening to crap and trying to make it 100% perfect! SM - MT56

I wonder if the clients ever get to see what hits the screen. Do they know how bad it is?

Dictated the primary care doctors name and her location, which ASR transcribed as "she's up on his organ".

It just floors me that these software developers could convince the hospitals that they are ready for this. A blatant disregard for patient records!

I just started working for a small MTSO, and she made the comment to me that she expects 99.(% accuracy. I would hear "which," or whatever and transcribed according to what I heard the doctor saying. Grammar was corrected, punctuation was corrected, NONE of which affected patient care. Just my 2 cents, but I think this whole business, both medical and legal has gotten out of hand with the rate of pay and what is expected.

Just got a chance to look at the post and it SHOULD have read 99.9% accuracy -- grr, long day!

yet it still always capitalizes aspirin. It still cannot differentiate "he" and "she" or "2" "to" "two" or "too".

Does the health care profession understand what they are allowing to happen is like taking away a carpenter's hammer, replacing it with a twig so it takes twice as long to do the work while cutting his pay in half???

I think it must depend on what is used on the back end. The system we use, Powerscribe 360, which is Dragon, definitely knows the difference between 2, two, to and too. I never have to change those.

Different dictators have different issues. For some reason, when one dictates it never picks up the word "node". For another they clearly dictate ascend and it puts descend.

But again, I can make all the changes in the world and the system does not learn. Only when the doc makes the change on his end as he/she is dictating does the system learn.

The system does not learn when we edit. It's past the point of learning once it leaves the dictators hand.

So, not sure if it this way with all systems, but our editing does nothing to "train" the brain behind the VR.

Personally, I'm glad it does not learn. I get to keep my job. :)

On the account I work I'd say only about one dictator in 20 can achieve 99% accuracy with VR without editing. This doesn't surprise me in the least. I've made lots of 100% accuracy scores, but I just saw that I made a 3.0 Critical error on a VR dictation at Nuance. It was where the doctor said a medication amt that sounded very much like another amount. I have been extremely careful with the medication amounts and the laboratory values, but made this mistake!! Very shortly our accuracy requirement will be 99.6%. Since this company cares nothing about accuracy, my conclusion is two-fold: 1) As they always have, they are going to use this as a marketing tool. 2) Anyone who falls below 99.6% will have their pay docked thus reducing the company's labor costs even further and will probably result in administrative bonuses. I started at Nuance about a month ago. I am a new MT, graduated from CareerStep with Honors at 94%. I've been transcribing for 2.5 weeks now. I have quite a bit of anxiety because my QC scores are not improving, sometimes even getting worse. I seem to have troubles with numbers in particular. I downloaded FlashCount and love the ease of use. However, it gives a count which is slightly higher than when I manually do it in Word by dividing characters with spaces by 65. Is there a way to adjust the settings in FlashCount so it will give me the same count. I wonder if it is counting things like bold, etc. Or, is there another counting program that will count batches of files and do it accurately? It need not be freeware. I will pay for it. Years ...

A friend of mine works at Nuance (formerly worked at Transcend, but of course Nuance is gobbling up every MTSO) and said they require 99% accuracy. And rather than an average, they run the accuracy on every single report so that even though, for example, 5 reports may be 100% accurate, if one is 98%, you're screwed. I've been thinking about line count. To figure if Nuance line counts are correct, just go to the eScription's old reports and do a search for 1 day of your own reports. Then, just copy and pasted them in to word. Then do a line count. Wouldn't that work? ...
