Focus/Nuance posting for help from US MTSs? - anon

?? They have a lot of accounts, yet offshore. Don't get it.
Nuance now Wmx too, and tons of MTs fled Wmx - anon

I know a LOT of MTs have fled since the announcement that Webmedx is now Nuance. Most of Webmedx accounts were held BECAUSE they did NOT offshore. So, they will probably still want this as a condition, so they will need US MTs to replace all of their fleeing employees!
Probably more at old wmx will leave also - see message

As other nuance mt's have pointed out and posted on this web site (those apparently stuck at nuance for one reason or another) the pay-benefits along with a "flawed" (as one poster said) incentive-bonus plan is just awful.
I bet there will be a lot more from the old wmx leave sooner or later and maybe some will even file for unemployment since many states allow claims for a SIGNIFICANT pay cut.
Nuance can't keep MTs -- there are reasons! - NCMT

I agree with an earlier poster--Nuance has done more to wipe out this industry than any other company. Remember when their advertising slogan was "Eliminate Your Transcription Costs"! They thought their technology would replace the human brain. Then when it didn't happen, they moved to offshoring because they could not do the work domestically for the price they were charging.
Now they're buying other MTSOs for the accounts, then the US MTs train their technology, and they only keep US MTs on the account when the hospital will not allow offshored MTs. Even then, I've heard they offshore it secretly, getting US MTs to QA it.
They're worse then MedQuist ever thought about, and I have more respect for MedQuist than Nuance.
They're a technology company whose goal is to eradicate the human element. And when they can't do that, they want that human element to be paid minimum wage.
IMHO Nuance is the most unethical company in our industry. I'm not surprised at the mass exodus from Webmedx.

Unless you work there, how can you make this statement? I've worked there for awhile now and do not see anything like what you described. No, i'm not a suit, just a lowly editor, but still make a good living and don't want to work anywhere else - why should I? Everyone has their own opinion of a company.
And the "Q" is worse than Nuance could ever be. I worked there and would never work there again.
For the most part their MTs are onshore U.S. MTs; have only ever worked with one who was not.
I do the job I signed on to do. I work my schedule, don't flake off because I'd rather go shopping or the beach or because I'm p.o.'d because I cannot dictate the terms of my employment. Nuance is the employer - they are the ones who make up the way things are done. IMHO, if people don't like being told what to do by an employer then they should start their own company to see just how "easy" it is.
If that makes me a suit because I do my job, so be it. I'd much rather be a "suit" than fired because I didn't hold up my end of the bargain.

No flames from here, but personally I am really glad I changed employers. I do want to respond to your statements about working our shifts and not taking off to the beach. I am glad you have had a good experience, but by your statements above, it seems you are assuming those who complain don't take directions and flake.
There are multiple posts here and my experience as well that even though we followed our scheduled shifts, we had frequent NSA during our shift. Then we were told to check every 15 minutes during our shift (and also warned in the e-mail that they could monitor this and know if we did it or not). So we cannot run to the store, do other errands, we are still sitting by the computer our entire shift, NOT getting paid, and then have to flex or use our PTO to try to get in our hours. I changed my hours so I worked early afternoon into the evening and still got NSA. I frequently "worked" 50+ hours clocking in repeatedly to log 40 hours of actual work. I didn't have 2 days off in a row for over 2 years. I had no PTO because it was used for the times when there just wasn't any work even at midnight when I checked.
Anyway, I respect your experience but wanted to point out that it is not fair to then paint others who complain as people who want to go to the beach and flake and not take directions. I jumped through every hoop they put out there and was a defender of the company for a long time until I realized what was really happening.
Nuance has driven line rates down. When I worked on - eScription early on, providers using eScription SR
[ In Reply To ..]
were encouraged by the eScription people to insist on more and more rate cuts (to achieve the lower costs promised by their salespeople) or take their work offshore, still with Nuance products of course. In many cases my MTSO had no choice but to cut rates drastically to hold onto accounts. Plummeting line rates driven in large part by this are THE reason I left that MTSO, and when I went I did not apply to any company using eScription/EditScript, lovely program that it is.

Copied directly from their "Outsourcing" link... NOTE the grammar errors in the ad. Gee, wonder what their transcripts look like, lol.
When are we going to give the work to you?
We are currently outsourcing to about 31 MT companies across India and are presently expanding our vendor base. If you are interested to be part of this revolutionary expansion by Nuance Transcription Services, I request you to please send your name, designation in the company, and company profile to xxx. <---email address was a link that did not copy to the clipboard.
Prerequisites that you need to meet to get work from us:
1. Company should be already into MT business at least for the past 1 year.
2. Company should have a spare capacity of at least 5000 lines to start with.
3. Companies who are capable of executing at least 3000 lines in night shift get preference.
4. Should be capable of uploading all work directly to the client right from day #1.
5. Should be compulsorily working 24 x 7, including Saturdays, Sundays, general holidays, etc., including night shifts. However, we are presently receiving hardly 10-15% of the work on weekends.
Calculating this = 5000 *to start with* x 31 = 155,000 lpd. Let's not forget that they are implementing a "revolutionary expansion" and will be adding more Indian-owned MT companies.
Edited to add further calculations. Taking the total lpd from these companies *combined* let's assume that each MT is able to produce their required 5000 lpd, which I have shown equates to a combined 155,000 lpd from India. Now, let's assume that each MT were able to pump out 1000 lpd. This would mean that there is at least 155 MTs from India working right now. ;)
Am going to test with them and had to read their preemployment skills assessment book - are they good to work for? Are they extremely picky, I see a point system listed for errors...Punitive QA or helpful QA? Flexible? Pay decent? ...
I am a QC with Focus and I have to say, I am so sick of this company. I have tried and tried to love them. I have been with them for a long time and I stuck it out. I tried. No more. My team lead is rude, unprofessional, constantly contradicting herself and just outright mean. I am tired of editing India's work. I work my rear off to get my line count (what I need to make) but over the last couple of months, that has been cut in half due to no work. ...
Can anyone give information on Focus. I would love to hear from someone on their experiences with Focus? I see old postings on this, but nothing as of recent. Thanks for your help! ...

They used to have decent and affordable medical insurance but I thought I heard in January the cost went up substantially. Is this true? and if so, does anyone know how much it is now for individual and family? ...
I thought they were 2 different services. Everyone is buying out everyone, so who knows. All the small companies have been merged I guess. I thought Nuance was out of New York and were the primary with VR. Maybe one has to keep up with the changes and be a member and pay the dues and go to the meetings with AAMT and be a CMT to keep up with the changes, even though you still get 4 cents. ...
That is unfair. They should just advertise under Nuance now. People might jump to the job thinking it is another company, and come to find out it is Nuance. This is false advertising. I surely wish Accentus would quit posting job openings. I get excited whenever I see a good job listing then I see it is Accentus/Nuance all over again. Sheesh. Thanks for listening to my little rant. ...
If you currently work FT with Focus could you share approximately or average of your gross montly income from Focus is. I am wondering if it is worthwhile to apply. I currently work as an IC and average $2000-2400 a month, which is fine but I have no benefits. I would like to have a FT job that provides insurance and PTO time but do not want to lose a chunk of my current income. Are you able to make what I currently do being FT? Thanks in advance for your input. You can priv ...
I have been working at Focus now for 2 weeks. I think everyone is nice. All my QAs have seemed fair except today one QA (and only this one) counts off for blanks. Well the team lead said you are not penalized for blanks when I hired on. She said you won't be dinged for blanks. Well so far I haven't had a QA to ding me for a blank, but today, as I said, one went to town on my reports and dinged for every single one I sent in. My team lead isn't o ...
There is such LOUD Indian-type music blaring in the background? That is all I can hear. The doctor is mumbling away and all I hear is

Recently I had the benefit of hearing someone speak on where our focus lies. It wasn't a talk about employment at all, but I started thinking about it today as I read through the posts on this board.
The jest of the talk was that if you focus on the negative you'll be grouchy, have more pain, be less productive, and generally be miserable. If your focus is on the positive, though, suddenly you're happy in spite of miserable circumstances.
I was hoping with this forum ...
Anyone out there who is working as a QC for Focus Infomatics and making a decent living? I'm newish to this position and am struggling to make a buck. I need some comfirmation I made a good move. So far, not so good and I'm hoping I get into a better groove quick enough to move and make some decent money. Any success stories very much appreciated! ...
My eyes do not want to focus today. I have to actually think and make them focus on my computer screen. I had to put my glasses on already today. Does anyone else have this problem ever? Is this an occupational hazard or is there something wrong with me?
I do work a FT job and a PT job totalling over 60 hours a week, maybe my eyes are just extremely tired. ...
I posted this question below but fear it will be buried.
To those of you just hired at Focus, how's the pay scale?
I currently make 8.5 straight/4.5 editing.
Is it comparable to, higher than or lower than that?
I'd never ask anyone to divulge their pay scale but I'm trying to get a feel for if it's better than where I'm at.
TIA to anyone willing to give me a ballpark hint here! ...
I want to apply because they said there are new accounts etc. Then, I checked the archives and as early as December, people were claiming to running out of work every day because a lot of the work goes to India. They also were told that there would be new accounts but somehow they vanished and they ended up with no work. I really want to find a good stable home with a lot of work but I am nervous now to apply. It seems a constant theme for companies to advertise NEW ACCOUNTS, HERE WE GROW AGAIN ...
They did get back to me and have gotten the ball rolling on my hiring now, so, hoping soon to get started with them. I just got a little worried when I had sent in some personal info and then didnt hear anything, but we're getting it done now. I'm lookin forward to it and hoping all will go well. ...
Is there anyone here that currently works for Focus? I'm having a lot of trouble getting started. I'm being QA'd to death. One minute they tell me to do something and another they tell me the opposite. I'm getting frustrated and I'm sick of doing ESL work. Some are fine, don't get me wrong. But, if the speaker mumbles, slurs and just generally does not speak clearly, please do not lecture me about not understanding him. I just need fellow sufferers/workers to vent t ...
I received an e-mail today from a recruiter at Focus Infomatics. I applied there last year and didn't meet their experience criteria but the e-mail asked me to send them an updated resume to see if I do now (and I do). I currently work for MQ and quite frankly, I could take it or leave it. I've not been impressed by MQ but I don't see a reason to leave a job I'm not fond of for another job I may like even less. Any info about them would be greatly ...
I see only one fairly recent post on Focus Infomatics and the responder just said "Indian owned company, I believe." Does anyone out there know for sure? Does anyone out there work for this company and, if yes, would you recommend them? IThanks! ...
