I get paid by the line. I can't understand why they make me stick to 40 hours. I can't get enough lines in in 40 hours to make a decent living wage. Does anyone know of a company (not IC) that just lets me work as much as I want?

Transcend lets you work more, but you can only state you have worked 40 hours. They are flexible with time clock 12 hour window to work 8 hours.

Some people cannot make enough to live on with 4 cents VR pay in 8 hours. It is an unwritten assistance to try and make enough money to live on working a little more than 8 hours and not putting down. I as everyone else need to make a certain amount of money to live on.

My supervisors will authorize overtime if there's a lot of work out of TAT. However, I have NEVER been told to lie, and in fact, I have been told to keep honest time.

However, having said that... unless someone sat down and very carefully audited somebody's completed jobs, the times they were uploaded, and then compared that to the reported time, one could conceivably work as many hours as one wanted to without reporting overtime.

All the team leads and ROMs I have worked with have been FAR too busy with other things to do anything like that, though.

that allows her to see every day whether we have either been working off the clock or being clocked in without working. I don't know if it's true but that's what she said. She said she'd be notifying those who broke the rules. It's ridiculous to pay people a piece rate and then limit their time worked.

That is completely illegal. They are just ripping you off if this is truly what is going on. If they believe the MTs need to be able to make more money, then maybe they need to up their rates to a liveable wage. No one should be allowing this to happen and you should be reporting ALL your hours. This is exactly why these companies get away with this. Because their MTs just roll over and take it.

Does it make you feel better to cut someone down. The poster wanted to know where she could work and not be clocked. So you work a little more than 8 hours -- or who knows maybe your kid is crying and sick you need to jump away from computer every 20 minutes or so to console the baby or breast feed or who knows what -- I would hate to work a place that clocks you for all your moves or could monitor this. I probably work less than 8 hours some days, but I have the flexibility of a 12 hour shift to do this, so maybe it is 7 hours one day 9 the next. Maybe good dictators all day, maybe bad. I just know how many lines I need a day to make the living I need.

I don't care if people flex their hours here and there to take care of their kids whatever. It really doesn't matter as long as they are still working 40 hours a week. What I have a problem with is the poster above that said the company was offering "assistance" by allowing them to work overtime off the clock. Do you really think this is helping the MT? People on here complain about constantly about low pay, but why should we ever be paid a living wage when there are others out there willing to work overtime without getting paid extra for it?

I stand by what I said. This is ILLEGAL. I guess I don't get the mindset that some MTs have that are so thankful to their companies when in fact their companies are cheating them.

I'm glad to see someone else say that Transcend is so open about telling us to lie on our time clocks so they don't have to catch us up on minimum wage if we don't hit it with our horrible line rate, or if we are getting overtime. I keep all the email I receive asking me to adjust my time. One, I refuse to adjust every time. Two, I will alert the Dept. of Labor if they keep it up.

I hope you rat them out. Some of these folks are past masters at cheating the MT. This unpaid OT is a very serious matter--it is a federal offense, in fact. Can anyone say "Class Action?"

What are you waiting for? Report these people now. You have already admitted what is going on. Don't wait for someone else to do it. These folks need to be put out of business. Even if you are not going along with what they ask you to do (which is illegal), what makes you think their dishonesty will stop there? You need to report this pronto.

I believe MedQuist got busted for this a few years back. I do know that even though we are paid production, they have to make sure you are hitting minimum wage, otherwise they have to make up the difference, which is why the use the time clock. What's funny about it, at least with my company, if it looks like you aren't hitting minimum wage they will actually email you and tell you to adjust what you put in the system. Completely criminal. I keep these emails too. You never know when you might need to alert the govt to illegal labor activity.

Yes. I have a 3 hour span which I have to work. Mine is from 5 a.m. to 8 a.m. The rest is mine. I can decide not to work the rest of the day or work as many hours as I want. All they ask is that we get 5000 lines a week.

My company was honest and upfront when we started using ChartNet. They told us that once you enter a report for VR, the time clock does not actually start for 60 seconds. It is my understanding from an attorney that if we are required to sit and wait for the work that is considered time worked. Keystrokes wants us to keep track of ONLY the time spent typing, any time spent NOT typing is NOT considered as time working according to them. You would have to rack up a lot of time just typing to get in those 40 hours in order to get paid overtime. The truth is KS is being sued for not paying overtime. KS does not have time records and that is why it is being implemented now. I myself know overtime pay was not offered for anyone taking extra hours on my account. I also have e-mails to that effect. KS has not always paid overtime and if it was given it was to a select few or favorites. Used to work for Transcend and loved that you input your own time card. You could put down 8 hours even if it took you 10 to make your lines/$. Sorry to see employees will now have to use that same stupid clock we all do. Not hard, just a pain in the (&*&.
