The account I work has a ton of untrained young dictators who never learned what a pause button was, and half barely speak English, requiring restructuring of most sentences. They think it is fine to blabber through the ROS and PE since it always comes back perfect (after a ton of research to decipher it) and don't think it is necessary to say more at the end than "CC Matahadavadah. They don't say "Doctor" first so you don't know if it is a last name, first & last, or what their title should be. This particular name would take 14 different searches, for all the ways the name could be divided to a first and last, if it is two names. That's 14 searches in the doctor roster & Google. The other bad habit is that they do not use a pause button while they have dinner, review a patient history, or drive through the car wash. We can only edit as fast as the words come out. Last night I had to wait 3+ minutes for the first word!

So, I get this warning that my hours turned in must not be correct as it should have only taken 1/3rd that time to edit the volume of lines I had.

I have explained what takes so long, how it can be corrected on the dictator's end, and asked them to advise what duties they wanted me to continue doing, i.e. search until I can fill in a blank or just spend a few seconds looking for a doctor's name and then sent all this crap to QA? What DO they expect us to do?

I'm curious, do any MTSOs actually tell you that you will not be paid for your research, checking email, responding to their email, etc. when you are employee status? Has anyone been fired for not making minimum wage when it is not their fault?

I was blamed one time while at MM for making min. wage. As I am not the type to suffer fools, I quit. I could see exactly where they were going with that tactic. No, MTSOs do not tell you how much time you will be spending correcting mistakes made by dictators. MTSOs will never tell the truth about how impossible it is to make any money working for them. They will only tell you how wonderful and easy VR has made it for transcriptionists and how you can produce a massive amount of reports because all you have to do is use the control and function keys. Bottom line: MTSOs know that they are sending you crappy work and that you will not be able to make your line count. MT is a complete waste of time. If you are able, get out now.

One MTSO told me to change my time card because my hours didn't match my line count. I was still making well over minimum wage, but that wasn't good enough for them for whatever reason. I told them that forcing me to change my time card was illegal as my hours reported were correct. My mentor then sent me an email saying that I was not to be doing laundry, childcare, taking phone calls, etc., on work time. I found her tone totally demeaning. I am a professional and treat my job as a job. I was working overnight just so I could work without distraction and work while the rest of my family slept. I ended up leaving the second time they made the demand of me to change my time card. If they are doing even one thing illegally, what other laws are they willing to break? Not going to work for crooked companies that treat their employees like doormats.

On the platform, Fluency, there was no way to make barely minimum wage most days.

Since I had a week or 2 earlier asked about going PT, they let me do that, which I did until I could get another job. AND I got partial unemployment in the meantime!

I do have emails they have sent telling us to do certain duties but to make sure it is not during our regular shift. In other words you have to do this but you won't be paid.

I know what they are up and that is trying to avoid minimum wage violations. There is no way you can make over minimum wage on lousy dictators and in 30 years of doing this work I have never heard such horrid dictation. One I did tonight I ended up making $2.80 per hour!

As compared to the total medical transcription work of US, the portion of MT work outsourced for India is very less it seems. Some are blaming offshoring of MT work to India as a cause of cheaper pay rates for US MTs. But the fact is different. I was fired. I started with Medquist in 1998. They fired me in 1997. I was hired and Spheris and became a Medquist employee after they bought Spheris. I was fired again today. Has anyone been fired and able to draw unemployment from this ridiculous company? I just can't take it anymore, want to quit, but think if I can somehow draw unemployment that would be great for me. So I've been going back and forth since the beginning of this "safety pay plan" getting around 99.5% to 100% for 2 weeks then falling off the grid at 98% (and once much lower), back on the grid, back off.
