EPIC-new EMR with no transcriptionists needed?? - itype

Hello! Just wondering if anyone has heard of "Epic" a new EMR. I work for a doctor's office and was told no need anymore for transcription. Checking to see if anyone is in the same boat I am or heard of this new EMR.

I haven't heard of that program, but EMR in general is a program where the physicians are able to push a couple buttons and complete templates are put in and very minimal typing to add any additional things. I lost my full-time job to it and the clinics in my area are transitioning to it where they are phasing out their transcriptionists as well.

I got laid off from a medical facility in July that had purchased Epic. We went from a dept of 25 to a dept. of 2. Epic is absolutely the worst EMR from a transcription point of view.

I transcribe radiology. Our clinic has gone through 2 or 3 VR systems in that department. The docs use it for a while and then go back to regular dictating, none of it has worked very well, for us it was easier to do straight transcription than edit the mess. We're going to EPIC on the clinic side in about a year. Some of the physicians have refused to use it. I guess we will still need MTs and editors but I don't know how many, we've been told to expect a reduction in staff, I'm going to hold out as long as I can and hope I can keep my rad job.

merely the electronic medical record that the typed reports ended up in, once we'd transcribed them. The doctors and nurses used EPIC to pull up patient records whenever they had one in the examining room.

It had nothing to do with transcription; it was just the end result of the transcriptionists' work.

That sounds a little more encouraging. Every situation is different so I guess I just need to be patient and wait it out, it's the best job I've ever had and I've been there forever. All the MTs at my place including me are pretty anxious about the conversion.

DQS completely and the hospital will drop MQ. Just curious about that. It seems Epic is the way to go and was not sure if that can be interspersed with DQS or eliminate MQ altogether with DQS. ...

I am training someone and I am now reminded how far I have come, how much I have learned, and the things I take for granted and assume others know. Basic things, just proper English, not even taking into consideration the medical terminology. Knowing whether a sentence makes sense or not. We really should be paid better. But it is nice to feel smart sometimes....and you know anyone who can do this job really does have to be pretty darn intelligent. Fello ...

I am now down to 3 companies (from 4) trying to make a living at this, wondering what I should do next. I'd like to go get my coding diploma and move on from there as I cannot take this anymore. I work in the path department and when a malignant case comes up that requires a CAP, I defer to the CAP summary. The docs dictate "lymphovascular . . ." but the CAP summaries will have "lymph-vascular . . ." The problem is today I was checking the CAP protocol for the Lung CA and the word was used both ways. I know this idea has been tossed around a lot but yet nothing has been done about it (to my knowledge - if someone knows different, please correct me). HI all, I could've sworn I read this somewhere that medical transcriptionists - even the REMOTE ones WORKING AT HOME ! - are REQUIRED by some employers to get annual flu shots. Is this true??
