A community of 30,000 US Transcriptionist serving Medical Transcription Industry
I recently received an E-mail to call a company who is hiring for a large oncology account. The company's name does not sound like it would be an MTSO but rather a company that handles data for other companies. I called the company, the person seemed very nice, but was not very informative about medical transcription or even the aspects behind hiring MTs. There was no mention of a test. Paperwork was sent to me. Everything looked legit. There was mention of purchasing Bytescribe and a dongle that would work on 3 computers. There are at least 2 companies hiring for oncology accounts, and this company is not one of the larger ones. I do not want to confuse anyone between the 2 larger companies on other boards currently hiring oncology MTs; this company is not either of those companies.
Long story short. After a 2-week period of time. I was contacted to do some practice files last weekend. I completed those files and returned those to them. A week goes by and I was contacted again stating that I did not do well on those files, they would like to send me an easier doctor to transcribe (practice files). My impression was that the first go-round was a test to see if I had the skills they were looking for, although that was not stated at any point in time in the conversation or by E-mail other than they were "practice files."
I am not so sure I really want to do this second batch of files because I have heard there are companies out there who use the ruse that they are hiring MTs, but send them "test" files to help catch up on their backlog. Thoughts please?
