CBaySystems Becomes M*Modal Global Services - dmj

Posted: Sep 11, 2012

Press release today, September 11, 2012.

Near the end of the press release:

"Just as exciting, this aggressive growth plan now enables us to train our Indian employees with new skill sets in medical coding, in the complexities of medical billing and in the emerging field of healthcare analytics. "

I know some MTs would like to transition into medical coding. I suppose it's wise to keep in the back of our minds that medical coding could also be sent offshore just as has happened with transcription. :-(

Coding going offshore - MT

"Just as exciting, this aggressive growth plan now enables us to train our Indian employees with new skill sets in medical coding, in the complexities of medical billing and in the emerging field of healthcare analytics."

Though, according to the crystal ball gazers on the Coding board, this will NEVER happen, ABSOLUTELY NOT, because we coders are so much SMARTER than MTs.

I had looked into transitioning to coding but learned this was starting to happen. I commented on the Main board that after doing a LOT of research (I was looking into Andrews), I decided against it, and was told that with my "attitude" I wouldn't make it in the coding field anyway. To be clear, I think it's great if anyone is transitioning into coding, I just decided against it for me. I was also accused of "always" causing trouble even though it was my first post on that topic! I was just expressing my opinion and a decision I came to. I've come to my own conclusions now about the motive of the insulting responses.

I do think there will obviously always be a need for experienced coders, but in my PERSONAL opinion, it will be progressively harder for a new graduate with no experience to find a job (and have seen this comment more often on the Coding board). Obviously, companies like M*Modal, who have done it with MT, are going to aggressively do the same with coding, which will affect the industry. Anyone who refuses to see how this will change the job market for coding is naive, or reacts overly defensively because they run a coding school.

Different viewpoints are good for discussion - dmj

I think it could be a valid concern, and it's just something to tuck in the back of our minds as being plausible.

I took coding in 2009 and became a certified CPC-A. Never did find a job in 2 years and ended up letting my certification expire. It didn't make any sense to pay the expenses of keeping the credential (AAPC dues and costs of CEUs). Very few coding jobs were advertised in the area where I lived at the time, and of those that were, they definitely wanted somebody with experience. It could have just been the area I lived in at the time.

I found it had been much easier as a newbie MT in 2008 with no experience to get started right away. I didn't find the same amount of ease with coding.

I respect all opinions that lead to a balanced discussion of issues. Having differing opinions doesn't make another person wrong; they just have a different viewpoint. I certainly have no problem with that.

M Modal - me

This is why I refused a job at M Modal and they still send me tape recorded requests about my interest in working with them. I refuse to work for a company that doesn't utilize USA employees. How much $$$ are they really saving in sending it to India for typing and then back here to the US so a qualified MLS can correct the work for submission to the client? Just an endless circle of poor priorities if you ask me.

PS - Wow, speaking of overly defensive... - MT

Notice, when someone DARED to mention this link on the Coding board yesterday, not only did she get insulted and attacked but was called an M*Modal "zombie cult member", "had no clue", was "paralyzed by fear" and told to "start getting some education" and "get a life". Wow, overreact much?

According to the bullies, "you should realize that it is advertising intended to bolster their stock" and "This is all about PR. Do you honestly believe every piece of PR that you see?"

Isn't this denial over-the-top? It's as if they have a personal stake in not wanting this to be known. I think that on a Coding board, of all places, one should be able to post this kind of thing INVOLVING CODING without being bullied. It does a disservice to those interested in researching all aspects of the coding industry.

I was sure this would eventually happen, which is - why I didnt consider learning to code.

I think ANY job that is done on a computer, including graphic arts, web design, coding, technical writing, architecture, you name it -- is in danger of being all sent offshore if America doesn't put an end to this travesty.

If not, we we become a nation of a handful of super-rich, and millions more either unemployed, or doing menial work for pennies. Hello, Third World.

You're smart! And MANY of us warned... - Warner

that this would happen, posting quotes and links to industry journal articles, only to be attacked by the deniers on here!

I wish I had a dollar for every time I was called a "Debbie Downer" (how childish!) just for posting FACTS on this board.

GTS (Global Transcription Services) Out Of Australia
Dec 08, 2014

Hi, I wanted to know if anyone out there works for GTS out of Australia. I just got an email from them telling me I was shortlisted to start work there & to contact them with my availability. I currently have a full-time job but was trying to find something that was a better pay than what I currently am making. I looked up their website but would still be interested in any information from the inside from anyone who currently works there to see if this would be worth checking into further or ...

May 01, 2012

I thought they were 2 different services.  Everyone is buying out everyone, so who knows.  All the small companies have been merged I guess.  I thought Nuance was out of New York and were the primary with VR.  Maybe one has to keep up with the changes and be a member and pay the dues and go to the meetings with AAMT and be a CMT to keep up with the changes, even though you still get 4 cents. ...

Global TN
Mar 11, 2010

I just had an awful reply from Global TN regarding my resume.  I have 20 years' experience.  I actually have an Associate's degree in Transcription (way back in 1989) and their response was that I was not really qualified.  They said because I do not type acute care (which I do?), have only typed for 3-4 years (clearly not true) and I do not own a C-phone.  I listed my DAC digital system on the resume.  Wouldn't someone in the transcription business know t ...

I worked about 3-4 weeks for SGS.  The people were really really nice.  The pay was on time.  The problem lies with too many Q.A. people and all having different opinions and no one agreeing on the same thing.  They nick-picked me to pieces.  I had a job come up today and it was a STAT.  I had no idea it was stat.  I was in Q.A. being checked for everything, so I was doing my normal be careful speed and they said hurry it up.  So, I did and then they would not let me have the line count ...

Superior Global - The Pay Was Also Awful
Feb 25, 2010

I've been sending out resumes, and taking tests that must end up in cyberspace, even though I pass them, hear nothing.  Then I hear from Superior Global, passed the test, no problem.  The recruiter calls me, and her dictation is awful, and her command of the English language equally as poor.  I thanked her, and said I'd think about it.  However, that first impression left me less than luke warm.  The recruiter above all people in the company should excel in communication skills, a ...

Jan 30, 2011

I have been looking for an hourly QA job for a while now and realizing that I made 18,000 last year with a good education and lots of experience really put the emphasis on how much I want to go hourly.  I am (I think) good at what I do and pride myself on accuracy.  Editing offshore work on production pay isn't working for me at my current position because the reports are a mess and take FOREVER.  At any rate, I've sent out about 8 resumes so far in the last 3 weeks with ...

During a time when millions of Americans are out of work, with no hope in sight of finding another job, and people up in Washington jabbering away about "Fixing the economy", the bottom line, and the truth, is this: No American company should be putting bigger profits ahead of all else.  Not when so many skilled Americans are in such dire need.  It's just not right, and it's time to tell the government we won't tolerate their allowing big business to squash the rest of ...

GLOBAL INFO SYSTEMS (GIS)
Jul 03, 2012

Need recent info on GIS please. Just been contacted by them for an IC position, straight typing @.05 a line! When I asked why so low, I was informed there is a ton of docs, work and a lot of repetition in the templates, so they feel you are getting a lot of free lines! That being said, I'm still shocked that these companies continue to go lower and lower on the line rates! Considering I have been an MT over 20 years, this is crazy to me, but I did read a couple of old posts here that this i ...
