SoftScript... - what is wrong with this picture

I interviewed and recruiter says they are hiring some 68 transcriptionists. I asked was this for a new account. She says, no for one of their old accounts. What would you be hiring 68 transcriptionists for an old account unless you fired all the new ones, or is it just me thinking that way.

"New account" could mean obtaining ALL of the transcription work from a client or just part of it, i.e. MTSO provides supplemental MTs to catch the overflow work from the in-house MTs when the workload is high.

"Old account" could mean a client who had hired the MTSO originally to provide supplemental MTs, but now is getting all the work from that client because that client finally outsourced its entire MT department to that MTSO, so now the MTSO needs more MTs for that old account.

Just because an MT is working for an MTSO, doesn't mean that ALL of that client's work is going to the MTSO. This would also explain why MTSO MTs sometimes run out of work for that client. When workload is low, the in-house MTs get priority and what work is there belongs to them, not the MTSO MTs.

I'm speaking from first-hand experience. I've been on both sides of this fence.

There was plenty of work for the last few weeks, then yesterday there was the usual "no work--check back during your shift." SS has a lot of trouble retaining MTs, especially the new hires who realize after a month of two that they can't make a decent wage when there is no work. Then SS has to hire yet again and the whole cycle starts over again. They should have a core group of MTs who make enough money to stay put and then pick up the slack with part-time MTs. This is a company that really should look into flex time for their MTs since there is either a lot or work or no work.

Everyone complains about the sound with SS. Is it any better - PAMT

I know very little about the company. But a couple of years ago when I was working in Admin. Office of a small hospital, the hospital was looking for cheaper transcription. They had a guy come by from this company, and he knew nothing about medical transcription. Having been a transcriptionist in the past and still doing transcription on a part time basis, I realized that very quickly.

How long after end of pay period does Softscript usually pay? I'm fairly new and trying to adjust! It's the 8th and end of November pay hasn't posted yet - is it just me since I'm new? I have noticed a significant decline in my line count with Softscript ever since their blooper that happened on MT week. I dont really understand how that has affected my line count so much but I used to type 23 jobs and get about 1000 lines. Now I type 23 jobs on the same accounts and get 700 lines. Something is wrong with this picture. I am looking for another job, I just feel like I'm wasting my time. ...

I noticed that every now and then that SoftScript advertises on the MT Job board for a pathology transcriptionist. I tried applying for that job once, but they said that they wanted "recent" experience and the last time I did pathology was in 2001. And yet, they keep advertising for that position. I've not been working for SS very long and have been doing QA for them. I was wondering if anyone who reads this board is a QA, or has been a QA, for SS and, if so, do they audit you? How strict are the audits? What happens if you don't make the score? I have a friend who used to work for SS a couple years ago and she said that she quit because the audits were "nitpicky." I'm just wondering if I need to be concerned about that at all. TIA for the info. ...

Have over 10 years experience, have applied twice, have left my shift to work open. Have nothing against me, great references. Their email address they provide on their website when submitting emails to returns stating not a working email/no longer exists...Not one reply back. Do not answer their phones. SoftScript has bait and switch listings up again. Please take a minute and read over recent posts regarding SoftScript's techniques to employ MTs. Sounds very possible that SS will go the way of TRS and MDI. The posts below sound eerily similar to the TRS and MDI sagas. If I were a betting man, I’d wager that, like TRS and MDI, the company will fail/sell out and be absorbed by a bigger one. What does anybody know about a company called Softscript and what do they think -- I think Medical Transcriptionists are being ripped off. I have worked for 3 major transcription companies; and have watched my income steadily decline. I've been doing this work for 23 years and wish I knew how to do something else.
