TTS - MY EXPERIENCE - STAY AWAY - EX-TTS

Posted: Apr 04, 2015

I read the posts on these boards now and again, but never ever post here.  I feel like I have to post something at this point.  I came to the boards seeking current information on TTS and like a complete fool, I didn't listen.  I was snowballed by the recruiter into believing the boards are a farse and it's a great and wonderful place filled with unicorns who fart rainbows  (obviously I didn't really buy all of that mess, but I was falling for a good bit of it).  The problem is, I trusted her.  She gained my trust by what I thought was her being honest with me.  She gave me extremely detailed explanations of each account and what the pay was, etc.  I was shocked, because most places aren't that specific.  They surely don't ever give you the option to choose your own account like TTS was offering.  I thought I must have finally hit the jackpot and though the boards said it was a bad place, that wouldn't be my story.  It would be different for me.  I'm a hard worker with a great work ethic, etc. etc. and "it won't happen to me."

Guess what.............it lasted for less than 2 weeks and I quit.  Yep, it was not only what the boards said, but even worse.  I was foolish enough to let the recruiter pull the wool over my eyes and talk me into the belief that even though the pay sucked, at least they always have work.  I came into it fresh out of the gate editing 500 to 600 lines per hour with 99.89% accuracy and above as an average within the first 48 hours on the account.  I share that only to make it known that I was definitely more than capable of producing the minimum and my quality was top notch.  However, that being the case, I still couldn't seem to squeeze an ounce of respect out of these people.  It was very clear that I was nothing to them but a pile of manure and they were the shoe.  I sent email after email after email and they were all completely ignored.  That is just plain disrespectful and rude.  If you don't have time to answer a simple email within a 24-hour time period, you have no business hiring new people who you clearly have no time to properly train.  I had no idea who my "boss" even was, who my account manager was, who I answered to, etc.  I was completely clueless.  I was just supposed to sit there and type and be clueless.  I would even send messages via IM to the trainer while showing online.  A few minutes later, I would not get a reply and she would sign off and show offline.  Really?!  But we are supposed to have messenger up and open to communicate.  Why?  Clearly it was pointless.  I called and left voice messages and was told the phone never rang, so my calls would not be returned either.  Phone ring or not, the voice message doesn't erase itself.

After deciding to quit because it was much too frustrating to not be able to get answers to questions regarding account specs, or whatever else I may have needed, I turned in my resignation.  Surprise surprise........they didn't receive it.  Now it was a big elaborate story about gmail not working with TTS.  So, right then and there, while on a phone call, we sent test messages back and forth through the same gmail account and voila.....apparently miracles do happen, because every single email went through without a hitch.  Go figure right?!  And I may have fallen for the nonsense if I hadn't read my exact scenario almost word for word posted by others who had the exact same experience (minus the gmail part...they were just being ignored I guess).

They require emails to be sent to a loop of people and I have no clue who I was even emailing.  Everything had to be handled by more than one person and I assume there are 2 reasons for that.  One, the staff (more like staph as they are the equivalent of a bad infection) is too incompetent to handle anything on their own without someone holding their hand and two, they want backup because they know they are hideous people with hideous business practices and a lawsuit is just waiting in the wings and proof and backup will be necessary in court.

I had no idea who the Dictaphone team lead was, but my way of being introduced to her was by her calling me and belittling me, talking down to me and insulting me in slang terms for not being on for my shift when I, in fact, no longer worked for the company.  Oh, wait........once again, she didn't get that email.  Imagine that, right?!  It's fine.  I have thick skin.  I understand that it makes classless, tactless, ignorant people feel better about themselves and their shortcomings by tearing others down and calling names and using slang insults like a child.  It's sad, but true.

The most disgusting and disturbing part of all of this is that the company owner just sits back and lets it all happen.  She will also not reply to emails.  She hands the reigns to the people who act like animals and lets them run like a pack of wild wolves without a care in the world.  It's a hideous way to run a business and they whole bunch of them should be ashamed of themselves.

I write this simply as a warning to those who were in my shoes thinking it won't happen to me, I'm a hard worker, I'm a good producer or whatever the case may be.  It will happen to you just like it happened to the hundreds or thousands of other people who posted about it on the boards here.  They show no mercy, they have no feelings and they show no remorse for their disgusting actions and disrespect to their fellow human beings and to top it all off, they pay next to nothing and the voice recognition drafts (at least on Dictaphone) are not good.  Do yourself a favor and take an extra day or 2 or whatever the case may be and keep on moving and wait for that next interview or offer to come through.  You'll be glad you did.  In the meantime, maybe I should consider stooping to their level and see about a slander suit or perhaps harassment for the way I was talked to.  DISGUSTING!

The owner is probably counting her money and - val

Wow! Terrible what you went through! I don't know anything about TTS; I don't work for them but am glad that I don't work for them! Problem is nowadays is that these what I call "software companies" who are out to make a buck off of the healthcare industry and off of MTs should be brought before Congress and action taken. I am semi-retired for 1-1/2 years, having left a hospital where I was paid almost $20.00 an hour with super benefits, leaving with an additional $20,000 check after seven years. I worked from home for them. I then after six months, got bored and went PT with a national company, which I am happy with. They are good people. However, especially these larger companies are obviously just in it to make a buck off of us and could care less. I keep saying that sooner rather than later, all this BS will come back and bite those hospitals in the butt and then it will be too late. I have been inundating my Congresswoman with these issues, to bring the whole industry before Congress but the politicians just "don't get it." They THINK there are bigger fish to fry! However, what about the female American worker? Why DON'T WE COUNT! I will continue fighting this as best I can - just keep inundating the politicians in Washington ...

Hospitals did save money closing their MT departments ... - Amber

[ In Reply To ..]
as they no longer had the overhead, but why they did not convert to ICs I will never understand. Having their in-house MTs work at home as contractors would accomplish the same thing they accomplished by going with an MTSO at a more reasonable price without the middle man. What will never make sense is paying a doctor $70 an hour to edit his own reports or do a lot of data entry when they could pay us $15 per hour, freeing the doctor's time to see patients and not a computer screen.

How do you figure they are paying doctors 70 hour - they are salaried

[ In Reply To ..]
it just takes more of their personal time away, not the hospital funding.
Even the salaried have an average hourly income. - Amber
[ In Reply To ..]
My point is that it is a waste of money to pay $70 an hour for a physician to type and do data entry. At least half of the office visit now is typing, from the visits I have attended. Total waste. Also, the hospitals could have easily retained many of their inhouse MTs as IC working from home and had one transcription supervisor distribute the work and do in house QA.

What I get out of - all of this

[ In Reply To ..]
is a very large case of sour grapes from someone who obviously did not work out. I read about complaints that the OP was told about the account, the rate of pay, etc prior to starting. Complaining about that? That the OP was doing 500-600 lph at 99.89 accuracy and above within first 48 hours (sign me up for that work!) and because of that her team lead called her to belittle her? Read the posts below, they do not give QA scores, only feedback. Which is it? Why would a team lead call if she is doing so good? She would not. Then making statements about the owner not caring and sitting back to let this happen? I think if you read the majority of these posts you will come to realize what I do, that they are all coming from the same person who was probably let go for either quality issues or not showing up for work. Maybe that is just my 2c, but to make statements like that, it makes me wonder how a company can stay in business for so long and have so many MTs working everyday. I say sour grapes combined with a convenient venue to post.

Another TTS person and I think she has sour grapes - also- 8 years and counting

[ In Reply To ..]
I have never ran into anything like the OP is talking about, never. I worked on an account part time only and the VR was next to almost perfect and was able to make about $1,000 every 2 weeks. Now on am another account and no problems there. The VR on this account also almost A1 perfect. Once trained, up and running I have seen no need for any ongoing emails regarding the account but I do get answers should I need them. I am provided, as I am sure others are, with a list of the people to contact at any particular time during the week should you need assistance. I don't care who is the boss, who oversees an account, who is the chief bottle washer. All I am interested in doing is working and seeing that paycheck every other week. TTS hardly ever contacts me, am left alone to work as I like and really feel as above this is a bad case of sour grapes. Two weeks only and you have all these issues? Why not just suck it up and move on or is that important you continue to beat a dead horse? I am sure they don't sit around and think about what could have been with you, you should do the same.

Bravo to you for your opinion - EX-TTS

[ In Reply To ..]
I expected these types of replies and am not surprised. There is much more fine detail to the story that would have taken pages to go into, but to clarify, I was not let go and if you would have read the original post I guess you would have known that. As for your comment that I am the one posting all of the negative comments about TTS, you couldn't be more wrong and again, if you actually read the post you probably would have gathered that too. I'm glad you're happy there. Congratulations to you! I wish you a long and happy career there. Thank you for letting me know that I was special by being given QA scores from my trainer. Sure seems funny to me that they would go out of their way to completely change the policy and procedures just for me, but if you say so. Please do keep in mind that this was my experience, not yours, so perhaps you've forgotten that maybe I have an idea of what I was or was not given and maybe I have a little bit better idea than you of what my experience was. Thank you for your brilliant insight though.

Also, the day they start letting people go for poor quality above 99% is the day we all better start looking for new careers. Thanks for the chuckle. I needed it.

I have heard that the manager on the Dictaphone accounts is horrible. I am on the Escription side, which doesn't seem as bad. When I first started, they were pretty rough on me too but I just soldiered on, got good QA scores, and met my lph requirement. So, I do believe you were not treated well because I experienced it too; the only difference being I stayed. Lately, though, I have noticed more shabby treatment, more heavy-handed QA audits, and just a general poor attitude toward their workers. I'm looking around for something else now, most likely outside of MT.
I also believe EX-TSS, cause I have been there too - alsoEXTTS

and I am not one who posts here a lot. TTS has its cheerleaders who will always respond and say it is a great place to work, probably all part of the admin team, which is a joke.

In my experience, which also was not good, extremely poor management coming down straight from the owner to her cronies-NOT A GOOD PLACE TO WORK!

They have a HUGE turnover, and there is a reason for that, and there also must be a reason they advertise EVERY SINGLE DAY! It isn't because they have so much work, it is because they can't keep MTs!
When you don't believe someone people always - shout administration
[ In Reply To ..]
Not everyone has the same history with them. This person said she was there 2 weeks. I have been there now for 8 years. Call me boss, higher up, whatever but that does not change the fact that some of us never have issues. I would not have spent so much time if that had been the case with me. She needs to get over it and move on. Talk about just on and on and on.
you dont think that administration would not want to - repair their bad rep?
[ In Reply To ..]
It happens believe it or not. When you have to hire every day and lose MTs like that, you have to ask yourself why? I would pay attention to all the negatives and look at the plain simple facts that stare you in the face.
But negatives do not stare everyone in the face - Bad publicity? My story
[ In Reply To ..]
My hospital was outsourced in the early 2000s. I never even knew about MTStars site then, in fact I knew nothing about companies because my entire MT life had been spent at hospitals. Fast forward: I found out my old hospital job went to TTS and called, talked to head person, hired on the spot because I knew the account. Over the years for whatever reason just do not have the experience others have had as far as being put down, treated badly, abused, talked down to, does not happen with everyone. As far as do they care? They might not even read these postings, who knows? I do not have any knowledge who works there, how long they have been on the job, if they are new, old, just never know about their business and not interested in asking. As far as having an ad all the time on here, Coca-Cola advertises all the time so what is the point? As long as I work my hours, my job, get paid it is no skin off my back. If I only worked at a place for 2 weeks, like the OP, I don't think I would have the best of ideas about how everyone is treated. TTS could come here and try to change or shore up their reputation but what good would that do them? I doubt they read these, just ones here griping and others liking the place.
then again your desperation for people to see you had a good exp - is enough
[ In Reply To ..]
then again your desperation for people to see you had a good experience is enough to send red flags. Let people have their opinion. Stop forcing your "good" experience down everyone's throat. I for one worked there and also had a horrible exp. Stop acting like their feelings don't count and acting like they are fools.
You are using the word fool, never came from - me and this is free site
[ In Reply To ..]
Not desperate. Others here try to slam the company. Why am I trying to "force" my experience when others can slam and that is ok, I guess???
I believe the point they are trying to make is...... - EX-TTS
[ In Reply To ..]
Those with good experiences are always known to be rude and obnoxious on these boards and are supposed to be the only ones heard. If someone has a bad experience, they are told to shut up and move on or that they are making it up. Those who post bad experiences do not keep trying to silence those with good experiences or say they are lying or making up their good experience. I believe they are trying to say, it's not only you with a story so come down off of your soapbox and let other's speak also whether you want to hear it or not. No one told you you lied about your good experience did they? You're right, this is a free site with freedom of speech for EVERYONE with both good AND bad experiences, not just for those who agree with your experience.
Will just say this, if you have a good experience - you must be management
[ In Reply To ..]
Everyone should have a horrible experience otherwise. Gone now.
Apparently you have not read all the comments (sm) - Heather
[ In Reply To ..]
Long term employees of TTS have commented that they were pretty much left alone by QA before, but more recently they have been nitpicked by QA and it was not just one poster reporting that. This suggests there may have recently been some sort of change in personnel or change in method of conducting QA at TTS if long term employees, as well as new employees, are reporting the same problems.
You are correct Heather. SM - Anon
[ In Reply To ..]
Those of us so-called "cheerleaders", and I am one who was basically left alone and got great QA scores are SUDDENLY being scrutinized and QA'd with a heavy hand. Someone also mentioned that the so-called "cheerleaders" were also rude and obnoxious. Whenever I have posted in the past about my experience, I simply stated the facts (which were true for me) and never ever called anyone a liar. TTS is a company where employees seem to have either very few problems OR a horrendous experience. I'm not sure why that is. It could be the difference between the Dictaphone team and the Escription team; I don't know. What I do know is they seem to have a new QA team, as I am seeing many new names, and a new QA scoring system. I also know when you are a new employee, they are very tough on you as it happened to me too. I toughed it out and stayed; BUT now the heavy hand is getting kind of old for me, and I have decided to move on. It is their loss.
Thanks for your comments (sm) - Heather

I hope you can find a job where your good work is appreciated. Good luck to you.

I agree with you. I'm no fan of most MT companies, - believe me, but

[ In Reply To ..]
some of the things this poster said just doesn't add up. First she boasts about the 500-600 lines per hour she gets and then further down says their VR system sucks. I wouldn't think it sucked if I could produce THAT much on VR.

Like Judge Judy says, if it doesn't make sense, it isn't true.

Yes - very well said

[ In Reply To ..]
What the OP had to say did not make any sense, unless you are just trying to stir the pot because they hired you then let you go. I also think it is just the same person posting over and over. Just sour grapes.

I'm sorry you're not capable of higher line counts - EX-TTS

[ In Reply To ..]
My definition of VR system sucking and yours are 2 different things. I know, I know....yours is right and mine is wrong. Silly me. I really wish I could get my pathological lying under control. It's finally gotten so bad that I have to jump on random MT boards and make up insane stories about companies. Heck, maybe I really never even worked there. Maybe I'm not even really an MT at all and just go on this board for fun to soothe my pathological lying hankering. Hmmmmm........Sounds ridiculous doesn't it? My point exactly!

Why does that not make sense? - MTofOld

[ In Reply To ..]
Could it be that some people just automatically type and read faster than others. I'm a high producer as well, but that doesn't negate the fact that the system sucks. I type and read fast, so I produce a lot more, when the work is there, despite the horrible dictation. I also worked for TTS in the past, and some people just don't know how to relate to people, which is why I left. So what she's saying is very plausible, even if YOU never experienced that side of things.

I don't work for TTS, but a red flag for me with - some of the responses here is

[ In Reply To ..]
how insulting the "positive experience" posters are. I could understand someone saying "wow, that's too bad. I've worked here for xx years and really enjoy it. I haven't had any of those issues".

Instead, they berate this OP (and anyone with a negative experience - I've seen it happen in other threads). They accuse them of making it up, all the negative experiences are impossible (how would they know?!), only one person is posting all the negative posts (really?), "sour grapes", OP is a liar, OP should "suck it up and move on", and accusing the OP of being "let go for either quality issues or not showing up for work" even though the OP CLEARLY states she gave notice.

I question the motive - why on earth would an MT take all this so personally and respond in such a way? Not a workplace I'm interested in joining, that's for sure. Hmm.....

Exactly! It's obvious the cheerleaders are the one posting over and over - EX-TTS

[ In Reply To ..]
It's blatantly obvious the very few cheerleaders are the ones posting over and over again to try to force a good picture down people's throats. The funny thing is, your posts all sound exactly the same, so you're not very incognito. I do agree it's probably part of the administration. Sounds par for the course.

As to those who are crying that it's a made up story and a lie because you are not capable of producing 500 to 600 lines per hour on VR, I'm sorry that you feel that because of your inability to do it and your shortcomings that no one else can. Perhaps it stings to hear that someone might be better than you? How about a slice of humble pie? There are plenty of people besides myself who are more than capable of making line counts such as this. Yes, the VR system sucked in that it never learned things that went against account specs. Words that were forbidden on the account, abbreviations that were forbidden, etc. They had to be changed every single time in every single report. That to me constitutes sucky VR.

You can state your cheerleader opinions and I can state mine and everyone else with a negative opinion can state theirs as well. You don't get to decide who gets freedom of speech and who doesn't. However, the fact that you think you do makes it very clear why you fit in so well with the TTS team. It takes a special kind of person.

And as for my grapes, just so we can get the produce part of this conversation out of the way once and for all, my grapes are not sour, they're full on rotten, moldy and growing green fuzz, and for good reason.

Keep up the cheerleading (all 2 or 3 of you). Maybe they'll ship y'all a new set of pom-poms for Christmas this year.

Again, to those who want REAL info about the company while trying to decide whether or not to accept positions, just tally up the good posts versus bad on this thread alone. It speaks for itself.

Keep calling me a liar. Keep saying it's a made-up story. It doesn't phase me. As someone above commented, it's simply showing those on the outside what kind of people this company is made of. Maybe instead of spending so much time here being rude, you should consider practicing your VR to get your line count up so you too can see that high production IS possible. Maybe then you will understand.

about 6 weeks--TTS - so far, so good

[ In Reply To ..]
TTS has done absolutely everything they told me they would do. They have been polite and responsive. By platform you are using, we do not work on the same account, thus are probably not dealing with some of the same people.

My training was very good and trainer was respectful, informative and pleasant (fun?). The pay isn't the best, but it is absolutely what was agreed upon.

My supervisor informed me of all vital information as soon as I was released to the "team."

Sure, it is a different company, and I don't like the hoops anymore than anyone else. I've been doing this for 30 years next year, but SO FAR, everything is going fine.

Stay away from Diskriter who has an ad on the Job Seeker's Board. I worked for them and it was THE worst experience of my life. It is a very big hospital they are referring to with lots and lots of facilities associated with it and lots and lots of account specifics. You need to have a certified degree as a rocket scientist to work for them. They chastise you and make you feel worthless. The QA will knock you down, and then you have to waste YOUR time to prove them wrong, which they always ...

How Do They Stay In Business?
May 18, 2013

I've read post after post after post, in addition to having my own experience with Nuance and I really wonder how this company as well as M*Modal stay in business.  I guess even though people are quitting left and right or being fired for not having 99% accuracy, there must be more people waiting in the wings to take their places. I originally came from Transcend prior to the acquisition by Nuance and although I can't say that company was the best either, IMO, it was better than ...

Go With TTS Or Stay With Nuance? Sm
Aug 20, 2013

I saw job ad for TTs and they are offering 1st shift, M-F, which I have been trying to get at Nuance. I don't care who I work for since all these companies pay the same crap wages with the same day-to-day drama. What would you do? ...

Stay Away From Synernet!
Jun 19, 2014

Seriously, the LAST thing you'll want to do is have to work closely with the management at Synernet. I had an extremely bad experience with them. I wish I could give more details, but I am bound to keep quiet (it was an agreement made). I was not an MT. Just know that for me to have to be so hush hush should be a signal to anyone considering employment with them. :) ...

Trying To Stay Positive Looking For Job
Aug 22, 2014

I have graduated a year and a half ago from school, have my CPC-A and I am not having any luck finding a job.  I have applied to so many jobs and I get the same answer all the time of needing at least 2 to 3 years of experience.  While I am trying to be patient, I feel my skills are being lost.  You HAVE to be able to code every day in order for guidelines to cement in your brain and to become aware of changes.  I do practice by doing the Optum Code This! scenarios, (which I ...

Trying To Stay Positive
Jun 08, 2015

Here it is the beginning of the work week.  Oh how I wish I would have won the lottery. I wish I could have a Monday that was not all crappy dictators.  It seems like the week takes forever and my 2 days go by so fast.  I remember when I actually enjoyed, maybe even loved my job.  Need to be positive and push for those lines.  Getting up and knowing that you have MOT from now until ?  doesn't help.  Trying not to believe that the new hires got prime hour ...

Has Anyone Ever Been Fired For Demanding To Stay...
Nov 12, 2009

on a certain account or platform they are accustomed to?  In every company I have worked for, it seems like once I say I will help out on an account that is behind (usually because it is an awful account to do), I end up assigned to it...or I end up on the account that is changing platforms, taking a pay cut, and is total chaos. It seems so easy for everyone to give that speech, "just give it a try and things will get better," yet when I say it is not working out for me, ...

I Think I'll Stay In Transcription For A Bit Longer
May 03, 2010

I seriously considered bagging transcription.  But as my child comes in and gives me hugs and my teenage daughter asks what I think of something, I am glad I am available even though the money is not happening. ...

Why People Stay In This Business
Sep 06, 2010

I think you all are afraid of entering the real world.  You put up with the abuse of pay cuts and the constant blows to dignity because you are afraid to leave your four walls.  I've been there.  Its not bad, its a little scary, but i'm making it.  MT'ing is a dead end.  i knew this years ago, but I was making too much money and was too comfortable to do anything about it.  Not to mention I developed one of the worst cases Social Anxiety. ...

BEWARE Probity-Stay Away From
