Does anyone know what the AVERAGE transcriptionst makes per hour? Most are paid per line now, but I am just wondering what people are earning per hour. I am a transcriptionst working for an orthopedist. I have 15+ years experience and have been working with this company for a few years now. I am currently being paid 13.90 per hour. I am an independent contractor, so no benefits, PTO, 401K, etc. For some reason I just feel like I am being paid very low considering my years of experience and that I am his ONLY transcriptionist, so have quite a bit of responsibility.

Anyway, just drop me a line if any of you think this is reasonable or if you think I am being paid on the low scale. Thanks so much......its much appreciated!

These days we are lucky to make minimum wage. The programs and companies are such that they now are capable of limiting the amount of money we can make (unless of course we are freakishly fast and accurate and willing to work much longer days than 8 hours). I used to make $18 to $20 per hour on average, now make $8. Stick with your doc.

Hourly pay - In House MT

I work in house, the lowest paid in my group is at $19.50 and the highest is at $25.50 an hour. We range from 5 years exp to 20 years exp.

We also have great bennies, paid days off, insurance, profit sharing, etc.

There are days I want to quit, but I know I'll never find a gig as good as this one.

Average pay per hour as IC - ANON

IC who pays my own insurance. I earn on the low scale lower than that (new surgeons on bad phones to $40-50 per hour on dictated reports to $100 per hour or more (huge expensive setup) BEFORE EXPENSES. My former classmates earn more, but they pick up tapes, print, and return and cater to physicians in other areas.

I have enough issues in my life and work. For gosh sakes, my mother is dying, so please no more nasty comments. I am only trying to help others.

Anyway, anon, if you are reading this, I guess people don't really find your posts helpful because the instructions are too vague to duplicate (get your own clients, make templates) and also a lot of people feel you are bragging. You know, and if most people think you are bragging, well maybe you should stop and ask yourself if it's true.

I was making around that but the practice went to EMR. I was making 10 cpl per gross line including blank lines. I was rolling in the dough. Seriously. I believe you.

Yes, I am on the board looking for help, but I instead of MTs wanting work, they want to bash me instead.

Some accounts are more lucrative than others... Some service providers step up and demand dictators speak clear and use good phones...

I was just wondering your best estimate of how many minutes of dictation you can do per hour/day. My manager is calculating that the average MT can do 100 minutes of dictation per day. This seems very low to me since I can usually do at least 20 minutes of dictation per hour with a mix of traditional typing and VR (more typing than VR). Am I just an anomaly? ...

Am considering applying with Nuance. Have worked with the M*Modal speech engine before and know that Escription is superior but how much better is what I wonder.
