Would like to hear your experience with Radiology going to Epic/EMR..sm - Outtaheretoo

I'm about to take a job offer (radiology) but I was also offered a regular 9-to-5 recently as well. Kind of leary of the transcription, but I was told the hospital has no intentions of going to VR or EMR (we all know this could change at any given moment). I'd like to hear anything regarding how well radiology does with EMR.

Huh? Isn't it a government mandate that healthcare facilities including hospital have to be on EMR by 2014?

I think the OP meant "point and click" EMR. EMR itself just means electronic medical record.

I'm aware of the timing as well (2014), but just thought I'd milk it for all it's worth and simultaneously be developing an idea that I have in the meantime.

I wanted to know if there's anyone out there who recently experienced their radiology account going to EMR.

It is federally mandated or the amount of reimbursement they get from Medicare (and Medicaid) is reduced. Our hospital sent the entire transcription out to VR. It put 17 MTs out of work with no notice. Very sad.

start using hospital ER's for their regular healthcare, and just stiff them on the bill.

With EPIC, MTs are out of a job. - EMR replaces them

It becomes point and click. Don't ever believe anyone that says they are not going to VR or EMR--they are lying through their teeth... I started to work for a tertiary medical facility that said I had nothing to worry about. When we went live on EPIC, they started laying people off, and I was on the list to go first. They LIED. Don't believe them--they only need you until they go live.

DQS completely and the hospital will drop MQ. Just curious about that. It seems Epic is the way to go and was not sure if that can be interspersed with DQS or eliminate MQ altogether with DQS. ...

I am a new graduate and need to find a job! I am also new to this site. I got the site info from a friend that has been doing transcription work for many years. She has given me some leads, but as of now, nothing! It appears that most of these companies wnat 2 or more years experience. Does anyone know how I can start and get some experience? The hospital I work for changed over the Editscript last year. Changeover went relatively smoothly, and we still had plenty of work to keep all the transcriptionists busy (after we stopped outsourcing the overflow we used to have). Recently, the hospital switched to Epic electronic medical record system, and within a week the transcription workload plumeted to probably 40% of our former workload --not enough to keep our transcription staff busy. It seems the doctors/nurses/etc ...
