Illegal? Unethical? Shady? - mt

So "Perry" has a job on the job board.  You essentially give them leads from accounts you work on and they will try and underbid your current employer.  Guess they never heard of a confidentiality agreement, ethics, etc.

I'd never work for a company with such a complete - lack of ethical business practices! nm

I'd be afraid it'd come back and bite me in the behind. A company I used to work for, which I never ever would return to, has a large account I'd like to see them lose. But like I said, I'd be afraid of repercussions from doing that.

Yes, I sure would like to do the same. - Anon

I am wondering though why some posters feel we owe any loyalty to companies that have treated us like crap in the past. I would be hesitant to refer any old accounts due to legal implications or repercussions that would probably come back to haunt you. I am not sure what these companies legally could or would do to former employee who caused them to lose some accounts. That would be interesting to find out.

But why in the world do you think we owe any loyalty to MTSO's that have used and abused us. The only thing stopping me is the legal repercussions.

Wow that's really twisting what I had offered. I never mentioned nor was I interested in under bidding anyone. I was not asking about your current or previous employer either. It just so happens that MTs are on the front line a know what is going on in the industry. There are many that have heard about unhappy healthcare facilities due to sub par quality and turn around time. This causes poor patient care. Maybe you need a reality check on how many patients each year are negatively impacted by poor quality and delayed documentation. Offering a substantial compensation for the referral of a healthcare facility that is unhappy because their patients are suffering due to their current transcription solution, whether it be their in-house staff, front end SR, off=shore, another MTSO or whatever reason is not illegal, unethical or shady. So please stop trying to create something that is not there.

If the hospitals cared about quality, they - would be willing to pay for it NM

The fact that you even wrote that response and find nothing wrong with it, speaks volumes.

At the very least, you're shady and unethical and IMO only go DOWN from there.

quality is better or they can provide better coverage. Offering a bonus for leads is just part of business - all kinds of business.

You know other businesses do this all the time. Look at Silicone Valley -- how do you think some of the businesses got ahead with their software technology. I am sure that Bill Gates and Steve Job were not above using staff whose only job was to spy on other companies and thus rewarded for whatever information they could gather. I am sure even Mitt Romney has done something like this to get ahead in business. It may sound unethical and dishonest, but let's face it, that is what the business world is all about. How do you think M-Modal get so far ahead -- from being the nice guy and treating their employees good -- oh yeah, give me a break. This is not a nice world and in order to survive you have to play their dirty little game.

Seems to me if the hospital was that - unhappy, they would SM

do something about it themselves. I really don't believe they care that much about anything except the bottom line IMO. Instead of trying to hone in on other MTSOs, why not hire the best MTs you can and pay them for the quality documentation they can produce. You could then obtain accounts with your own reputation. Of course, this only works if anyone at all cares about quality in medical records and obviously the decision makers do not.

poor quality work being put out by the MTSO in our Radiology Dept is the doctor who wanted an MTSO the most. He was told by his superiors to put up and shut up. So now he spells everything, complains, curses, and carries on like a little kid, but, hey, you get what you pay for.

At least that ad is finally gone. - Hallelujah.

Company Tactics; Unethical, But Not Illegal.
Mar 02, 2012

I am starting to see a trend here with companies hiring MTs at 6 cpl enticing them with easy doctors, tons of work, and once off of QA "you are bumped up to 7 to 7.5 cpl."  When asked, "Typically, how long does it take to get off of QA?"  The answer always is, "No one is ever on QA for more than 2 weeks or we let them, go...1-2 days typically."  What tends to happen after the first day or two, they begin to add the worst dictators to the pool, thus making it mo ...

Shady Practices
Apr 02, 2013

I recently got 'promoted' to MME, having taken the test with the understanding that I would receive a 5% pay raise to my transcription and VR base rates (according to MM intranet MME FAQs document).  But the recent e-mail we received, asking tier-3 MTs to become MMEs, says we are "eligible to be considered for" a pay raise.  What?  Does that mean my raise is going to be raffled off or something?  Feels like bait and switch, and just another example of sketchy practi ...

Alliance MT - Shady Behavior!
Oct 29, 2012

I submitted my resume online to Alliance MT a week or so ago and was sent an email from "NS".  She asked that I call her to talk with her further about a position with the company, so I did.  After our conversation, she set up a time with for me to call her and do a test with me over the phone.  So, I called back at the agreed upon time, and she said that she couldn't talk with me right now that she was on the phone with a doctor.  Red flag number one:  If an emplo ...

Shady Acres Radiology; Any Of The Chosen 23 Get An Interview Or Hear Back From Them
Sep 05, 2010

Back on August 22 or 23, there was a job posting for Shady Acres Radiology, and several people said they had received an Email from Shady Acres indicating that they had chosen 23 resumes, asked some computer questions, and if they would agree to a background check; and that Shady Acres would contact them within 7 to 10 days for an interview.   Did any of the lucky "chosen 23" hear back yet (their 10 days is up).   Whenever I see “background check” I expect the ...

Isnt It Illegal For A Potential Employer To Ask Your Age?
Nov 16, 2009

Have any of you had the feeling you weren't getting callbacks from employers you applied with because of your age?  I've been getting that feeling, and I thought that discrimination based on age, among other things, was illegal. So of course, the answer would be to just not fill in your date of birth, right?  Well, lately I've applied at a few places where the ONLY way to apply was online.  I had actually called them because I wanted to either come in and fill out ...

Time Outside Production - Isn't It Illegal To Require This?
Feb 13, 2014

New to Nuance, swallowed up when they acquired my employer at the end of 2013.  I see they really expect you to spend a lot of time doing things outside your schedule, training, reading manuals, etc.  Other than a flat rate for installing and learning software (20 minutes, actually took twice that), they don't offer to pay for all this extra time.  Seems excessive.  Has anyone tracked this extra time and filed a complaint with DOL about it?  Or tried to clock into W ...
