Accuray -- Scam? - Kim

Posted: May 12, 2014

I recently applied for a job on MTJobs.com and received a reply a couple of days later that asked me to add a friend to yahoo messenger for an online interview.  I added the person and went through a 40+ minute interview process.  At the end of the interview process, I was offered the position.  They would be sending me the documentation in the mail.  Along with this package there was going to be included a check for the computer system.  I informed the person that I had the exact requirements, but they insisted on my purchasing a new system and send them the receipts.  The next day the sent me the USPS tracking information for the package that included $100 insurance.

All communication has been from yahoo email or messenger, but I can't see the upside for them?  Of course I will make sure the check is good before purchasing any equipment, and will look over the documents closely, but has anyone ever heard of this?  I sure hope that it isn't a scam, but as stated above I don't see their upside.

Please help :D

Sounds like a scam, there have been several posted that proceeded in this same fashion. I think I would run as fast as I could. Yahoo messenger is a red flag and when $$ is sent with promises for payment of a computer, not the norm... most companies require you provide you own.

Don't cash the check - Scam

[ In Reply To ..]
Don't fall for it. There are tons of scammers out there, and you must assume this is one of them. Many have mentioned the scamming being done via IM lately. Even, and especially with, the check being sent, don't cash it. Even if it's a cashier's check and looks good, the scams that are out there do that same thing. Many send a check and ask you to return the difference. After you cash the check, even a cashier's check, it will bounce and you will be responsible for that money. Read up on it on the internet -- it's very common.

Accuray Scam?? Fraud? - Anonymous

Hey, I too got a call today.. A supposed interview lasted around 20 mins in which the guy went offline twice.. Talked more about money, which bank is the account, no P.O. box address, will send a check in Fed Ex and give tracking number etc etc.. I was "selected" and was asked to provide details of address, phone numbers etc.. Found strange that employee of Accuray sends email from "gmail.com" and sets up interview on "yahoo chat"... Anyways, I am not accepting the offer... Please be careful..

THIS IS A KNOWN SCAM... - DO NOT DO THIS

[ In Reply To ..]
You already spent too much time giving them information.

There is also no way to "make sure the check is good." The bank will deposit it, discover that it is fake, and CHARGE YOU to cover it.

You are already half-burnt, so do not go further.

You should report this to the FBI. (Yes, really.)

It was a scam - Kim

We kinda figured that it was, but was hoping that it wasn't. They didn't get any other information that wasn't already on my resume. We did get the check, but called the bank that it was written on to verify funds before depositing it, which we had no plans on doing anyways. The bank confirmed that it was a bad check. We knew immediately when we opened the letter as it was written on Notepad. I mean, come on, who uses Notepad? We have contacted the fraud department with the information. Little did the scammers know, that I tracked down their IP address, pinged the closest webserver, and saved the check for fingerprints. The fraud department was very impressed with the amount of data that I gave them. Don't know if it will help, but it couldn't hurt. Thanks for all the help :D

Thanks Kim.. Had it not been for your post, I too MAY have believed them though I did have my doubts from the beginning.. The guy gave his name as Anthony Kalmin , email id anthonykalmin@yahoo.com. Introduced himself as "I am SIR Anthony Kalmim" :-) . His alternate email id was anthonykalmin@gmail.com. Can they actually use the info on my resume in a bad way? Should we actually inform Accuray of their company name being used for fraud/scam?
Same Guy - kim

That was the same guy that "contacted" me. The only thing they have is your contact information. Since I doubt they will come by your house, there should be nothing to worry about.

I have already contacted Accuray, but have only left messages of concern as they haven't contacted me back.

This most assuredly is a scam, I only wish that these posts had come up sooner. I was taken, like the idiot I am. It was the same guy, Anthony Kalmin. Did not find out till too late. Was contacted by Accuray after I sent an email to verify this guy and they told me the have no clue who these people are. Have been in contact with FBI, Trade Commission, local PD, next step is Post Master General as the bad checks were sent via USPS. You know, I really thought that MTStars website was careful about this stuff and helped protect us from crap like this. I was wrong, really wrong. I just was so desperate for work that I didn't "read between the lines" and went forth with blinders on.

Thanks Kim.. You did great ..I got so worried about my resume with that person.. I don't understand how can people do such things . They just want to rope in gullible people while we are looking at sites for a job .. I even have stopped looking at the site of getmedicaltranscritionjobs.com from the time this happened..
Nigerian Scam - Sir, Barrister, Mr, Mrs
[ In Reply To ..]
You can often peg the scams just by the titles they give themselves -- they're weirdly foreign. Things like Sir Aloysius Bunawunde, Mr. Aloysius Bunawunde, Mrs. Grace Bunawunde, Miss, Reverend, and ... my favorite ... Barrister Aloysius Bunawunde.

Barrister ... like that isn't going to be a clue that you aren't from around these here parts. They apparently don't know to use good American names like Bubba and Bobby Jo.

Spelling and weird syntax is the other clue. I got an email the other day from someone who said that he had done the QA on my credit card and wanted to check on my satisfaction. He was emailing, he said, from London, where he had gone "for a curse." Unclear if he meant course or an actual curse.

Yes.. I realized all this after looking at Kims post and then started with all research and analysis. Also everyone, please be careful of emails from london where an unknown person or company just wants to donate off his fortune worth 3 million to you just like that !! :-)) Can u believe that? I keep getting such emails but I delete them even without reading. But I never knew I would fall for this scam of job interview.. Guess I was in need of a job and the prowler just saw that ...

I was emailed today by Accuray's legal department. I am going to be sending them via email, photos of the check, the yahoo chat, and all other corresponding documentation. I have also contacted my local authorities and the FBI at Accuray's request to help them get to the bottom of this scam. I encourage anyone out there who has deal with these individuals to do the same.

Anyone contacted by this scammer might want to change their bank passwords as well as email. They may use what little info is on your resume to look for enough to do more damage.

My husband is a computer wizard, and it has something to do with the network, logs, etc.

Only thing I know is that he only took a few minutes to locate it. Sorry I don't really understand it, so I can't help that much.

I did ask him, and he said that it would take too long to explain.

Just got thru with an interview with Accuray.....and of course I passed and they told me about sending me a check to purchase the equipment needed, etc.  They claim the pay is $15 per hr for training and then $25 per hour doing regular transcription.  Has anybody else gone thru this interview process with Accuray?  Mother hen here is sighing heavily to think that such an action would be asked by a company.  During the interview they even asked me my bank name.  Faked it ...

Scam Ads

just curious... I see the scam ad for belly fat on main screen here now.  This "julie" person does the exact same advertising for several products - same wording.  There's no such person, no such TV station.  If you look closely, top of screen has word ADVERTORIAL on status line.  That is their blanket disclaimer that pretty much means it's all made up, not a factual person or situation.  Just a story.  Why is it on this site? ...

Transform Scam?

Is anybody else going through this?  Transform used to be a great company, been there for years making good pay, good accounts.  Lately they have just insituted this fancy new "pay" system where our base pay has been decimated but we get to make up some of it up by jumping through all these hoops, like typing more than 1000 lines gets you a percentage increase (percentage of what), using typing keyboard "shortcuts" gets you more crumbs here and there.  In the end we really don ...

New Pay Scam Vs Old Pay Plan
May 31, 2015

They've been sticking me with 1 "error" just about every other week. That 1 "error" brings my pay down to just about 8 cpl, very close to minimum wage every other week. I got to thinking. With the old pay plan I was getting the quarterly bonus almost every time. That means I had at least 99.5% accuracy for 3 months at a time. So I ran a report on my QA jobs for the past 3 months. My QA accuracy came to 99.6%.  Same accuracy as on the old pay plan, but yet I'm such a bad transcrip ...
