I started with a new company yesterday. I got two hours of training on their platform. I was given five reports to transcribe. I have been transcribing for 30 years. TODAY, one day later, they told me I wasn't right for this client and they let me go. I cried all day. I was nervous about the new platform, jittery for a week before training, and loved the account. My corrections weren't that bad for a first day of transcribing on a new account. Just venting. I feel really depressed about this.

I got laid off last year and was crushed, so I can imagine how you must feel. Really hurts self esteem, I know. Maybe, it was really due to someone else being given the job, like a friend, etc. You did you best and just have to move forward.

I agree, it couldn't have been due to your work. There just was not enough time to judge your abilities. It reeks of something on the other end going on.

Definitely do not kick yourself over this. This sounds like a company better left in the rearview mirror anyway.

I'm sorry for the emotional turmoil you're going through, but if this company is going to let you go after one day and 5 reports, then this is not a company you wanted to spend time and give your skills to.

I really am sorry you're going through this. I got laid off in March and it was devastating. There are jobs out there, though, so I know you'll find another one soon.

I agree, you did dodge a bullet. Better to be let go the first day, than to bust your rear for months, or years, and then be dumped for something trivial.

Also, being expected to produce 100% error-free work after only 2 hours' training on their platform and account, with new doctors, is ridiculous. Even a 30-year veteran like yourself (and me, too!) needs a little while to dial in to a new dictator, and new software. If they don't know that, then they're amateurs.

You know what I bet happened, Jada. I bet someone had left the company, you replaced that person, and then he/she decided to come back. You don't want to work for an outfit like that. They're very unprofessional and I hope their company goes down the tubes!

My opinion on this is that it had nothing to do with you. Any company who would fire a person after the first day without explaining exactly what they did wrong, is not a company that you would want to work for. It takes time to get used to a new platform and doctors (more than 1 day), so I am sure by the info that you have given us, that this company fired you for other reasons that had nothing to do with you. I'm not sure what the reason was, but it isnt something that a reputable company would do. It may have been a blessing that you are unaware of because if they would do that to an employee, what else would they do to the ones who they keep. Just my 2 cents. Dont let them get you down, apply for a new job with confidence.

Same thing happened to me, I have 24 years experience, got no feedback. I bet it was the same place. They told me exactly the same thing; they said we weren't a "good fit." I was astounded.

They also told me I wasn't a good fit with that client. I don't want to say the name. I am afraid. It starts with an "O." I did find a job, my own client actually. Two orthopedists, a lot of work. I am sooo happy. I was devastated as I really wanted the job that let me go. I waited so long for them to get back to me, you know the deal, hurry up and wait. I waited weeks before they called me back, two weeks before training and then one day and got let go. That never happened to me before for performance.

On another note, I read this board a lot, don't always respond. I think this is a great place to vent. Family and friends don't understand the business. My husband thinks I have a great job. Everyone thinks working at home is so great. I am so happy to have a place where I can complain and have everyone listen. It is so much cheaper than therapy. :)

Even if I made a million dollars a year doing this, (yeah right), I would still want a place to vent where the people understand me.

it in for you (based on what, I don't know). My own recent experience, and it would be different if they didn't correct you/me with incorrect grammar, subject/verb agreement, etc. An ERROR by the way changes the MEANING of the sentence. Someone should remind QA of that.

New accounts are new accounts, when did the powers that be forget this... luckily my boss hadn't but I still might not stay.

Sounds like you definitely dodged a bullet there, Jada. I used to work for myself in my own MT business and had a client say they no longer needed my services. It was quite a blow at the time, but I found it, it had nothing to do with me personally and another opportunity came along that was so much better. Keep you chin up and remember, when one door closes, another always opens! In the long run, I bet you will see it was for the best. It always is.

Well, I was officially fired yesterday. Up until last summer, I was one of their top producers, never having an accuracy problem. The reason I got fired? I got sick. Isn't it odd that being fired from MQ isn't a disgrace? Being fired from any other place would be total humiliation, but I don't think anybody here would ever look down on another MT who was let go. MQ doesn't discriminate. I was fired. I started with Medquist in 1998. They fired me in 1997. I was hired and Spheris and became a Medquist employee after they bought Spheris. I was fired again today. Has anyone been fired and able to draw unemployment from this ridiculous company? I just can't take it anymore, want to quit, but think if I can somehow draw unemployment that would be great for me. So I've been going back and forth since the beginning of this "safety pay plan" getting around 99.5% to 100% for 2 weeks then falling off the grid at 98% (and once much lower), back on the grid, back off. I have been targeted like crazy on audits, getting them every couple of days, and albeit there are some things I did wrong (had/has), I am getting marked for stuff like leaving a blank, sending to QA, and then marked wrong for the blank on a critical error saying I should have been able to find this.
