Transcend Compensation according to their Website - anon

Posted: May 26, 2011

I thought I was working for Transcend already until I happened to look at their Career page today.  It says they offer CPL based on experience and work types transcribed, Mon-Fri positions with rotating weekends, and shift differentials.  I've been there for three years now, have never had a raise, make as much as the next person, and work 2nd and occasionally 3rd shift, but have never received a differential.  Anyone else working for Transcend out there that doesn't receive these compensation benefits?  I'm just curious.  Maybe it's a different Transcend (which I know is not true, just be facetious).

I thought it was just me that worked for the "other Transcend", the one without - same boat

[ In Reply To ..]
raises, without shift differential, and the one that tells you that you are just lucky you have a job. The one that rewards the MTs who have not tried to be highly productive, use every resource to try to improve themselves, etc., and the one who never hears anything nice from the TL or ROM. Maybe we need to apply at this new Transcend company. All these innuendos about all these changes make me even more nervous, since the last changes I was supposed to embrace was a cut in pay and cut in benefits when our company was bought out. Wonder if they will cut us to less than 4 cents this time or take all our PTO away now.

Glad I'm alone on this boat - anon

It also said they offer paid training and lots of meetings to discuss all the things going on with Transcend. Well, my paid 'training' consisted of half an hour with a trainer, then on my own. We never get paid for the meetings, so I stopped attending them. Luckily, I have an awesome TL, but my ROM is another story. She never had anything nice to say and I'm always afraid to open her email because I know it's going to be here complaining about something. As for a paycut, if they do that, I'm outta there.

I know I said I'm glad I'm not alone on this boat, but with that said, I'm sorry that there are others that feel the same way I do. I really have to wonder if we are working under the same people because I've been told numerous times I'm lucky to have a job. I'm so sick of that. These jobs are a dime a dozen. I only stick with Transcend because they do seem to be better than the others, but better doesn't mean great. I did recently get offered another job through another company doing straight typing that pays more than what I make now, but while I'm in training I'm very limited on how many jobs I can do. Once I'm out of training, I may take that one on full time so long as it looks like the work will stay consistent. We shall see. Until then, I'll just keep waiting for my shift differential. I stopped asking for a raise a long time ago.

transcend - still the worst

[ In Reply To ..]
I used to work for Transcend and got paid for most meetings. Having said that, it is the worst company I have ever worked for. They have created a "dog-eat-dog" atmosphere. A LOT of cherry picking by some of the team leads made my life there miserable.

Raise at Transcend - Jean

[ In Reply To ..]
I asked for a raise at Transcend after having been there for 3 years and was told "no." Then I was told about someone who was doing 4000 lines a day, or a little under twice what I was doing, as a comparison (and presumably why should I have the nerve to ask for a raise?). So, I quit. Screw them. And furthermore, I don't believe that this individual could do 4000 lines a day on that crummy M*Modal editing platform they have. I think she was subcontracting the work or hiring her family to work to get all those lines every day.
"Screw them"...my sentiments exactly LOL - anon
[ In Reply To ..]
I've only ever known Transcend to cut pay, not raise it.
They can tell us lies like that "high producing" MT, - because we never see our fellow MTs, so -
[ In Reply To ..]
how are we to know if anyone really does those high line counts? (And I don't believe 4000 lines a day for one minute!) They could say someone produces 10,000 lines a day, and other than somehow having all their employee and production records supoenaed and brought before a judge, how would we ever be able to prove otherwise?

Unless they can prove to me that someone produces 4000 lines a day, I will presume they are LYING.
They HAVE to be lying - mt
[ In Reply To ..]
They send out editing line rate counts every week and there are so many people that are only doing 150 lph editing. There is no way anyone is doing 4000 lines per day. On my best day, I can do 1700. Definitely lying. Regardless, not giving one a raise because supposedly one person is making those kinds of lines?! What does one have to do with the other? I've also been there three years and have asked for a raise twice. All I've been told is that I should be glad I have a job in this economy. Whatever.
They'll be lucky to still have a company "in this economy". - anon

Once employees have no choice but to go elsewhere because they've exhausted savings, cut back to ramen noodles 3 times a day, and simply can't afford the electricity it takes to fire up the computer and work for Transcend...or those who have a 2nd household income simply get tired of slaving away for what amounts to nothing when they realize their valuable time is better spent with spouse and kids, if not a better paying company.
Guess I was naïveI was doing - Jean
[ In Reply To ..]
I figured that if we could do double, I should be able to do 4000 too! But most of the time I did 2200-2400 a day editing with the exception of 2700 one day only. After banging my head against the wall trying to figure out why I couldn't double my production or even get close, that's when I asked for a raise (after being at Transcend 3 years, maybe 1-1/2 years editing) and when I asked for a raise and was told "no," then I just figured it was time to go. FunnyI thought 3 years was a reasonable enough time to have to go without an increase in pay. Now I realize that MTSO's for the most part NEVER give pay raises. Butsomeday the economy will get better and then I hope people will remember the %$#@*** these companies dish out to their employees and I hope we all will be able to boycott them! They all probably figure if that happens they will just take the work to India. But the inflation rate in India is 8 or so percent! By the time the economy gets better it will probably not be very cost-effective to ship the jobs over there, since they are trying to make us work cheaper and cheaperand will probably have to pay more total compensation in India than they do here. Apparently the Indians get their health care completely PAID. They get time off. They get snacks and a gym (they must have to work on-site). Maybe these companies will just go out of business or go bankrupt. Speaking of bankrupt, did anybody ever figure out why Spheris went bankrupt? Was some management official's hands in thue cookie jar?
Boy, something screwed up my post above! - Jean
[ In Reply To ..]
It looked OK when I looked at it and checked it for errors! Sheesh! "Guess I was naïve" was what it was supposed to say and the other funny symbols were supposed to be ellipses (three periods).
Someone has to pay for those elaborate ROM conferences they - you are right
[ In Reply To ..]
have with 50 people or so all in private rooms, gifts, all meals paid, transportation, etc. And 10 cents says what was discussed, decided, and learned could have been just as easily put onto their oh so wonderful site for training, and the only thing the MLS will get from it is a reduction in pay, benefits, or both. That is why all the secrecy behind the big changes are coming.
I don't see anyone on VR doing that much, too many mistakes in these - reports
[ In Reply To ..]
Wish they would have VR for a certain anount of time during your day and then straight typing another amount of time instead of all mixed together. I think it would be better to VR for a certain number of hours and then straight type for a certain number of hours. You get settled into VR and then here comes a straight typing job and then straight typing and then here comes a VR job. It just seems like you're constantly changing your routine and way of thinking this way. JMO
I do 4000 lines a day on M*Modal at Transcend - Average over 500 lph
[ In Reply To ..]
I'm not saying its easy, but I have been doing it consistently for 2 years and just for the record I can't get a raise either!
I JUST find that hard to believe! - Jean
[ In Reply To ..]
Just out of curiosity, how do you do it? I really have a hard time believing that unless you're getting reports that don't require much in the way of correcting. That M*Modal never "learned" anything that I ever saw. The only reports that I could ever get going fast on were the sleep medicine reports that didn't require much correction and then I could do 400 or 500 lines an hour by editing, but thery were the only ones and one certainly doesn't get a consistent diet of those and who would want the same report all the time, anyway! The rest of the reports....nope--they were never in good enough shape for a line count like that.
I can occasionally get to 3000, but usually 2500 a day. - Agree with you
[ In Reply To ..]
I could probably get a lot more if I did not have to change were to where, 1 to an, one, on, or a, 8 to whatever word it is replacing, take out full code 20 times in each report, replace V lock with V-Loc on every op report using it, remove pull from another 30 places, figure out what each number it puts in is a substitute for a word, add the conjunctions because it uses a comma or a back slash for half the words, add or complete at least 10% of the phrases in each report, change percent to %, change manuel to manual, and triple check every number that is in a report because it usually types 0 when 8 should be the number, etc. I have been reporting these same errors for over a year and nothing ever gets fixed. Instead of waiting for the M-modal to learn the words, why not try forcing some of these down its throat and then if it is a "learned behavior", then the MLS doing it wrong can learn to do it the correct way once they see how it should be.

...or how about paying a human a decent wage to do it right the first time. - Just My 4 Cents
[ In Reply To ..]
But that's too much like common sense.

That ad was probably directed at India. They're - the ones who get a halfway fair deal. nm

Transcend Website Revised

Isn't it nice that they took away our only tool to communicate with our fellow Transcend MLS.  The forum is gone.  That sure as heck didn't take long.  I always thought that we were all very civilized on that forum.  Guess they don't want us communicating anymore.  Heck, that was sometimes the only place you could get an answer about something.  It stinks!  Gonna miss that forum. ...

Does anyone know how an MT is compensated when they begin using M*Modal and basically editing?  If paid by the line, if M*Modal creates a report consiisting of 75 lines, and you edit a few lines here and there, are you paid for the entire report (the full 75 lines) or just paid for what lines you edit?  ...

Compensation - For Transcenders
Dec 16, 2012

As you transition to Nuance, you will have training jobs going to QC.  This will count against your QC percentage and affect your ability to earn any increased increment in line rate based on your quality.  Please plan ahead carefully for a much lower paycheck and look for another job as hard as you can.  Advise all would-be MTs to look into coding or some other profession entirely.  MTs are living at poverty levels these days and we have to get the word out.  With VR ca ...

MT Compensation By MModal.
Jan 04, 2013

http://mmodal2.wordpress.com/2010/07/23/mt-compensation/ Please remember this – your company is paid for its OUTPUT, not for that high percent gain! This industry has seen an alarming increase in MTs who are not interested in transcription as a full-time career. What is happening to the career MT? How will the profession attract the quality-minded, dedicated professional if MTs can’t make any money? It won’t – it will attract the person interested in making a bit of ex ...

Here's A Article About Compensation
Mar 11, 2013

Here’s an article by For the Record magazine that is worth reading. Sometimes, their articles are a lot of fluff, AHDI stressing we need them, or words just filling a page, but this one affirms what we have all known for a very long time.   http://www.fortherecordmag.com/archives/091012p22.shtml Interesting what is written about the Transcend lawsuit too. What can we do? At the end of the article, it mentions “MTs need to work with their employers to develop a fair compensat ...

Compensation Question
Sep 21, 2013

I work from home for a small hospital. I pull up the patient's account and place the reports into it. Most of my doctors are so great and give me the account number or patient information. However, I have one doctor who is bad about not giving me any information to find the account. I spend more time trying to find his patient's accounts than actually transcribing his reports. I am wondering how I can ask for compensation for this. I make .15 cents per 65 characters. Does anyone make e ...

Nuance CEO Compensation...
May 05, 2014

Saw this today. Apparently CEO of Nuance, Paul Ricci, made around $29 million last year. Makes me sick that when I was there I was barely making minimum wage after being an MT for 15 years. The article talks about how he was compensated too much even though stocks were dropping. I think the more important point is how the MTs have been treated. THAT never reaches the article of course.    http://www.bostonglobe.com/business/2014/04/28/nuance-ceo-paul-ricci-tops-pay-among-massachusett ...

Wages And Compensation
Aug 07, 2014

I came into this field long after the precedent was set on pay.  I knew coming into this that the average wage ran from 6 cpl to 10 cpl, with most jobs hovering around 7 to 8 cpl.  What I didn't account for was that in more than 10 or 15 years, we'd still be at that rate.  Not only has our wage not gone up in over a decade, even with cost of living increases, but that when they came out with speech recognition, someone thought, "Well, it's doing half the work, so y ...

Something To Think About Regarding Unemployment Compensation
Sep 30, 2014

I found this interesting and just wanted to pass this information along.  Unemployment compensation if you are either terminated or laid off, is not necessarily "a given."  I was laid off one employee position at the beginning of July and terminated from an employee positon the beginning of August.  The company I was laid off from, I was only with for a short period of time, and they lost the account.  The second positon, I was with then company for 3 months, and could not me ...

New Pay Compensation Plan..sm

New Pay Compensation Plan
Dec 01, 2014

Since 2012, when Nuance "officially" took over the company I was with, they following has been very consistent. 1) Cut pay, then offer some type of carrot (incentive, bonus) to help us "make up" the loss in line rate. QA us to death for any little error, calll it a major error or a critical error to lower our quality score so that we cannot make 'incentive' or 'bonus.' If we do re-read the reports in order to bring quality scores up, our lines go down, and then it is a sum z ...

Did Do Our New Compensation Plan?
Dec 14, 2014

This morning I checked my work email, as I have been off the last few days.  I found a new email titled "Update to 2015 Patient Safety Compensation Plan for the Bayscribe Platform."   They have decided now that after you figure your C-LPM, anyone straight typing in Bayscribe will need to apply a platform factor of 0.88, in other words, subtract 12% of your lines.  Their example was if you type 1000 lines, multiple x 0.88 and you will only get credit for 880 lin ...
