How many of you HAVE to work 2 jobs to make ends meet? - Just Curious

Two full time...one is a split shift and I work the first half from 9-11, then I work the other one from 11 until done, usually around 7 or so, and then from 8 to about 2 am (need that hour break to grab dinner, play with the dogs, check on the horse, etc.)
Everyone I know is either retired, working for themselves 10-12 hrs/day or - working more than 1 job

This is the world we apparently live in these days. I don't look for it to get better any time soon.
I am just thinking about all my friends. They do seem to either be retired, if they can afford to retire these days, or working more than one job. Then there are those who work on commission or have their own businesses and they work all the time, 7 days/week it seems, and have no life.
What ever happened to the easy life we had a few years ago. I'm ready for it again. Did anyone watch that movie "Wall Street" where Greko or whatever his name is gives the speech on how "Greed is good." That movie was made during the time when everybody was living high on the hog. Things are sure different now, aren't they?

I work a full time job, at 12 to 14 hours per day, and a part time job maybe 3 to 4 hours per day. I am also currently looking for another full time or part time job with a "reputable" company that actually pays their MTs and pays more than 7 cpl. This is getting difficult to find. The only responses I have been getting are at 7 cpl or they have a bad reputation already for not paying their MTs. It is getting very discouraging, to say the least, but I have to do this in order to make ends meet. I do not have a spouse, live in boyfriend, significant other or anybody else to help with the bills. It is just me trying to take care of me, and it is hard all alone.
me, too - dln

I also have to work 2 jobs (technically 1-1/2 jobs! LOL!), one is as a full-time employee (40 hours a week) and the other is as an IC, and I generally tend to work for her about 5 to 10 hours a week. I am single with no kids to support, but it's still sometimes difficult to make ends meet!
This past month has been even more difficult than most months as everything seemed to be due at once, you know all of those bills you pay once a year? Renter's insurance, car registration, AAA membership, etc., not to mention the "regular" monthly bills, car payment, rent, utilities, etc.!! Only 4 more months until my car is finally paid off, thank goodness!!!!
I used to work 4 jobs-1 MTSO and 3 of my own accounts - Backwards Typist

plus mix and match of regular typing letters, resumes, manuscripts, fiction books, mailing labels for a business, etc., and at inventory time, my old company that I used to work for would call me in to help.
Did all that for 27 years and finally burned out. I now only have 2 accounts, 1 who is retiring soon (I hope), and the full time MTSO, but I'm thinking of looking again 'cause I'm just not making it on what's being paid lately.
If that's the way you look at it, I have - 5 jobs.

I work a FT coding job and PT MT. We could get by without the second but could not afford to do anything except pay the bills. Plus I keep up my skills in both areas. Neither of these jobs requires a set schedule, just 40 hours a week of coding and 5000 lines for the MT. I know I am really lucky in that regard plus in that we could get by with just one job, and I wish that everyone could have those options. I do know many people who are seriously struggling even with two jobs, and I just think that something is so very wrong in this world when hardworking people can't be assured a decent living.

CJ, you are doing what I want to do. I currently do MT 40 hours per week and am taking a coding class. When I get finished I want to do both to keep my skills in both areas but hopefully still no more than 40 hours per week.

I couldn't find anyone who wanted parttime so had to take 2 full time positions. I do have Saturdays off most of the time. The other 6 days I'm busy busy busy.
I thankfully just got a second job... - BF is still laid off (going on 2 years)

I have been applying for jobs for months and months... I finally got hired as a casino dealer. It's probably just for the summer months, but it's something for now. Without the BF working it's extremely hard... he's in a field that's gone for now. (Electrician...just read an article about how these jobs are probably never comin back) We have to really think about what he's going to do... go back to school with his GI bill is our first choice probably, but he will be in his mid-30s by the time he gets a degree...
It's just really tough right now, and like someone said below, we are good hard working people but about to lose our house after losing about 75% of our income combined :(
Oh well. we still have our life and love right.

Ends In -rhagia Mar 19, 2011GI consult and doc says this "patient has no hematemesis, s/o menorrhagia, or bright red blood per rectum." This is an 80-year-old man, so it cANNOT be menorrhagia. Unemployment Unexpectedly Ends, Still No Job. Sm Nov 16, 2010Just some history: I have been in denial for over a year thinking that I would easily get another job after being with MQ for nine years. Ha! I resisted going into another field as I really love transcribing and everything medical in general, also a former RN 25 years ago. I have gotten a few offers for IC at a ridiculous rate and declined. Mostly, I have not gotten even a response when applying for a position.
Now comes my belated rude awakening wi ...

Can't Seem To Meet The Minimum Line Counts Dec 30, 2012I am new at Nuance - started in Nov. I am beginning to get frustrated though cause I just can't seem to meet the minimum line counts with VR or typing. Please, someone tell me it's not just me .... I know they give you 3 months to "get up to speed", but I don't think that is going to be long enough for me at the rate I am going. Federal Guidelines To Meet For ICs Under HIPAA Sep 09, 2013So I passed the BA Agreement, proof of liability insurance and Policies and Procedures with the company, so I may still be able to work as an IC and not an employee, but here is their response:

I already also passed the HIPAA training. What e ...
Wow! Accounts Have Little Work And Did Not Meet Minimum Mar 30, 2015wage average for this week. :o Even as a newbie I always met minimum wage and I now have 16 years under my belt, 8 on this platform and account. Hard To Meet 6500 Lpw Line Count At Webmedx Now. What Gives? Aug 10, 2011Ever since we been taken over by Nuance, and I've had to type my main account on the native platform, I can't seem to pick up line counts no matter how fast or how hard I try. It's very frustrating. They raised the line count to 6500 lines per week from when I first started 2 years ago of 5000. I used to be able to type a lot more. Been an MT for more than 10 years now. I feel something weird going on. ...
Just Another Vent About Jobs, No Jobs, Requirement Of Jobs, Etc. Aug 18, 2010It is insulting to all of us with the way that MT pay has gone down the drain, it is frustrating and aggravating to look for a "decent" job these days, trying to work out which companies will treat you fairly, which ones lie about their platforms, work, etc., and not only do these companies not want to pay us what we are worth but now I see that MANY companies are requiring the MT to have or "be willing" to purchase hundreds of dollars worth of equipment. If an employer can PROMISE IN ...

Worried About Being Able To Even Make What I Used To Make Doing Apr 11, 2011I seem to be spending an awful lot of time in VR documents, so I am confused as to why I am getting paid less for them.
