I exceed my line count and still making Min Wage--Why? - Lee

Posted: Oct 24, 2011

I work my hours--exceed my line counts, but I am still making Min Wage.  I am so confused.  What does it take to make more money?  It seems like I keep making less each pay day.  And can anyone explain the 2 check stubs?

Minimum Wage - old and burned out

Because that's the way MQ wants it.

Seriously, I have no answers for you. What are your transcription/ASR line rates?

Upper mgmt must be asked. - Adios

[ In Reply To ..]
I am having the same problem. This question goes above this board and above our CCMs. We need to demand to speak to someone in upper management and get some answers.

Unless we all demand answers nothing will change. And probably nothing will change anyway.

This company is too big and we don't matter anymore.

The two paychecks? because the system is so convoluted they can't break down our pay on one paycheck. Major red light to me that we have to get 2 paychecks to explain how we are paid, and it still makes no sense.

Only you can answer why. Do you know what your pay is based on? - Not what the company has told you, have sm

[ In Reply To ..]
you looked at the jobs you are paid on. Docscribe only pays on the first document that has been handled by a person. If you do ASR or straight typing, the job you u/l is what you are paid on. Editing jobs you are NOT paid for any corrections you add to a document. You need to track your jobs and find out what is going on. Also, as for a go to meeting or whatever to visual have someone explain, while looking at a job, how you are paid.

Go To Meeting? - Adios

[ In Reply To ..]
Guess I need this meeting, cuz I have been asking questions and only getting the same old tired handy hints.

I want to know what we are paid for. Sounds like you know. How bout pulling in headers? How bout placing skip markers?

P.S. - Adios

[ In Reply To ..]
It would really be great if you could give more detail on this site so we can all get some answers we have been asking lately.

Many of us are suffering PTPD, post-traumatic paycheck disorder.

I would at least like real answers, even if I don't like what they are.
Ok, here is what I did. In Documanage put in a date and - the in pull down report type, click daily. SM
[ In Reply To ..]
That will give you each job you did for that date individually. Click on a job, then on job view pull down click on count log file (payroll). THAT is what you check is based on. Again, q is really straightforward, unlike the company I worked for that skimmed lines off the top of each job. Sad thing is, even with robbing their workforce, they still couldnt make a profit.
You should also kinda often, compare what q says the lines are with what another - program says they are. sm
[ In Reply To ..]
Copy the body of a report, no pt identifiers, but those usually arent in the body of the text anyway. Copy the text into a word document and run a character count. Take character count plus spaces divided by 65 and that is the line ct. You cant go by Word line ct cause a line can be many different things but a character is a character is a character. Get familiar with how you are paid and what you are paid on.
I really thing, tho, that learing how to keyboard more effectively - is the answer. I am a recent sm

buyout to MQ, so not real sure what to expect as far as quality of dictation, but MQ ASR is TONS better than the DQS ASR that my MTSO used. At least, you need to understand how you are paid. If I cant make a living at q because dictation is so bad, it is time to move on. You cant fix a dictator you cant understand.
Btw, unless someone on here is going to pay my editing rate, - you have to put up with poor spelling/grammar. nm

As for do we get paid for expansions and those kind of - not straight ASR or typing things, SM
[ In Reply To ..]
I am not sure yet. I know all the extra stuff that you might have to add to ADT, you arent paid for. I need to think of all the different aspects and then I will start sending out emails trying to get answers. Like you expand 3 letters to get an extra 20 characters. Do we get paid for the 3 or the 20? And you cant assume you get the 20. You could very well be getting the 3.
20/3, just what I am thinking - Adios
[ In Reply To ..]
That is what I am beginning to suspect. Because something has obviously changed. I have sent an email requesting to speak to somebody who can give me a direct answer. Just got more "handy hints" on how to increase productivity.

Just looking for yes or no, black and white. Suspicious it should be so hard to get that.

It seems with all the "wonderful" things on MQ Central, there should be a place to go that would clearly tell us these things regarding our pay.
I think they count on a mostly female work force accepting - whatever they are told. Most females of a SM
[ In Reply To ..]
certain age (of which I am one) dont want to have to think about pay and are you being cheated and comparing numbers now and then. MTSO counts on older female work force beleiving the company has their best interest at heart but nothing could be further from the truth. This is business and it isnt gonna change cause I dont think it is fair, Thus, I have to KNOW what is going on and if I am not happy at one place, time to move on.
Do you kinda know day to day, what you are making? At the end of the day, - run the lines on your jobs and see what
[ In Reply To ..]
you made for that day. If you do that at the end of each day, you will know what your check should be. There will be no surprises. If you arent happy with the result, time to start utilizing all the shortcuts to shave time off each job. But unless you know what you are making, not just what you are told you made, you will never know if you are getting cheated or if it is YOU that is holding back what you could be making.
It's not like I haven't thought of all this - Adios
[ In Reply To ..]
I have been at the Q for over 10 years. I was here when ASR was rolled out. Time to start utilizing shortcuts? Not sure you meant for that to be condescending but it was.

My shift ends at 10 pm. I go to bed thinking about how my line count sucked after, of course, checking it before I log off. I read murder mysteries to get my mind off my work anxiety.

You capitalized YOU in your last sentence. Really? We are going there? I am holding myself back? That is why I have had one-on-one with the training staff, talked to my QA person til I want to cry, every single day add to my shortcuts. That really hurt.
I think anyone staying at MTSO that isnt meeting their needs is - holding themselves back, yes. nm

Really? Gee should have thought of that. - Adios
[ In Reply To ..]
I have been trying to get out for 2 years, all the while trying to improve things for myself while here.

I live in a rural area. Not a lot of choices, but I will not give up.

Why are you guys being so condescending? I have some legitimate questions I am looking for answers too.

Again, 10+ years, at the start of ASR, always a strong performer, always ready to grow, not somebody making excuses.

Hard for me to believe you work at MQ, as MT/ME.
What does living in rural area have to do with staying with rotten MTSO? Anyway, I agree, make - them answer your questions. Dont give up. nm

Rural area-fewer jobs - Adios
[ In Reply To ..]
There are more people than jobs available. I live in the mountains and we all want to live here, but there just aren't that many jobs that pay more than minimum wage.

Doesn't mean I won't get something, just means it takes a lot longer. Once people get good jobs here they hang onto them. Very little turnover, but I do have my foot in the door so it's a matter of time.

Just eats away at me that MQ is getting away with so much. It just is not right, and I will keep looking for answers while I am here.
Why does that matter when you are working on computer. There - are other MTSO besides Q and rural doesnt matter.

Nobody is ever going to be more interested in your earning power and your - paycheck than you. You need to
[ In Reply To ..]
take charge and become intimately familiar with how YOU make money. And figure out what you are making per hour. That is the real measure of if your MTSO is a good fit for you.
Exactly why I am seeking answers. - Adios
[ In Reply To ..]
I went into MQ Central and got some e-mail addresses in HR to see if I can get clear answers.

I was actually referred to the Ultipro website for answers.

Thus my frustration.

Seems like simple questions, yet nobody seems quite sure.

Doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out if they have to mail us 2 paychecks every payday to breakdown our pay, something is wrong in the way we are paid.

Yet nobody in upper management will ever address it.

Q calls it something else, but it is when you can log on to - another PC and see what they are SM

[ In Reply To ..]
doing. They would pull up a document pay is calculated on, go down line by line and at the end, explain what all those other numbers and calculations are. Since the lawsuit, Q is pretty straightforward, except for the not paying for additions you make in editing a report. But the platform, and I am sure EVERY platform, can be set to skew the lines in favor of the MTSO. Happened to me big time.

I can tell you why mathematically - Solidarnosc

Based on my own rate for speech rec, if I were to earn minimum wage for my state, I would have to produce 200 lines an hour.

Making The Line Count
Dec 29, 2012

Does anyone else have problems sometimes making the minimum line count that their company requires?  Some days I make it & some days I don't.  The other day for example, I worked 2 hours (partied too hard for Christmas Day the day before) & I made 13 lines over the minimum requirement.  The 2 days after that, I've made a total of 56 lines less than the minimum & I've worked more hours than I did the day I went over the minimum requirement.  So when ...

Got Letter Saying "not Making Line Count"
Aug 18, 2010

I just got an e-mail from my supervisor saying this today. I have been having a hard time making 192 lines per hour on SR reports.  That is way over what I was hired to do at 127.5 lines per hour. Now they say SR reports are counted as 2/3 of a line, so we should really be doing 192 lines per hour if they are SR reports. In addition, one patient had the wrong birthdate on the patient panel. Next report, the patient's name, SS, & DOB missing.  I had to search through lookup. ...

STILL Making Just Over Minimum Wage!
Apr 04, 2012

I LOVE working from home. I love my CCM, she is extremely understanding and flexible, which is what I need! Due to this, a few weeks ago I decided I just had a "bad attitude" and needed an adjustment. So I put my nose to the grindstone and produced almost 5,000 more lines than normal or required (80 hours). I had quite a few straight transcription jobs, and was confident my paycheck for the last pay period would be awesome! Although it was approximately $70 more than normal, I still figured ...

Why We Should Be Making More Than Minimum Wage
May 09, 2015

If our skills are valued the same as fast food workers, then why do they require at least one year's experience as an MT to be hired? Why do newbies have to have gone to school? Why the lengthy testing before being hired? Any 16-year-old with no work experience can be hired at Burger King, so why not as a medical transcriptionist? I don't understand the reasoning behind lowering our income to minimum wage and making it next to impossible to advance beyond minimum wage, even for peo ...

Anyone Blamed/fired For Not Making Min. Wage?
Jul 30, 2014

The account I work has a ton of untrained young dictators who never learned what a pause button was, and half barely speak English, requiring restructuring of most sentences.  They think it is fine to blabber through the ROS and PE since it always comes back perfect (after a ton of research to decipher it) and don't think it is necessary to say more at the end than "CC Matahadavadah.  They don't say "Doctor" first so you don't know if it is a last name, first & ...

VR Line Count - What Kind Of Line Production Should I Shoot For
Mar 24, 2011

I was just hired on with a company to do strictly VR. I am only going to be working part time so about 4 hours a day. I am wondering from those who do VR what kind of line production should I shoot for in 4 hours of work? What is the normal VR line count for part time? I have read that most who are working full time or 8 hours a day are doing more than 1,000, even 2,000 a day. The company I will be working for wants a minimum of 10,000 lines in a payperiod which the lady said even with part time ...

Character Count/line Count
Feb 23, 2011

Is this correct? I type 70,000 characters a day. I am paid by the 65 character line so I would divide 70,000 by 65 to get 1076, then multiple that by pay per line, say $.10 and get $107. ASR Line Pay And Min. Wage
