Does Transcend have an incentive plan and would you explain it for me?

 

What were you hired at (base rate)?

 

Do they have any VR work and what is the base rate for it?

I am not fully transitioned in, but as far as I know:
No incentive pay.
Hired at base rate.
Plenty of VR at approx half of MT rate.

Some things may be dependent upon account and/or platform.

I can only speak for my own experience with Transcend recently. They advertised for a "straight transcription only" account to which I applied. Upon interviewing, I was told that account was put on hold, did I wish to interview for another account which was 40% VR. I said sure. I was hired and that account turned out to be 98% VR. A very nice account mind you. They pay 60% of your straight transcription rate for VR. I thought they were a great company until I received my first check and realized I was paid for production only. This is typical, you say? No, it is not.

In the first 2 weeks of working, being brand new to the company (VR was brand new to me, also), I obviously did not meet hourly production, but did not minimum wage requirements either. I made NUMEROUS attempts to rectify this situation. Well, finally thinking it had been cleared up, my second check did not have back pay and did not have money for meeting minimum wage either.

I went to the CEO (I have posted here about this before). He did not help me either. I am not a whiner, complainer nor an idiot. I happen to have a college degree and would not stir the crap, so to speak, just to cause trouble. But, this is a federal crime. And, all my nice managers? They turned on me in a heartbeat.

wondering about just how much you were doing. Most of these places are paying production only. Did you know this when you accepted the job? I am like the MTer above, not even enough for minimum wages, then best see about another line of work. Is this a new profession for you?

She was hired as an employee paid based on production. However, by federal law, if an MT does not produce enough per hour to make minimum wage, MTSOs are required to supplement the difference.

Transcend hires primarily employee status; therefore, they are bound by the minimum wage federal law. Anytime an MT does not earn enough to make minimum wage, the employer is required to supplement the difference. This could easily happen when training on a new account and new platform. I would expect the longest for this to occur is 2 weeks. If after 2 weeks an MT isn't able to make minimum wage on an account, it's time to move on.

I must not have explained myself correctly to elicit such snarky responses, but around here there does appear to be some miserable people which is truly a shame. LOL

The poster who explained how minimum wage works is correct, and I did not realize that Transcend primarily hires ICs?? That is a new one to me. I am not a new MT and maybe I am a slow learner. I have not met many MTs who meet or exceed what is required in the first 1-2 weeks when joining a new company. This is why many companies will pay a set hourly rate for awhile. I could be transcriptionally challenged though!!

I believe, perhaps, if posters would reply with the same meanings, but maybe with a bit of kindness, these forums would be so much more productive and helpful. Just the cryptic way the first 2 posters reacted to my post makes one wonder just what, exactly, they are angry about in life.

I too have noticed a real sense of "better than thow" on here. Who gives some folks the right to cut down others just because they are posting on a forum for MTs and posting about the MT profession. Well, in life, actually what ever makes a person feel that they are so above others that they can be snarky all the time?!?! Lighten up folks. I'd much prefer to be friends with someone who uses a bit of well-placed sarcasm referring to their wages/jobs than someone who must just sit in wait until they can jump on someone else and suggest that that person is in the wrong profession. Hi. I've been thinking about going with them but just got the ol' voice recognition switcheroo with TransTech and don't want to go through it again, as "you will make so much more money" has halved my salary. My question is, have any other Transcenders been told they'd do traditional only to be switched to VR? (Sorry if this posts twice, I've had trouble with the computer.)

Since PTers don't earn PTO, how do you handle taking days off?  I'm considering a schedule that will involve most weekends (to supplement my FT job).  While I don't need to work as much as they require (20 hours), I do need a little extra spending money.  Will taking off a weekend day or 2 a month be a problem?  Has anyone else had to deal with these circumstances?  Just want to know what I'm getting into. ...

It is not "mandatory", but if you do not do it, you will be written by your SM asking you to. Same thing. So tiring, day in and day out. I also was concerned about the statement in the handbook indicating that even as PT we had to put in an 8 hour day on the weekend.  I contacted the appropriate person who informed me that the polices in the handbook are directed to Transcend MLSs that are hired “the normal way,” and not to the MDI MLSs who are coming in via the merger.  Nothing will change about the way you schedule yourself as long as our accounts stay compliant with TAT. Any Transcenders Out There Not Making Their Minimum Lines?

I'm just wondering.  I've been with Transcend going on three years now and have never made my minimum lines for part-time.  I've always just worked my shift.  It was never an issue of me hitting my $450 or not.  Now all of a sudden my job is in jeopardy because I'm not hitting it.  I work evenings so I can have help with my kids, but now I'm having to flex days as well to try to meet these lines (horrible ESL and losing a lot of my blank lines ha ...

I have an interview with Transcend on Monday and have read conflicting stories on this board about whether or not Transcend MTs run out of work.  Some you are saying you never run out; some say they hardly ever run out, and some say running out of work is a problem for them.  What's the story on this?  Also, how is the health insurance?  Thanks for any info you have!  ...
