This is working for an MTSO who only hires full-time employees, but yet again NJA most of the day today. We do not have to punch a time clock, but is this really legal? This company may "route" you jobs at any time of day and they require you to be "available" from 7 AM to 5 PM, whether there is work or not. If the work is routed to you though, you best be there (available) to do the work or else you get the nasty grams from the owner. Again, IS THIS LEGAL?

You could work at a movie theater and make more and get free movies. Just unreal and so unfair what these companies are paying MTs.

The MTSO I work for 'makes up' the difference between your piece rate and minimum wage. I figure that, if they can afford supplement our wages, they are making plenty of money off us; they have plenty left to line their pockets!!

The Transcend lawsuit involves not paying the minimum. As the lawsuits poor in, MTSOs are getting more clever at using the law to abuse the workers and walk the line between legal and illegal.

There is only one solution, run, don't walk. What ever happened to the glory days out of high school when we just "left?" Why are so many people obsessed with fairness in life? It is a Hollywood invention. And who has the time to crank on this forum unless they're paid well? It's called - turning off everything around you and WORKING, like you would as a WalMart greeter.

I researched the law and found it in the federal law. If you were working inhouse, you would have to be paid, but as a telecommuter, you don't have to be paid for waiting for work because you are considered able to do other things (ya right!). It's called waiting to be engaged for telecommuters, i.e. waiting for work to start, while, for inhouse employees, it's called engaged in waiting, i.e. you are already at work and confined to those premises. The government thinks that, just because telecommuters are at home, they can be doing laundry, housework, et cetera while an inhouse worker can't. Really sucks bad.

I can't really say to you "get another job", because we are all being legally abused for a pittance. This is why I am reluctantly leaving MT'ing and going to school for a job that can only be done in person. Easy ideas are coding and legal transcription, but they are both in the same situation we were many years ago and heading towards are current situation. Although, it is still questionable about the legality of legal transcription going offshore due to legal requirements. If I typed faster, I would do legal transcription.

No - actually, it may NOT be legal when - required to be on-call.

These @#$S**!! MTSO's get away with murder because WE do not know labor law. If you are REQUIRED to be "on call", YOU MUST USUALLY BE PAID, especially if being "on call" means that you ARE RESTRICTED FROM DOING OTHER NORMAL ACTIVITIES OF DAILY LIVING.

I've worked at a hospital doing transcription and getting an hourly wage, and I've also done transcription at home. At-home was not a good experience for me. I about went bankrupt, but the good thing is that I have more experience now. I'm trying to decide whether to go back to a hospital and get an hourly pay or work from home again... Aside from erasing the ASR text and typing the entire report myself, how can I know that the system is saving my changes? I am absolutely certain that changes I made are not being saved, and thus showing up as errors on QA reports. Some of which I am absolutely 100% certain I corrected the text, but alas the corrections are not saving. So, once again, I am completely off the grid. When I am about to send a report and it has just one blank over the allowed, I will attempt a trick I call "close it in" where I will try and find two blanks close to each other, blank out everything in between (so long as it's less than one line) and turn those 2 blanks into 1 blank, thus preventing me from having to send to QC. Okay, so they accused me of changing the dictators name on the ADT screen to an incorrect name... which I might add once again, I did not do. Some KSMTs posted they got paid today, some got paid on the 1st. This tells me this was not an issue with late line counts or the payroll guru asking them to kindly roll payroll ahead a few days. Truth has to be they do not have the money available to make payroll and had to pick and choose who to pay based on the money available.
