the phrase, " it was not covered by insurance", which is dictated constantly.

What a sad state of American healthcare. I'm sure the doctors are just as sick of insurance non-coverage of medical treatments as the poor patients are!

My hospital docs mention it seldom, so when they do - Fellow Traveller

I know it has to be a very tiny indicator of what they go through all the time. I do know it outrages me every time. Just a remote, glancing connection is good for my mental health.

"The patient is on MaineCare." (i.e. state welfare) and "The patient has no insurance."

They come up a lot, especially regarding why people are no longer taking prescribed medications or seeking followup care. Or, in the case of the first shortcut, maybe why they go to a methadone clinic or are a teen pregnancy. (Why yes, that was a mean-spirited but sadly true dig.)

I don't know where you live that you have it so much you need to make a short cut key. I have done transcription all over the states and never once have I come across anything not covered by insurance. Probably the coder or billers might have come across that, but not the MTs.

It is not a sad state of American heathcare. We have the best health care, maybe not in the world but it ranks higher than a lot of other countries.

And while not to the extent that I would create a short cut key, many is the time that I have typed that a prescription was not filled because it was not covered by insurance, that they needed a different rx because what was given was not covered, that tests were not performed because they were not covered, that they did not see a consulting physician because insurance did not cover it.

And that's the ones that have insurance. An equal number have all the same things that they can't do but for the reason that they don't have insurance at all.

So, yeah, healthcare is great here, if you can afford it. If not for typing it, though, I would have no personal experience of how good it it.

I was wrong. I have typed before that the doc was prescribing a different med because one was not covered by insurance.

Eeeks...now that I think about it I have typed that a doc is doing a different procedure because one was not approved by insurance.

MY BAD....I WAS WRONG! I'm sorry. I just don't type it that often, but I do stand corrected.

Still our medical system is still one of the best.

I refer anyone who believes we have a great health care "system" to the 2009 study by the Harvard Medical School and Cambridge Health Alliance last year revealing 45,000 DEATHS annually in OUR country directly related to LACK OF INSURANCE, and growing. This is a moral issue.

That's deaths only, not destruction of health, not dreadful suffering, not economic disaster changing people permanently from middle class homeowners to impoverished renters, as well as onto the public dole. For those last three the numbers, are far, far higher.

The study also showed that middle-aged uninsured people have a 40% higher chance of dying than insured people. In 2008 the % uninsured was over 47 million, and it's rising every year.

Yes, our health care equals the best found in any other country; but only for those with access.

For people who disagree this is a moral issue, it's also an issue for those who put pride in country high on their list. Ill health is a major cause of poverty. People will impoverish themselves to save their lives. Our average population age continues to rise. In future, without a system that made health care available to everyone, the number of poor people in this country would continue to grow and grow and grow, the middle class would continue to shrink, and the US would cease to be a model the rest of the world cared to copy.

In fact, I'm transcribing many more letters from our docs to insurance companies imploring them to pay for meds and/or procedures.

Does anyone know the shortcut for typing the same thing right below something else - such as preop dx, if dr says postop dx is the same. I remember being able to use 2 keys to insert the same thing again. I was using an old version of Shortcut for Windows and it was working nicely on my old puter. I got a new puter for Christmas (Thanks to my hubby - I think he wants me to type faster/more!) and I can't find my disk to load the Shortcut software onto the new puter - I'm not even sure it would work on Windows 8. Hi all, Any MTs who work on Editscript. Do you use the shortcuts recommeded by the program or do you do your own workaround and remap keys or use Shorthand to map a different key to do the same or a combination of key commands. I tried using shorthand to overide the other key commands in Editscript and it will not let me. I've used the ShortCut expansion program for 13 years so I'd hate to have to change now, but I'm having a problem with my expansions popping out ever since I installed Word 2010. They actually come out in slow motion, so slowly that I have a paragraph typed and only two or so words will be expanded. I call the telephone number on my program disc and they said that the company that developed Shortcut for Windows had been bought out by Superior Global but that they were allowed to provide tech support for Shortcut. They were able to get mine to work with Windows 7 and M/S Word on the new computer but said that Shortcut would not be able to go past Windows 7 and that I should start looking for another word expander and start transferring short forms or macros over now while I have time. ...

I just started an account using EditScript today and I can't seem to get my Sylvan ShortCut program to work with it. It works sometimes and not others and very slowly, showing one letter at a time. I already tried excluding it from my Avast antivirus (I think I did it right) and it seemed better for a minute and then right back to the same thing. Does anybody know if there is a keyboard shortcut to get back to the beginning of the audio? With 6.whatever you just went back to the beginning of the text and then did control m to put the audio there and went to the beginning because of the skip markers, now with no skip marker, it only goes back to where the actual report starts, not the beginning of the ADT, if it will go back at all. I like 7 way better in all other aspects, but having to manually slide the audio back over with ...
