illegal not to pay independent contractors - annonymous

Is it illegal not to pay independent contractors twice a month. It was agreed to in the hiring process?
If it is in your contract you are being paid twice - see mesage

a month, then nothing illegal. Whatever is in your contract with the MTSO is how you should be paid. If it says you are paid when they are paid or every 2 weeks or once a month--that is that. As far as I know there is no "legal" way to be paid other than with legal currency.
you can be paid with things other than dollars - and still have to report on your tax return

OP is not talking about prizes, vacations, etc. She is - talking about getting paid period. NM

the 2nd poster said they thought the only way to legally pay was in legal currency. IF you work in a store, and your boss is lacking cash, your boss can pay you with store credit, which isn't currency, and will still be reported on your tax return
If you are an IC - mymt

Then you should NOT be asking this question.
As an IC YOU should have dictated the payment terms or at the very least negotiated them.
Irritates the beejezus out of me that people on here talk about being an IC and havent a clue what that actually means.
To answer the question, no it is not illegal. If you have agreed to payment terms in the contract, then you present the contract to them and ask to be paid. ICs (real ICs not employee ICs) can go 90 days to get a check depending on who the client is.

How Do I Pay Other Independent Contractors?? Oct 30, 2013I am a self-employed medical transcriptionist. I work for a single practice as an independent contractor. I need to "hire" other independent contractors to help me keep up with my work load, but I have no idea how to go about doing this. Any and all information and advice from others who have done this would be greatly appreciated, thanks!!! ...
Anybody Heard Of This For Independent Contractors? Nov 17, 2009In order to comply with the standards and criteria the Federal Government has set forth to determine who qualifies for IC status, MD-IT has designed a couple of very basic questions to see if an individual is eligible to be classified this way. 1. Is your business incorporated, a LLC, S-Corp, or Partnership, with a separate FEIN, or are you a sole proprietorship with a registered DBA (fictitious name)? If yes - can you provide evidence of such? (copy of registration ...
Independent Contractors And Nuance Jun 06, 2012When Nuance bought Webmedx they said they intended to keep the Independent Contractors. They have now "laid off" the last of one, with no notice. They were able to get around the 2-weeks notice by laying them off instead of officially terminating them. They talk about re-instating them "soon," but since Nuance has no other independents that the one they inherited with Webmedx, I certainly have my doubts about any reinstatement. ...
Should I Hire A Tax Pro Or Do Most Independent Contractors Feb 18, 2013This is my first year filing taxes as an IC. It seems over my head, but maybe just because this is my first time. I really would like to avoid the 250+ my local tax person wants to charge and apply that amount to the taxes I will be owing. So is it that difficult or should I just let the pros do it? Thanks ahead for any advice ...
Question For Independent Contractors Sep 13, 2014To the independent contractors out there...How much do you usually average per hour when being paid per lines? I just recently took a job a new company, what they offered in cpl seemed to be decent, but once I got working the software they use is extremely hard to get a good line count. It seems I just keep typing (and/or edit for the SR) away, but the lines take forever to add up. I think we are paid 72 characters for line, no spaces, no headers/footers, and you ...

Isnt It Illegal For A Potential Employer To Ask Your Age? Nov 16, 2009Have any of you had the feeling you weren't getting callbacks from employers you applied with because of your age? I've been getting that feeling, and I thought that discrimination based on age, among other things, was illegal.

Company Tactics; Unethical, But Not Illegal. Mar 02, 2012I am starting to see a trend here with companies hiring MTs at 6 cpl enticing them with easy doctors, tons of work, and once off of QA "you are bumped up to 7 to 7.5 cpl." When asked, "Typically, how long does it take to get off of QA?" The answer always is, "No one is ever on QA for more than 2 weeks or we let them, go...1-2 days typically." What tends to happen after the first day or two, they begin to add the worst dictators to the pool, thus making it mo ...
Time Outside Production - Isn't It Illegal To Require This? Feb 13, 2014New to Nuance, swallowed up when they acquired my employer at the end of 2013. I see they really expect you to spend a lot of time doing things outside your schedule, training, reading manuals, etc. Other than a flat rate for installing and learning software (20 minutes, actually took twice that), they don't offer to pay for all this extra time. Seems excessive. Has anyone tracked this extra time and filed a complaint with DOL about it? Or tried to clock into W ...

Going Independent - Please Advise Nov 11, 2009Hi Everyone,
I'm a transcriptionist with 20+ years of experience. Way back 20 years ago I had my own service and, for various reasons, closed it and went to work for someone else.
Now I'm tired of paying the middle man all of my hard earned wages and would like to get back into the truly self-employed aspect of transcription. Back then we just transcribed from tapes. The problem is that technology has changed to so much during that time, I hardly know where to start ...

For example, if you are being offered $15 an hour as an independent contractor and $12 an hour as a payroll employee, you may initially be tempted by the fact that your "take home" pay will be ...
