Federal Guidelines to meet for ICs under HIPAA - MTsince99

So I passed the BA Agreement, proof of liability insurance and Policies and Procedures with the company, so I may still be able to work as an IC and not an employee, but here is their response:

"You must first provide proof that you meet the Federal Guidelines to remain an IC before providing proof of insurance or policies and procedures. You can research this by doing a Google search but these guidelines MUST be met in order to remain an IC."

I already also passed the HIPAA training. What else do I need to do? I tried googling the guidelines but cannot seem to find it.....:-(

Anybody can direct me to the right path?

It seems like there is more than one company doing this to IC's. I think this is just another way to rape the MT's, not just be HIPAA compliant. Have you tried to do a Google under HITECH, because I was under the impression that this is the act that puts the teeth in HIPAA, not HIPAA itself.

Write a contract and address each of those things. Include rates, confidentiality issues, mention that you market to anyone interested in your services, that you use and maintain your own equipment, and that you agree to whatever the minimums they set forth are. Mention how you handle PHI and that you are the security officer for your company.

It's all stupid, IMO lol. I get they are trying to do some cya.

I am new at Nuance - started in Nov. I am beginning to get frustrated though cause I just can't seem to meet the minimum line counts with VR or typing. Please, someone tell me it's not just me .... Well, I have read a couple of e-mails from corporate today.  I do not know about anyone else, but they are as clear as mud.  Don't these people have anything better to do than set these guidelines?  I know a hospital where the transcription was free style and when MQ took over THEY decided to have one format.  Like it changes anything.  Talk about control freaks! ...
