I worked for Focus for about 6 months. I was on night shift, 9 pm - 5 am. Most nights I would be lucky if there were 3 jobs...the rest of the night I had to keep checking to make sure there were no stats to do. I got no pay for staying up all night waiting for work, but if I didn't do it I would get in trouble for not being available during my assigned hours. They did give me a secondary account, but that account was going through a computer change and more times than not it was not available for work. The kicker was that my accuracy dropped one pay period to 97.7% and they canned me because I didn't make 98%. I was not happy with the company. If you work for them, good luck to you...you will need it.

I just started for focus and am under training. They said that editing is 4 cpl and transcribing is 8 cpl.
Am going to test with them and had to read their preemployment skills assessment book - are they good to work for? Are they extremely picky, I see a point system listed for errors...Punitive QA or helpful QA? Flexible? Pay decent? ...
I am a QC with Focus and I have to say, I am so sick of this company. I have tried and tried to love them. I have been with them for a long time and I stuck it out. I tried. No more. My team lead is rude, unprofessional, constantly contradicting herself and just outright mean. I am tired of editing India's work. I work my rear off to get my line count (what I need to make) but over the last couple of months, that has been cut in half due to no work. ...
Can anyone give information on Focus. I would love to hear from someone on their experiences with Focus? I see old postings on this, but nothing as of recent. Thanks for your help! ...
They used to have decent and affordable medical insurance but I thought I heard in January the cost went up substantially. Is this true? and if so, does anyone know how much it is now for individual and family? ...
The day we suddenly ran out of work in early February was when another MTSO got the account. For my fellow MTs who are suffering from no work from that account, you can go to TTS, who is still hiring for it. Line rate for employees .01 cent less than TT but they pay headers, which TT did not. You can make the same (.01 cent more if you decide to be an IC rather than employee). I hope this info can help some who need the work and no longer have it. Doubt IMEDX will ever g ...
This is my yearly ode to all of you during MT WEEK, and I want to again express my humble opinion. For just a few minutes, please put aside your depression and anger at your profession and just take a deep breath and listen to what I have to say.
I am truly awed by what you all do. What other profession would you have to be a medical terminology specialist, pharmacology specialist, English language expert, AND a computer/software expert all in one? There is no other pr ...
Since VR, do companies still hire "editors" or QA to review/fix the reports done by MT on the VR? If so, what is salary like. Is it hourly/by line and production? How is the job itself? Any info appreciated. ...
I've been an MT for many years but I am new to SR editing and I am feeling kind of incompetent. Today it took me 45 minutes to edit 1 note which was 57 lines long I've worked for 5 hours today so far and I have 500 lines. For any MTs out there who switched over to editing, how long did it take you to get up to speed with it and earning a decent hourly wage? For the experienced editors, about how many lines do you edit per hour?
I do like the com ...
I'm back to editing after a few years away from it and can't believe how bad the software still is. The company I worked for 3 years ago used better software and the drafts were not that bad. Now I'm with a different company using not the best editing software. Not sure what the docs are using, but the VR really does a bad job, even with very good dictators. On words it doesn't understand it ignores them and then picks up when it understands it again. The errors it is makin ...
I started a new client for an MTSO recently. One ESL dictator's H&Ps are so out of order they require a ton of reformatting. This is the order he dictated: History of Present Illness, Past Medical History, Chief Complaint, Plan, PE, Review of Systems, Assessment/Plan. The template has to have formatting changed (bold headings and point size), the guy is very difficult to understand, does not use proper grammar and needs most sentences restructured. He slurs through the Review of Systems ...
Hi There! Just curious if there are any SoftScript editing staff out here. I seem to be struggling a lot with making any money since beginning there. I seem to be getting a lot of training review reports with a lot of blanks and/or acct spec errors, incorrect templates, etc. I also end up running out of work a lot and have to type. Not here for negativity just thought maybe someone has some suggestions of how I can increase my productivity from those who have been there longer and maybe tel ...
With over 2 decades experience I can't make over $8. per hour with very rare exceptions were I get great dictators, long reports without the need to research demographics or other data. Where am I going wrong? ...
So for those of us that are looking for jobs who have worked for Nuance doing straight transacription and will most likely need to accept positions with a large amount of VR editing, what is a realistic in terms of hourly VR lines that are edited? I am assuming that most companies have similar averages of what transcriptionists edit within an hour. ...
I tried for a month not to use the mouse and only use keyboard commands but it's soo awkward. I started experimenting with using the mouse again and my production went way up. Is it a short-term gain? Should I hide the mouse? LOL. ...
I have an account that is transitioning to voice recognition which will take a couple of phases to fully implement. For a few months, they are going to need editors to check over some of the reports. Could I get some input on what kind of rates editors are charging? I've heard of by line, by hour, and by dictated minute, but not sure of the amount of each. This would be hospital Radiology editing and I'm in the PA/MD region. ...
Trying to determine the norm for providing free work. I spend more time fixing dictator's demographic errors demographic errors and searching for data that should have been dictated than I do editing.
I'm just wondering if other editors just note these problems for QA to deal with or are you also working pretty much for free?
Anyone been fired for refusing to work for free?
