Am I the only one that feels this way??? Tell me, please, how do they expect us to make a living when they are paying squat to keep their cost of service down??

they do expect that and they do expect people to work for peanuts on voice recognition and they will continue to use it and pay you peanuts until you refuse to do it.
so did you refuse to do it? and how much are you making now??? - TexasT

or are you not working in this field anymore?
I did refuse - sm

to do it, am still in this field and am making quite a bit more than minimum wage and no I'm not a liar.
I refused too - sm - SingularJoy

I refused too. After getting tired of making $3.00-$4.00 an hour at my last two MT jobs (with 30 years experience as an MT) - as employees, which I'm sure is illegal - I found that I was able to go back to school on a full grant because I made so little money. At the age of 50, I enrolled in the University of Phoenix. I obtained my Associates Degree at 52 and immediately got a job in a completely different field making 125% more to start. I found that I loved school so much that I stayed. I'm one year away from a Bachelors in IT and at that time will begin my Masters in Information Systems.
Refusing worked for me. It will work for you too.
Full grant? Nice. Can you tell us how you received your grant? - Thank you n/m

If you work as an MT then it's likely your salary is so low that you are near the poverty level or below. This makes you eligible for financial assistance for college. Call up your university of interest and apply for financial aid. That's what I did.
Good for you - sm

Congratulations on your achievements. To those that say they can't do anything else, read what she did.
Another thing people keep saying on here is that VR is here to stay and I better get used to it if I want to stay in this field. Well, the people who are telling you it is here to stay are the companies making fortunes off the software and those of you that keep doing it for half the pay. If you refuse to do it, they will either increase the pay or go back to typing. I have read on here about we have to accept technology and look what happened to the telephone operators. The telephone operators did not have their pay cut in half when technology took over. In most jobs where technology has taken it is done so people can be more productive but not have their pay cut in half like with VR. If you want to accept this, go for it. If not, just say no!

I just got approved for governmental benefits (food stamps and state health insurance) because my pay has gone so low with Medquist. I've been so preoccupied with keeping a roof over my and my son's head and keeping food in our stomachs that the idea of applying for help to go back to school to get out of the field has totally gotten by me. Sometimes I don't even make minimum wage - I BET I would be approved for some type of grant. THANK YOU for landing a major seed in my mind - I'm going up to my local community college tomorrow to speak to someone.
Congratulations on your success ... we are all rooting for you and hope you continue onward in your studies. You are a true inspiration!

I know your pain. Thirty years in the business, and the last few made me feel desperate and hopeless, like I wasn't worth anything and couldn't do anything else. Well, you can do something else. There are 68-year-olds in my classes who are making career changes. It's never too late.
Would you mind emailing me? - sunflower

I spent a couple of years getting my Associates in Communications. Just after graduation, I got a job as an accountant of all things. I just got a call one day from an employer who was in desperate need of an accountant. I had done my own bookkeeping when I owned a transcription company, so I knew how it was done. I took the job. Now, I'm in my last year of getting a degree in IT/Web Development. When I finish next December, I'm going to getting my Masters in Information Systems. If all goes as planned, I'll complete my PhD in Information Systems the year before I turn 60.

I agree with trying something different. I am taking a shot at writing about these MT issues. I could use some input from, I guess, 3 MTs with many years of experience--like myself. Would appreciate your advice with HONEST feedback (good or bad).

Really writing about MT stuff (vampires, too), but it is part of a short-story: The Bitten and The Unbitten: Who's Your Daddy? The MT parts WILL be relative to OUR MT issues. Hmm, I guess you could Google the title to access story for some real proof. It's entertainment but not, if you know what I mean.
I don't think many with experience would accept .02 CPL. I would imaging this forces MTSOs to train newbies. I'm sure they have to pay QA far more than .04 CPL to correct and go over the work. Even if they did pay QA only .04 CPL to do this, they are paying at least .06 CPL total. By the time the new editor is sufficiently trained to go off 100% QA they have had more than enough time to realize that they will never make a living doing this kind of work, the lies ...

I did it one way and the dictating NP says it should be the other way. I have to do it her way but I would appreciate hearing from some fellow MT professionals.
Thanks for any input.

I got this email from my friend. I didn't know you could do this and have read a lot about customer service calls here so though it was interesting to post.
I want to ask each of you to consider doing the following when you are talking on the phone to any US customer service representative that is based in a foreign country (like India ). I have done this twice and it works! Any time you call an 800 number (for a credit ca ...

I have handed in my resignation effective immediately. I am so tired of hearing these foreign doctors, failing my audits and working every darn weekend. I have had enough. No, I don't have a job but I am hopeful and I will be getting my husband's SS soon. I just can't take this BS anymore.

I just spent the last 40 minutes on the phone trying to update my husband's old Net 10 cell phone to a newer model for his birthday. All I wanted to do was to keep his current cell phone number and have both it and his remaining almost 500 minutes switched to the new phone. Should be a problem, right? WRONG!!! Obviously the CS person was overseas, most likely India. She kept having computer problems and kept putting me on hold. Finally after much frustration an ...
I really want to get away from transcription, but I love working from home. I have heard a lot about customer service reps that work from home. Does anyone know annything about these jobs? I have done this type of work for a long time. Hi everyone! Last month, I posted on here that I resigned effective immediately. I had had enough of the crappy ESL doctors, the audits, the poor VR, etc., etc. I just want everyone to know there is hope. I found out today that I will be getting my husband's SS with a lump sum at the end of this month and monthly payments starting in August. The payments may be more than what I originally thought. I have also put out about 40 resumes and have only gotten one bite. that one bite is a ...
Normally, I'm very disciplined about work. I have a very stable job, very good pay, great accounts. I am just having trouble staying on task.
Mind you, I do not have to just push and push. I just need to relax and complete a report, upload it, do the next one. I can breaks when I want to.

Yep, that's my 4th within a week. Yep, just as I noted a couple weeks ago, 2 "punctuation" errors and you fail. One spelling error that I have no idea how that could make it through spell check.
