What is the current pay range for editors?

oh, 12 cents a line, 15 if there are a lot of corrections to be made, 18 if corrections AND a lousy dictator, and 20 if you have a really nice boss who cares about quality. Hey, why not make it a shiny quarter a line. Welcome to Friday night fantasy board. I'm just taking a break from my measly 4.8 cpl struggles to indulge my imagination a little.

I make 0.0536 per 65 character line using Dictaphone ExEditor.

Is that the program that uses "magic punctuation" and CTRL M to align the cursor with the audio? Oh I miss those things like crazy, I miss ExEditor! And that is not a shabby rate. I do not like having to manually cursor to the end of every word to put in a comma or period. Period.

Yes it is. I had never done VR, but so far I am liking it pretty well. It's nice to sort of just sit here and listen to the reports instead of typing them.

Wow, you officially have a "dream job" then-- where you have a good account that VR recognizes, and a good cpl rate! May you always remain blissfully ignorant of how horrible VR *can* be! --Where it turns simple phrases like "he has been feeling much better" into "she is done fearing much bitter." Or turns "25 mg" into "twenty 5 mg." It's one of the great wonders of technology that it can recognize "Jamshidi needle" and "eptifibatide" but not "is" or "been" or "25." (On bad accounts, that is!)

Oh, it definitely has its good days and bad..lol. I had a patient who was a high school choir director and the VR program put he was an abused police officer. I just take the good reports with the bad. There are some dictators I have more correcting to do on than others, so I just enjoy the ones that don't require a lot of correcting and laugh at the ones that do.

VR is horrible when you only do ESL dictators. While the software tries to pick up the words, it cannot fix grammar errors, and I find myself having to rewrite sentences to make them sound correct. It ends up being a lot of work for only 4 cpl. I do about 90% ESL and I have taken about a 30% paycut since they all went VR. Not good. :(

The day we suddenly ran out of work in early February was when another MTSO got the account. For my fellow MTs who are suffering from no work from that account, you can go to TTS, who is still hiring for it. Line rate for employees .01 cent less than TT but they pay headers, which TT did not. You can make the same (.01 cent more if you decide to be an IC rather than employee). I've been an MT for many years but I am new to SR editing and I am feeling kind of incompetent. Today it took me 45 minutes to edit 1 note which was 57 lines long I've worked for 5 hours today so far and I have 500 lines. I'm back to editing after a few years away from it and can't believe how bad the software still is. The company I worked for 3 years ago used better software and the drafts were not that bad. Now I'm with a different company using not the best editing software. Not sure what the docs are using, but the VR really does a bad job, even with very good dictators. I started a new client for an MTSO recently. One ESL dictator's H&Ps are so out of order they require a ton of reformatting. This is the order he dictated: History of Present Illness, Past Medical History, Chief Complaint, Plan, PE, Review of Systems, Assessment/Plan. The template has to have formatting changed (bold headings and point size), the guy is very difficult to understand, does not use proper grammar and needs most sentences restructured. Hi There! Just curious if there are any SoftScript editing staff out here. I seem to be struggling a lot with making any money since beginning there. Trying to determine the norm for providing free work. I spend more time fixing dictator's demographic errors demographic errors and searching for data that should have been dictated than I do editing. I find it interesting that the specs have changed. I'm happy to see these changes... Doctors names in report verbatim. Headers abbreviated verbatim. (LABS, MEDS, HISTORY, HPI, etc). Copy-Paste requests verbatim. Skip silence (for dictators who have never heard of the pause command. Will dictators finally get the message that mumbled abbreviations with B, C, D, E, P, T, ...
