SoftScript and MedTech - Old MT

Does anyone here have any info on what it's like to work for these two companies? Thanks for any feedback. :)

I'm not sure that I have EVER heard good reviews for SoftScript. They have EXTENSIVE account specifics, very particular, and you get counted off for QA for missing one, just as much as if you would have completely messed up a medication list. ALSO, you get dinged over and over from QA for the same account specifics error within a report.

If you feel that you are an "over-achiever" and specs are a piece of cake for you, it's harder than you think. The lack of organization there causes you to have MULTIPLE accounts, I'm talking up to 10 accounts, just to somewhat keep your work flowing and you are looking at around 40 pages of completely different account specs.

I got fired from SS for account specific errors.

The other company, I know nothing about.

I think the proper name for that other company is MedTech Systems. Can't seem to find much info on it anywhere.

The Good: The people are decent, pay is direct deposit and generally on time, pay about the same as anywhere. My PM (LB) is a good person.

The Bad: Not enough work. I run out of work practically every day on my 2 accounts. So they will set me up on other accounts to give me work but by the time I learn the AS, the work day is over! Somebody there needs to step back and stop overhiring.

with a few changes from each one (actually not that hard for me to keep in order). The difference accounts was what got me. Too many account to have to type on to try to make a living there. You cannot make money if there is no work. You have to email someone every day when you are out of work so they can add another account to your list of many. You never have the opportunity to get comfortable with your primary or secondary account because there isn't enough work to do that. The key to making money in transcription is getting to know the people you are trascribing. At SoftScript, this is an impossibility. Other than that, I thought everything else was good. If you don't make your hours, you don't get your benefits. In order to make your hours, you are going to have to make up the time you missed due to lack of work, i.e., your days off as you have to have permission to make up your time and since there isn't enough work, they don't allow you to do that on your scheduled days as you would be taking work from other transcriptionists.

Account specifics are horrid and they give you no flexibility on learning them. You spend more of your shift looking at specs than typing, when they continuously add accounts to you, instead of hiring an appropriate amount of MTs for each account.

They have a lack of respect or concern for their MTs. I had ONE reports from an account in which the account spec said you CANNOT type the word "patient" and if a doctor dictated patient, you were to put in Mr. Smith or Mr. Jones or whatever. Well, oops, I missed this. So, I had the word "patient" in the report 23 times and guess what, I got dinged 23 times for that mistake, dropping my QA score to a ridiculously low score. I have never in my transcribing history had a low QA score like that. Management didn't have the least bit of understanding regarding this. I was told I was being pulled from the account, due to such absentmindedness on my part. It was quite bad. I find it utterly ridiculous that they even allow an account spec such as that. If the facility doesn't want a word in the report, then the DOCTOR should be told to dictate without the word, we are SUPPOSED to type what we hear, not fix the doctor's mistakes, they aren't God!

Another thing is they require shifts, so if you work Tuesday through Saturday and you can't get your lines in on those days (you typically cannot), then you have to work Sunday and Monday to make up your lines when it is THEIR fault that the work wasn't available.

SS sounds like the place I'm working for now. They just cut my work way down because of a little format error, and they didn't even provide me with all the specs for this account in the first place because they're so disorganized. I've been a loyal worker for them for over 10 years, cover every weekend without a complaint, but I think they enjoy being bullies and cruel. My health hasn't been good anyway, but this is really killing me.

NO!!! Whenever you come up for yearly review, there is always some excuse, line counts, QA etc., as to why you are not eligible for raise.

I worked for SS from March 18th through May 3rd and got the boot due to not reaching 98% quality. Of course, for that 6 weeks of work I did not even receive work that would total 1 week with former companies. They were always out of work. There is one MT who works for them that is on 15 accounts on 5 different platforms, so that means 15 different Account Specifics also. They nickpick reports to death and no 2 editors agree, but of course, I am always the one that was wrong. I worked 13 years for my last company with 100% quality almost the whole time and now SS is saying my quality is no good. Think twice before hiring on with this company. I, too, thought it was going to be a good company and found out real quick how much they lied to me. They promised I would be buried in work and had very little work. When you go from being paid well to 150 dollars a week that should tell you they do not have the work to keep you busy and pay your bills. I was supposed to have my check deposited on May 3 and here it is May 6 and still no deposit. I just hope you will take into consideration what I have said and really think hard before working for them. Good luck in your choices in the future.

I have noticed a significant decline in my line count with Softscript ever since their blooper that happened on MT week. I dont really understand how that has affected my line count so much but I used to type 23 jobs and get about 1000 lines. Now I type 23 jobs on the same accounts and get 700 lines. Something is wrong with this picture. I am looking for another job, I just feel like I'm wasting my time. ...

I tried applying for that job once, but they said that they wanted "recent" experience and the last time I did pathology was in 2001. And yet, they keep advertising for that position. I've not been working for SS very long and have been doing QA for them. I was wondering if anyone who reads this board is a QA, or has been a QA, for SS and, if so, do they audit you? How strict are the audits? What happens if you don't make the score? I have a friend who used to work for SS a couple years ago and she said that she quit because the audits were "nitpicky." Have over 10 years experience, have applied twice, have left my shift to work open. Have nothing against me, great references. Their email address they provide on their website when submitting emails to returns stating not a working email/no longer exists...Not one reply back. Do not answer their phones. No response to application. Yet, every week, they post begging for people. IMO, companies like this, aren't worth 2 cents. If the people they hire ...

How many mentors and Q coordinators can they really need?
